I found Alfred Williams plumbing on Angie's list. I called many other plumbers first to have them come out to clear a blocked drain in my tenants home. Other highly rated plumber charged between $!25 and $175 just to come out. Another charged a $250 flat rate for drain clearing. None could come within a 2 day window. Then I found Alfred Williams! They charge no base fee to come out. In addition, they could come out that day. It turned out that the tenant simply did not know how to disengage the bathtub drain, and there was no blockage at all. Steve was very pleasant about the whole thing, and we agreed on a very nominal fee for his coming out. I just encountered another plumbing problem. A year or so ago I put together a list of recommended service providers, for example plumbers, so that when an urgent plumbing event happened I would already have the best person to call based on the experiences of others. I obtained the information from Bay Area Checkbook, Yelp, BBB, State Contractor's Lic Board, etc. Alfred Williams Plumbing was on my list. So after discovering a toilet leak at floor level, I called them for help. Steve came out, removed the toilet, installed a new wax seal and reset the toilet in a very short span of time. I called Alfred Williams Plumbing today to fix a leaky toilet, got an answer service but Steve called back within 15-20 minutes. I called at noon and he was able to come a few hours later on the same day and not only fixed the leaky toilet but replaced the parts of the others in my house at my request. He charged very reasonable rates, more so than the last plumber I used. I will be calling him in the future if I ever need a plumber. Highly recommend! read more

Called Alfred Williams plumbing for a plugged drain, left a message with an answering service, and within 5 minutes Steve (owner and sole employee) called me back. Steve gave me a one hour window when he could come later that day, but said he would come earlier if he could. He called one our before our scheduled time, asking if it was OK to come immediately. I said yes, and in 5 minutes Steve arrived. After I explained what I had tried, Steve checked out the situation, climbed up the roof and power snaked the drain vent. Problem solved in 45 minutes start to finish! And he gave me a great referral to Nelson plumbing for a copper repipe, a service he doesn't provide. Our very old water heater started a slow leak and so we called multiple firms to get an estimate on the water heater. We also checked on checkbook, Angie's list, yelp, etc. for references and Alfred Williams (though the plumber goes by Steve) was the plumber we chose to replace our water heater. He has an answering service which is really nice as you talk to a real person who relays your message to him and he typically calls back in 5-20 minutes. He gave us a quote that was competitive with the other over the phone quotes. I had done research in the past on water heaters and what parts are and are not neeed as I knew we would eventually need our unit replaced and his recommendations confirmed what I had already read. He also did not try to sell us any unneeded extras. He came within a day since our repair was not urgent and spent about four hours hooking up the new water heater (our plumbing is from the 50's so several of the pipes were a bit hard to work with). He was professional, knowledgeable, and has years of plumbing experience. We were very pleased with the installation and have not had any issues since it was installed. The positive reviews are accurate: he is prompt, calm, hard working, honest, uncomplaining (given that some of the work has been hot, muddy and uncomfortable). I had another plumber come out over my sink faucet that was leaking - he changed the washer out - wow I had already done that and charged me $96 dollars - Steve came out - took a look, told me what I needed and rescheduled a couple days later because I needed a new faucet - he suggested brand names and where to buy. With the Holidays coming up I knew time was not on my side so buying what I need and having it in stock were going to limit my chances. Steve had given me his cell number and we talked a couple times when I was at Lowes. With his expert advice on what to look for everything was worked out but the best part is I felt I had found a plumber who knew what he was talking about, willing to be a partner in my leaking faucet issues and solve the problems. He came back the next day, having already given me a rough idea what I was up for price wise and coming in around that amount my problems are now all solved! I didn't find him on Yelp - but in reading the reviews I can see having a new one can only help him and sing his praises. But like someone else said earlier I kind of want to keep him a secret because he is worth his weight in gold. This is how its supposed to go. I called and the phone was immediately answered. The "receptionist" took some basic information and said I would get a call from the plumber in 15 minutes. In about 10 minutes I got a call back from Steve. He offered to arrive in 2 hours, but I had a conflicting appointment, so we scheduled for the next day. Upon returning from my appointment, I received a call from Steve asking if I wanted him come over. He said he moved up another appointment and knew I would be available later in the afternoon. He arrived within 15 minutes, fixed my problem within the hour, cleaned up after himself, collected his very reasonable fee and was on his way. The plumber who installed our tub made a mistake with the overflow drain so that water was coming down through the garage ceiling. We weren't sure what the problem was. Looked on Yelp for another plumber. Saw the good reviews for AW. He came out, located the problem right away (twisted foam gasket), and fixed it. 1 year later everything is well. Our under-sink cleanout in the kitchen broke (the part the plug screws into split in two) and we also had been hearing that "glug, glug, glug" when we dumped a pot of water down the kitchen sink. With the great reviews in Yelp and Checkbook.org, I called Alfred Williams Plumbing. Steve (aka Alfred) arrived just before our scheduled time, had a quick peek, and within minutes had used a $10 solution to solve what I thought would require repiping of my under-sink drainage system. I'm sure other plumbers would have spent 4 hours repiping my kitchen, but Steve used an expanding clean-out adapter and within minutes that problem was solved. He probably saved me $800 or more with that clever solution. He then got to work on our stubborn clog and even cleaned the sink cabinet and floor to better than when he arrived. What you have with Alfred Williams Plumbing is someone you can trust to treat you fairly and solve the problem you have, not the one that will get him the most money.
