As the highest rated pest control business in the city, I had high expectations for their service…read morebased on their online reputation. Over the series of experiences I've had, it was strangely somewhere in the middle. The positive side was that they were incredibly responsive. The customer service is on point and the attitude of their management is definitely a class act. I have no doubt this is a major driver for their most positive reviews and deservedly so. The part where I struggle is the mixed experiences from the various technicians that had come to one of my properties that had an ant, cockroach, and spider problem. The initial $160 was a bit higher than I expected, but a small price that I was willing to pay to rid the property of creepy crawlers. Jason and Servando (sp) extremely brief in their initial run of the place. Even after their treatment, I still saw plenty of spider action where it was clear were not that thorough. After explaining my situation to their staff, they assigned the manager at the time, Daniel, to come back and apply treatment the way he intended. He went nuclear with a whole host of sprays and was extremely thorough both inside and out. His work made a world of difference and there was very little bug activity for close to a year. He was thorough in his explanaition and super transparent with his approach. If every experience was this thorough I think I'd be more receptive to future service. He has unfortunately left the company. Typically they recommend treatment 3 to 4 months. The subsequent visits after my initial concerns were not charged, which I'm thankful for but should not have taken that many times just to get the desired result. It was close to $250 for carpet ant treatment, which felt out of my budget but was assured that the chemicals would be different than the standard ones used for treatment. I was presented with a 30 and 60-day warranty which is fine but not something I elected to go for this past time around. While I'm sure they've done stellar work for other households and other properties, I do wish that I was able to experience the same magic on a consistent basis.

So, it turns out that Urban Jungle is based in Houston but has staff throughout Texas, Louisiana,…read moreand Oklahoma. Tuesday morning, we heard a lot of noise in our house in Austin and after some quick looking around, we found the source of the noise -- a squirrel who'd gotten into our chimney and landed -- alive -- in our fireplace. Because of a fireplace screen, he wasn't going anywhere, but we needed him out. After calling a lot of people who couldn't come out that day or who wanted to create a long involved process of sending an "inspector" out, then sending someone out a few days later, I happened to find Urban Jungle while doing a Google search. We called them and they had someone out within an hour. When Will showed up, he came prepared with several kinds of traps because he said squirrels were especially sensitive to being picked up. Amazingly enough, once Will started trying to trap the squirrel, the squirrel ran right back up and out of the chimney. However, the next day, Will came back to seal off entry to the chimney. When it was all said and done, we paid a very reasonable price and Will did good work. Another benefit of Urban Jungle is that their staff all have degrees in wildlife biology or related fields. The additional education makes an obvious difference in both their knowledge and their professional demeanor, which was miles above the usual trapper or exterminator. Trust me, these are the ones you want to call if/when you have an animal in the house.

We had a mouse problem and requested service through Yelp. Several vendors reached out to us, but…read morewe went with Ruben. Key Take Aways - Fair Price He gave us an estimate based on the info I gave him on my home via text. After he came out and saw the size and scope of my home and garage, he increased the estimate slightly, but not by much. Based on the other estimates I got and the research I did, what he charged was fair. He also provided a one year warranty. - Work Product He secured all the potential points of entry. He put down traps and we caught a couple of field mice. He did mention that he left an opening behind the kitchen sink in case there were still mice in the walls to give them an exit route, but he left traps under the kitchen sink. Service/Warranty A few weeks later, I spotted a mouse inside the house (not under the kitchen sink). We called Ruben and he was very responsive. He came back out and laid some more traps and we caught the mouse (Ruben thinks it was a mouse that just got in, probably from leaving the back door open). After that, we were out of town for about a week and we returned, and found a dead mouse caught in Ruben's trap under the kitchen sink (remember, he left some openings so that any mice in the walls could get out). Ruben came out again and used some foam to close the remaining openings. He also recommended a spray to take out the smell of pheromones which might be attracting new mice (e.g. through the back door). I can say as of now, it appears the mouse problem has been eradicated. - Knowledge of Craft/Professionalism I have had so many questions about what a mouse can and cannot do. Ruben patiently answers all of my questions which has helped me navigate a very difficult situation. Ruben is the epitome of professionalism. He knows his craft and he executes his process flawlessly. He is customer focused and is very responsive and respectful. He did not use those scare tactics used by other companies (e.g "mice are responsible for this % of house fires, etc.) to scare me into action. I highly recommend that if you have a rodent problem, don't ignore it and call Ruben. You won't be disappointed and you won't be ripped off.

**Five stars. I can't recommend Bug State highly enough!**…read more Another "highly regarded" termite company inspected my home and told me I had a termite infestation in some beams on the exterior walls. Their recommendation was to tent the entire house, which would have been very expensive and a major disruption to our lives. Before committing, I read some reviews online and called Bug State for a second opinion. Ken came out, did a preliminary inspection, and wasn't convinced we had termites. Rather than guess, he recommended removing some of the exterior wall panels to see what was really going on. Once the panels were off, he came back and inspected again: no termites, just ants. What a relief. Ken is extremely knowledgeable and trustworthy. He took the time to find the actual answer instead of selling me an expensive treatment I didn't need. If another company is pressuring you into tenting, get a second opinion from Bug State first. Or better yet, call Bug State first the initial look.
