I am 70 year old and was diagnosed with herniated disc and spinal stenosis on L4/L5 after some heavy lifting work which triggered this episode about 10 months back. The orthopedic surgeon advised to try epidural injections first with PT. I tried 3 epidural injections, but not much relief. I got PT with Dave for 6 months and that's what kept me going for short walks, before I finally decided to go for minimally invasive laminectomy and facetectomy surgery by Dr Saqib Hasan in Nov last year and with God's blessings and Dr Hasan's expertise my pain was completely gone and was walking around the same day. Dave provided excellent pre-op therapy and has guided my post-op recovery with with great care. He is patient, highly knowledgeable, and always ensures I am moving safely to protect my spine. He listens to my concerns--and adjusts my treatment on the fly. I couldn't have asked for a better partner in my rehabilitation. Very bad experience. The care quality was extremely poor, and the overall process felt like a nightmare. The staff seemed unprofessional, the therapist appeared untrained or poorly prepared, and scheduling was very frustrating and disorganized. Be aware: David Turner is on probation with the Physical Therapy Board of California (easily verified in online public records). I wish I had known this before my recent visits. A few years ago my visits were great, and my recent ones felt attentive as well. Probation rules prevent him from supervising students, so the PT stays with you through the entire session, including all exercises. After several visits, I discovered the clinic was fraudulently charging my saved card for services I never received. Staff confirmed the charges were intentional, and I only received a refund after filing a formal complaint with the Board. If you were also billed for services you didn't receive, please consider filing a report online -- it's quick and helps protect other patients. read more

Hands down the best PT in all of Pleasanton! All the therapists are great and very personable. And the office staff (Jennifer) is absolutely awesome. I've worked with all the therapists, including Dave (owner), Francine, Andrew, Smita and Desiree. Each therapist has lots of experience and they all work to identify and fix whatever injury you have. I am recovering from knee surgery and lower back pain. Quite often they find pain related to where it hurts and they manipulate the muscles to relieve symptoms and underlying causes. I have been going to advanced physical therapy for over six years. When I started, there was just Dave and over the years he has grown to now having hired 4 additional therapist, and they are all great. No matter which one I I'm scheduled for on my visit I get great service and walk out of their feeling better than I did when I walked in the door. I will start by saying David and the whole team at Advanced Physical Therapy and Ergonomics are awesome when it comes to physical therapy. However, I have a major issue with their billing practices and being over charged. Be warned that just because your insurance is accepted, you will get billed for services using CPT codes that most insurances do not accept. This means you will end up paying a lot more out of pocket AFTER your co-pays, and you will not even know the amount until you have already gotten your services. I believe the reason this is done is because David and team are unhappy with the negotiated rates with insurance companies, so this is a way to make up the difference. I ended up paying over $300 beyond my insurance co-pays due to this - if this fee was disclosed prior to services, I wouldn't have minded. It is not that difficult to check with insurance companies ahead of time on what will be covered or not, and how much the patient will have to pay. I understand the need for being compensated a fair amount, but I find this practice shady and egregious. read more

This is the best physical therapy place I have ever been to and even better, it really feels like a family. I initially saw Dave and Calvin for an old lacrosse injury; I injured my knee nearly 8 years ago in 2016 and since then, I always felt knee instability and pain. From the moment Dave and Calvin started bodywork on my knee, I knew they were different than other therapists I had been to before. They not only look at the symptom or localized injury, but assess your injury holistically. Eg, knee pain may also be caused my hip weakness, etc. Dave and Calvin really care about their patients and they have improved the quality of my life. This place also functions great due to the hard work of Liza, who goes above and beyond to coordinate the scheduling and reach out to patients. She is so thorough and caring. Could not reach anyone by phone at first. They prefer texting. I do not. I shared this with them. After a very long time until my first appointment. They sent a text to remind me. Day of they called 50 minutes after tje appointment passed. I asked why they did not call at 4:15 she said "Yah, we are really busy and will charge you for a missed appointment" and then tried to reschedule me. I said no and that I will not be using their services. Another down side is while I have insurance they made me make a 50 dolloar deposit which is 35 dollars over my copay. This means it would take me a lityle over three visits to get my money even. That is not cool and I wish I did not agree to this. read more

I am currently very saddended about my experience with receptionist Eliza in this office. she is the receptionist I spoke with who did telephone intake and scheduling. I was highly referred to Dave by my internal medicine Dr. Eliza the receptionist told me it cost $50.00 to make an appointment with this company before being seen. I had never heard of a company charging patients to make an appointment before they have even been seen but maybe because it is a private business they are able to do that. In the meanwhile, I gave her my Auto insurance information and she said she had never heard of the insurance company. I was told to get authorization to get services and call back. After speaking to my insurance company immediately after hanging up with her (USAA) they said we send Advance Physical therapy in Pleasanton, payments all of the time and they know how we work. I do not understand them because they know There is no authorization and we send them payments for patients. The insurance adjuster was very concerned about this so-called Eliza while I was on hold. After he, spoke with her directly he said she just needed a few items. I am faxing everything to her right now as we speak and I was able to confirm he did so immediately by calling back to the office. I was very excited that the issues were over and I could get the help I needed. I called them because I wanted to make sure my appointment was now secure since she told me it was only tentative and it was booked far out. She then informed me there were other problems. She said that she asked my insurance company if I was taken away from the scene of my accident in an ambulance and that she asked USAA how much my coverage for medical was. She said there might not be money left after paying an ambulance their fee and they might get paid before other vendors with claims even though my insurance company has not paid out any claims yet. She made an assumption without asking that I could not pay for my service in this event, and that APT would not get their money she kept saying. This was all shocking to me considering I was assured she spoke to them and had everything she needed which is what she told the insurance company. She said it was too late to call them back for more information and it was only 4:00. They are available until 6:00 p.m. I was appalled, shocked, and saddened as I am in need of help and she continued to create hoops for me to jump to. I became emotional and she could tell by my voice it was upsetting to me. I feel there was really no intent to treat me. Also, the information she asked for my insurance to reveal I felt violated HIPPA laws and I am unable to reach Dave the owner (which is the person Mr. Dr. highly referred me to) because he is currently out of the country. I want to get clarification from him on if this is the way they truly operate because I was so surprised. Also to just assume I could not pay for services on my own in the end was devastating and hurtful. My Dr. spoke extremely highly about Dave and this business but what I have gone through today was nowhere near what I expected because my personal Dr. is a bit picky about who she refers to. I am very sad about this experience and I believe based on her behavior, there was really no interest in helping me from the start, so all of the work I went through to contact my insurance, have them take the time to call her directly while I was on hold and for them to, fax her everything she said she needed and even answer her invasive personal questions was devastating and personal to me. I want to be treated like a person and not a money bag at a very vulnerable time. read more

As previously stated in my review for MORE PT in San Jose, I am an expert in injuries and the art of PT. MORE was the pinnacle of PT rehab centers in terms of combining strength training with flexibility and direct manipulation. Dave takes that to a whole new level. He spends the required time (which almost nobody does) to fully manipulate the injured joint. He has a holistic approach, excellent communication skills, and does not provide a fluff treatment. This is the place to go if you want to get better quickly and work at it. The type of attention he provides is normally reserved for pro athletes IMHO. This practice makes other places I have been like Neurosport which was formally in Clubsport feel like a waste of time. Very glad I found him via Yelp! read more

Dave is an amazing Physical Therapist. He has solved numerous of my knee and back/spine problems. He will listen to you and answer any and all of your questions patiently to your satisfaction. He will spend a lot of time personally helping you as much as needed. Every time you leave his office, you leave satisfied and feeling better with pain than you entered the office an hour or two ago. The best thing Dave did for me, before even I went into my spine surgery was to motivate me to loose over 20lbs before surgery. And he enlightened and motivated me so well, that I did loose 22lbs before surgery within 2 months with just diet. These guys are different. Most physical therapists give you some exercises to do and send you home. At APT the therapists, Dave and Calvin, do serious massage to break up scar tissue, followed by exercise. The massage is key to recovery. Over the years, I've had physical therapy several times with modest results. This time, recovery is faster and better, clearly due to the deep massage breakup of scar tissue. I must say this is the best physical therapy place I have ever been to. I had an ACL surgery and meniscus repair 2.5 months ago and after being screwed over by Kaiser Permanente physical therapy department had to undergo manipulation and scope to remove scar tissue. After my second procedure I decided to come to advanced physical therapy to work on my recovery and each session was the most professional I have ever experienced and in just two sessions I have made a good progress and the pain was reduced significantly. I would recommend advanced physical therapy to anybody whose goal is to make a quick a consistent recovery. Will definitely come back read more

David knows what he is doing. He's not easy on your sore spot but no pain, no gain. Working out the kinks can be very painful - he find tight sore spots that I didn't even know was in need of relaxing until he worked it out. I find relief afterwards and find myself continuing to return. Can't argue with the results. read more

Possibly the BEST physical therapist on our planet? I am a 42yo physician who underwent ACL & meniscus repair several years ago following a ski injury. After a softball injury on the same knee, I underwent meniscectomy in Aug 2019. My same meniscus tore again in Jan 2020. I then saw 2 surgeons who both recommended a repeat meniscectomy. I needed another solution. My colleague (who has had diffuse musculoskeletal injuries, pain and multiple surgeries) referred me to Dave. Over the past 3 months, I've been treated in the clinic approx once a week. (A sanitized, pristine, anti-COVID zone as all the staff carry sprays/ wipes/ masks, and disinfect every machine/ table near every 5 minutes). This large clinic resembles a gym, with a plethora of equipment, devices, strengthening gadgets, balance boards, bands, power-balls and miracle tools. The staff are ahead of their field, performing manipulation techniques, myofascial release, deep tissue methods to improve blood/ oxygen/ lymphatic circulation, cupping (yes- just like the ones we see on Olympic athletes), Graston therapy, break down of scar tissue, heating, electrical stimulation, hypervolt, kinesio taping and patient education! MY RESULTS: stronger muscles around my knees, more stability, improved mobility, and I do NOT NEED surgery! I truly believe that if I had come to the clinic 1 year prior, I could have avoided my Aug 2019 knee surgery. I have also had chronic neck pain for over 15 years. Pain medications, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, CBD cream, heating, constant yoga, pain specialists, other physical therapists, chiropractors, deep tissue massage near every 2 weeks have been minimally effective. I've been going here for over a year now, Dr Dave is very good at identifying the root cause and giving you the right treatment. When I started, I had a frozen shoulder and it was so painful that I could not even take my wallet out of my back pocket. Within a few visits the immediate pain subsided. Until that time, I was mostly advised by other doctors that pain medication in necessary and surgery may be the only option. However, Dave was very clear and upfront that it may take a while but if I adjust the posture and exercise regularly, medicine may not be required. I am so glad that after about a year of sustained improvements with no medicines, I can say that it was the best advise. He also encouraged me to make active lifestyle choices which not only helped with the immediate issue but improved my overall health. I broke my humerus bone in my shoulder... My shoulder basically froze up after surgery... Not really sure where to start. As you can see Dave and his physical therapy crew are about as good as it gets from the other reviews. But I'll add my love to the clinic as well. I can be a difficult client and I went thru over half a dozen physical therapists before I found Dave. My mom happened to be going to him. I guess I missed the memo about asking for referrals from friends & family. One of my other physical therapists from some other nameless company didn't even do any manual stretching on me. He just had me do a couple exercises... He def didn't last... FIRED! LOL Another one saw me for about 15 minutes before she was off to her next client... She was one of those I am the therapist your the patient. Don't tell me anything cause I know everything just out of school... Fired Anyways; on to Dr Dave... Dave is amazing in every way. He listens to clients. He knows his clients. He knows what works... And he positively nudges people about the importance of daily exercise... My therapy sessions can last up to 2 hours! A lot of the other physical therapist companies don't do this because insurance won't pay... It's all about the money, not Dave & Advanced Physical Therapy and Ergonomics. We start out with some gentle warm up stuff. Then we do various solo stretches & strengthening exercises. Near the end after I'm all loose, He heats up the muscles and does some final stretching to really coax my muscle to get to their before injury state. Then he gets ya some ice and electrical stimulation to settle down the muscles from all that amazing torture. Of course each person & therapy is different.... But I absolutely love this physical therapy clinic. It's hard to find a Dr that actually knows his patients. Dave is one of a kind! I went to Dr.Dave for a shoulder and ankle injury in 2016 for a few months and then moved to Texas in the middle of my care. I wish to God I could have brought him with me. I have been to several places here and after two and a half years have just yesterday found someone that can potentially come close to the level of care he provided from his facility and equipment to his technique, knowledge and quite honestly magic. He had more improvement in my shoulder in the little time I went to him than anyone has had in years. Dave is an excellent physical therapist. I had a particulate lodged under my knee cap. I was unable to straighten my leg because the pain was so severe. After 2 therapy sessions with Dave, where he manipulated my knee joint, I was able to straighten my leg and walk without pain. In addition, he taught me how to work my knee joint to move the particulate out of a painful spot. I have been painfree and able to exercise and enjoy my regular lifestyle thanks to him. read more

Dave is awesome. I had history of chronic injury and suddenly it came back during my family vacation in Canada (2017 Aug) . I couldn't walk the stairs or walk probably at that time as I felt so pain. Anyway, long story short. I was lucky to find Dave as my PT. Apart from specific Healing exercises that I did each time followed by my favorite part....Dave gave different treatments every single time to make my knee stronger . I recalled that after 8 visits I was able to run on treadmill again without pain... can u imagine that I walked with a Stick with pain on my left knee in August and I was able to walk and run again in early October without pain and big smile on my face? Since then (already 1+ year from now) my knee feels good , no pain and of course part of the reasons is that I keep doing the same knee strengthening exercises he taught me at gym now. I am amazed this place even exists in Pleasanton. To give you some background, I have had FIVE knee surgeries and almost had to have an ankle surgery in the past...I'm 36 years old & played a lot of soccer. That said, I've been to my fair share of PT locations. Dave is phenomenal. He provides the hands-on massage & Graston technique at a level that is even higher than my expectations (which are super high). The fact that he is certified in Graston (look it up - NFL, MLS, MLB, NBA, etc are all using it) sets him apart from everyone else, yet he also helps to release surrounding tight muscles to ensure you're healing correctly. He takes the time to give one-on-one attention to his patients and tailors their recovery program to them. The more effort you put in, the more you will get out. He teaches you exercises to use and gives you some free reign to complete everything he subscribes during each session. On top of this, he and his staff have great personalities & they always greet you with a smile on their face. This place is a gem & I'm beyond grateful to have found it. read more

David Turner is a good physical therapist. I came in because I had a hamstring injury for more than two years, and I am surprised to say that the exercises he has given me have actually been working. I feel less tightness and am able to run. My first visit, he was using a metal stick against my pelvic area and it hurt like heck, but the pain went away. I found it disappointing that this guy kind of has a lack of respect for his patients. He is friendly, but most of the time I was seen by an aid who wasn't even working on my body. I went twice to this guy and spent around $170 dollars for two visits. He is way too overpriced. I am never coming back. He never wrote back to me on my emails and I even gave him my phone number, which he never even called to check up on me to see how I was doing. It's called patient customer service. If you are just gonna sit on your ass all day, then why have a business? The fact that I have had a hamstring injury for this long, this guy could care less. The amount of time he spends with you is almost complete shit and not worth it for the money. I can't believe I got suckered in by this company. I cannot say enough good things about Dave and his staff. I came here a month ago for a bunch of issues- wrist pain, bone bruise in my foot, and shoulder mobility issues. To give some background, I went to a therapist in Oakland based on some yelp reviews for my wrist, they had 4/5 stars. I went there for 5 sessions spanning over 2 months. After coming to Dave for ONE session, my wrist felt better immediately vs how it did over those last 2 months. Dave takes time to understand your issues, and how to progress and get back to normal. He gives exercises and then follows it with his methods of releasing the muscles and tendons, which are painful (in a good way) and HIGHLY beneficial. My old therapist did none of this. My wrist has felt much better since beginning my therapy with Dave, and I can't thank him and his staff enough. I've now begun treating my other ailments as well. Although it's not 100% yet, I know that we're definitely heading in the right direction based on the overall progression. I'd highly recommend. read more
