Upon arriving at Del Monte we were directed by the lineman crew where to park our aircraft. He was a cool guy that was also a pilot in training and had us whisk to the fbo in a golf cart. Upon checking in with the customer service rep, we were asked whether we need fuel or any other services from them. Our flight was just a quick hop form the bay area so no extra services were needed. The interior and exterior of Del Monte is pleasing to visiting pilots, reminiscent to an old Spanish mission. The kids absolutely loved the free ice cream that was available, and us parents love the free water to reprieve our thirsts. We had Uber pick us up right in front of Del Monte. Crew cars were not available but very understandable because we were in the town of Monterey for practically the whole day. Coming back from our quick getaway to Monterey, again we were greeted by Del Monte's beautiful lobby. I had to use their bathroom just before departure and I was very clean and tidy. Fellow aviators, I whole heartedly recommend Del Monte Aviation as your fbo of choice when visiting Monterey.

Currently, you exit the plane by stairs/ramp. There isn't a jet bridge, so know that you face the elements upon arrival. Exiting the airport is easy. There are only a total of 5 gates here, no air ramps so you enter the aircraft the old fashioned way. What works here? Lots of things...the rental car lot is 30 feet away, we were the only ones going through TSA, and everyone working here is on a chill time line. Also they have a "bar" that you order drinks, pay for water, chips all in one. I would give this airport 5 starts however...the hot dogs looked like they were rolling around for a while. Also where is the imitation cheese pump to throw on that err...hot dog? Also no charging stations unless I walk from gate 3 to 5, I'm tired to walk that 50 feet. :)

The gate agent would thank every single passenger during check in for flying with them, that was very nice and professional. The Embraer 175 was the usual 80 seater with a 2-2 configuration in the main cabin. There was a smooth take off and the beverage service was attentive. There were three snack choices in flight. We weren't able to get much of a refund with the hotel we booked, so kept the reservation and decided to purchase plane tickets. The tickets were expensive... Fine, that's to be expected since it was last minute and during the holidays. What we didn't expect was that we had to pay for the carry on suitcase AND the boarding pass. They charge $50 for each bag, whether it's carry on or checked, so we combined our stuff into 1 little suitcase. Had we known this was going happen, we could have packed a full size suitcase and checked it in. Or both of us just could have brought a backpack that fits under the seat. A paper boarding pass was $5 each. Have you ever heard of such a thing? The way around that is to download the app & get the pass that way. At least they didn't charge extra when selecting seats. Also, thankfully for both flights, the plane was on time leaving and landing... Which is literally the bare minimum they should do. For the flight back, I downloaded the app so we could have mobile tickets. I tried to add a carry on luggage, but the app wouldn't allow me to do so. At the airport, there was a huge line just to pay for carry on or checked bag with many windows closed, so it took forever to get through. Finally, they opened more windows and let certain folks go first depending on flight departure time. After that, we still needed to get through security. I truly wish I never had to experience this airline and will definitely not be using them ever again.

This is a new level of discrimination of people who are not willing to pay extra to have a normal seat. Even if she wanted to pay extra all the "special" seats were taken and when she got to her seat she realized that majority of the seats are empty?!? It's a pure tragedy that Alaska air now bought the Hawaiian. I cannot imagine how much worse it can get and how horrible it would be when they ruin one of the best airlines. I, for sure, will do everything I can to avoid traveling with Alaska air. Shameful and disgraceful.
