I was incredibly keen to try A2B Indian Restaurant after hearing numerous glowing reviews, including a stellar 4.8-star rating from 7.4k reviews and a passionate recommendation from my fiancé's South Indian friend claiming they have the best masala dosas in the state. Given the difficulty of getting a reservation at my current favorite, Semma, this was meant to be my new go-to. Unfortunately, my Saturday evening experience was an overall big letdown. We arrived to a packed restaurant, with the parking lot at capacity, which certainly spoke to A2B's popularity. The interior was spacious, offering plenty of booths and tables, yet it was still quite full. We were seated quickly after a short 5-minute wait. However, once we sat down, the waiting game began. There was an iPad on the table with the menu, but we couldn't place the order ourselves. After nearly 15 minutes had passed with no server approaching, we finally flagged someone down. When the waiter did arrive, they offered no introduction and simply asked for our order before taking the iPad and leaving. For drinks, the Masala Chai and a Mango Lassi (made with pulp, not fresh mangoes) were both good; no complaints there. We ordered the main event, two Mysore Masala Dosas with the potato masala on the side. The food came out alarmingly fast, within like three minutes, which immediately made me suspicious. How the food was presented was perhaps the most jarring part of the experience, the small separate dishes for the potato masala and the chutneys were placed directly on top of my dosa! That's not hygienic at all, and to have serving dishes underside directly contacting the food was a bad look and presentation. Beyond the questionable presentation, the quality of the dosa was deeply disappointing. It was soggy and not crispy whatsoever. The speed suggested it was possibly pre-made and sitting under a heat lamp. The only saving grace of the entire meal was the sambar, which was genuinely good, almost as good as my mom makes it. Given this experience, I completely lost interest in trying the Palak Paneer or Malai Kofta I had initially planned on. We finished with the Pista Kulfi for dessert, which was just okay, with a heavy taste of cardamom that you'll love only if you're a big fan of that spice. While we were there, another family in front of us complained to the manager about the service, but the manager looked like he didn't care since business is booming for the restaurant. Also, the chef does not know how to make a batura. I have complained about this before. What they serve for a bhatuta is just a puri that was rolled out bigger to look like a batura. Traditional batura is a bread made out of white flour and fermented with yeast. It has bubbles in it like bread. I wish they corrected this. read more

Even the Malyali friends with us loved the Sadya here. Everything was great especially loved the sambhar, beet root pachadi, erissery. Wow! This was an impressive place. Not your mother's Indian restaurant and not a typical Dosa takeout place. It has the casual glamour of an upscale NJ diner, with some folks dressed very informally, and other families wearing their best saris for family celebrations. The restaurant is large, with many booths, and the kitchen sends out very impressive platters of dosas every few minutes. We did takeout and were very happy. They originally estimated 15 minutes, but it ended up being 30 - but we didn't care because there was good people watching and the food ended up being delicious. We got: masala dosas and a paneer dosa. Definitely get the filling on the side if you're doing takeout. We also got a south Indian thali, which gets packaged for takeout in a most impressive box! We enjoyed all of the little tastes too. I wasn't that wild about this sambar, but my mom couldn't have enough of it! We also got a south Indian curry which I liked less than any of the things in the thali. We also got two mango lassis, which were good but nothing remarkable. Finally visited after ages. Loved it. We had the thali, the thatte idli, regular idli, Mysore masala dosa and filter coffee. Definitely the best idli on this side of the world. The rassam, chutneys were great. My first time having a soy dry sabzi which wasn't bad either. I've come to love the kuzambu. My family and I dined at this restaurant a week back. It was a treat. We got to the restaurant shortly after it opened for dinner. I didn't expect us to be the only diners but that's fine. You have to scan the QR code on the table to view the menu. The restaurant is spacious and has plenty of seating. We ordered punugulu for our appetizer and mango lassis for all. My dad ordered poori masala, my sister and I shared the Rava Onion Masala Dosai, my mom ordered the Mysore Masala dosai, and for my little nephew we ordered a soft plain masala dosai. Each of our dosai entrees were served with chutneys and sambhar. The sambhar was not spicy and the chutneys were good. All of the dishes we ordered were yummy. I would definitely dine here again to try other dosais. The mango lassi was delicious. This is my new favorite spot for dosais!! To avoid long wait times, best to come early and enjoy your food. This place can and should really be a 5/5 vs a 4/5 IMO. Here's why. Let's start with the good. Thatte Idly - Im not a big fan of idll but I loved this one. The iddli was soft and it almost melted in your mouth. The sambhar though stole the show. We think it was Karnataka sambhar vs the TN one. Chole bathure - tough to go wrong on this. The bathure was fluffy, crispy and delicious. The chole was great albeit a very small portion. Mysore dosa - we had him do it with ghee and make it crispy. Thought it was perfect. Thokku - it's my first time having this dish and I thought it was delicious as well. It was good standalone but id recommend mixing the gravy and having it. The gravy perfectly complimented the taste of the thokku. Now for the not so good. Medhu vada - my fav South Indian dish. Id give this one a 3. It wasn't as hot and crispy as it should be and the sambhar that came with it was meh. Service - we had 2 servers. One was great , but the other one not so much. The other guy was either new or struggled with the basics. After having the sambhar from the thatte idlli, we asked him to get the same one for the other dishes. He said no, that only comes with the thatte dish. We requested that we'll pay for it, but he still didn't seem keen. We asked for the potato vegetable(which we said we'll purchase), again denied so we were forced to order the Mysore masala dosa which coincidentally also came without the potato vegetable. I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at A2B with my husband, who suggested we try it out based on friend's recommendation. My favorite dish was the jackfruit curry that I ordered with dosa. Could have been five starts for the Food and its authenticity here. I went to lunch this restaurant today despite their prices went up at least by 30% in the past six months. But, generally the case with most restaurants. It's the new normal considering fast food prices went up by a lot.. I mean 85% Now, I had South Indian thali , i.e,. panner 65 looked good but lacked any flavor / taste and the appam gravy sweet milk was overly infused with cardamom and the koorma a bit too spicy. Overall the dish lacked any flavor. Mini tiffin was okay and the dosa being the best part in that combo. The price of all their offerings has shot up exponentially but the taste and flavor hasn't kept up. Portions are pretty average compared to other similar South Indian restaurants perhaps even smaller on the appetizers and snacks. $17 for an appam and $11.99 Vada Sambar is outrageous. We use to like this place but $90 bill for two and we didn't even eat a full meal seems ridiculous . Truthfully, I've been somewhat disappointed with the selection of Indian food around this area which is surprising given Parsippany has a fairly high Indian population. But A2B has been pretty consistent and is definitely one of the more authentic south Indian places around. They do have north Indian options as well but plenty of other spots offer those, so it's the South Indian where they have put most of their efforts in. First off, the food is all vegetarian which is not uncommon for Indian folk but could potentially turn away Americans - I'd encourage giving it a shot despite that especially if you're looking to try something new. Their ingredients are fresh and overall would consider this a relatively healthier option while still filling. Dosai and Uttapam are always my go-to comfort food items and what I'll usually recommend. In my opinion, they do a better job with the Masala Dosai than anything else. Most of the other Dosai they offer are just different varieties of that with added sauces/spices. If you're new to this type of food and can handle spice, just go with the standard Masala. The Onion & Chili Uttapam is pretty good too but is 2nd choice for me since I always feel I need to add salt to it in order to get more flavor out of it. I've also tried the Idli and Vada starters as well but they were a bit dried up and didn't look fresh, so I'd probably pass on those going forward. Service is fairly whatever, which again is common at Indian restaurants but if you aren't used to it, could seem a little off-putting. Overall, good choice for this area and worth a visit if you aren't willing to make the haul over to Edison to satisfy your authentic Indian craving. read more

I almost felt like I was in south India as the food tasted soo good. We were the first ones to reach the restaurant when they were just about to open it. Within 15-20 mins of opening, all the tables were occupied. Service was quick and the staff helped assist with what to eat. The food was delicious. The idli was to die for - it was so soft that it melted in the mouth, Appam was so light, and everything else as tasted on point. Also known as A2B, you'll find this restaurant in many places in the east coast. We luckily found seats during peak dinner time. Got different types of dosas, everything tasted well. If you ask an Indian they'll always tell you they need more chutney with such huge dosas! The server made faces when we asked for more, we were 6 people and ordered more than 8 dishes, they were still hesitant to give us a few extra chutneys, it's annoying! I mean just charge more. Have been coming here about 1x / month for a while. Service is usually transactional but the food is good. Thursday night we got here at about 8:30pm. The greeter offered us a table next to a family with 2 screaming kids, a mess on the floor , not much room given the stroller. I asked if we can sit somewhere else , he took us to the back room and said 'all the tables here are for more than two - you have to wait'. I probed - it's mostly empty here so you really expect to get full given it's 8:30? He said 'sit where I told you or wait'. Could have said the same thing 5 better ways, that were less disrespectful. The ongoing pandemic has definitely taken a toll on a lot of businesses and public places since a consumer's mindset to buy anything outside of essentials or to visit a public place like a park or beach, has crippled down significantly. Now by living with what has become the new normal, it is commendable on how these businesses and public places continue to remain open and cater to the general public by following the safety standards. It is now all the more important that we as customers, support these heroes during these dark hours to mankind. We had stopped by this place to get some sweets and savories like Mysorepak, Kaju katli, thattai, badam halwa, mixture and some more items. The mysorepak was consumed in just two days from the day of purchase and was spoilt a bit. Since the item was taken to NC by our friend, we couldn't bring it to the shop to prove it was spoilt. We called the shop and the person Shanmugam at front desk asked us to come back for a replacement. We stopped by A2B again when we were meeting a friend at Parsipanny and Mr.Shanmugam was kind enough to offer a similar replacement when mysorepak was not available. The restaurant was a sorry sight with almost 0 customers both the times. For people who know A2B back in India, know how busy it can get and for someone to not even find a seat to sit. We stopped for dinner at this restaurant while driving through Parsippany. We ordered South Indian Thali and Filter coffee. Thali had Steamed Rice, Sambar, Rasam, Kootu, Poriyal, Kaara Kozhambhu, Yoghurt, Appalam, Chapati, Kurma, Pickle & Sweet -Gulab Jamun. All the curries,dals,rasam were definitely authentic South Indian food and tasted great. Coffee was good too. It was reasonably priced at 15$ but when my husband decided to ask for an extra chapati we were charged extra 2.50$ for a skimpy little chapati(we were surprised to see that in the bill as the server didn't inform about the extra charge) Despite this little issue we enjoyed the food and would recommend this restaurant and would come back we happen to be in the area. Well, I tried almost all the desi restaurant in Parsippany and I can easily say, A2B ( Adyar Ananda Bhavan A2B) offers best south Indian food by miles. They were cleaning the table as well as chairs too. Good stuff. We got the table outside. It has glass ceiling. It was nice to get the table window side. We ordered my favorite Mysore Masala Dosa and Mini thali. Mini thali has a small portion of every signature dish. Medu Vada, Idli, Pongal, Upma, Paper dosa with Sambhar and Coconut chutney. My Mysore dosa was also not behind per expectations except I thought it to be a bit crispy. It comes with three chutney ( Tomato- Peanut-coconut).everything was sumptuous, chutneys too. This places never fails to dissapoint me - Great South Indian food. I went there for brunch and needless to say, A2B has never failed to make me happy and content. This location is quiet big and unlike other Indian joints very clean and beautifully decorated ! We were promptly seated and their service was fast & quick.. Though sometimes the staff kept checking too often. Their ghee roast, Mysore masala dosa, medu vada and mini tiffin is a must-try with all the 3 chutneys. We also ordered couple of other dishes and their filter coffee ! Everything was perfect in taste . I havn't tried their curries or North Indian dishes coz I would like to stick to what they specialize in ! Prices are reasonable and definitely you cannot go wrong with this food.
