I visited advanced dermatology two days before a wedding because I was stressing about a best man speech. Being 30, I don't really get pimples but I felt one forming just under my nose and decided I needed immediate action. Jenn Wong treated me with a cortisone shot and literally the next day the pimple was gone! The whole process from check-in to the shot was painless and easy. Thanks Jenn! This was my first and last visit to this office. I felt completely rushed by Dr. Friedler like she wanted to run out of the room to the next patient. You would think that being that I was a new patient, the dr would want to check your body for moles, abnormalities, cancer - whatever, but no she didn't even ask to look. I did get the laser for cherry angiomas, 10 dots for $200 which took all of 4 mins and some grew back and scarred. And when you ask at the desk for prices of other services, they dont even know. Although the woman at the desk was nice, she did not know like 3 questions I asked her. But I was a little shocked when I heard the actual prices. So all in all, that particular dr rushed me, and is crazy expensive, I cant speak for the other Drs at that office. read more

For disorganized front desk, I would give them 5 stars! For arrogance and disrespect patients I would rate them 9! For service they would be getting nothing! I have no choice to pick one star, otherwise, I would not be able to enter my comments! They front desk put a list for patients to sign in... That signing list was just for display! 3 times that I took my boy for light therapy, they forgot to print a patient report and call my son in... Their excuse were " we were very busy" and "...the misses were not from the same person..." Could not agree more with others - Do not go here. Waited an hour and half, staff is not friendly & horrible bedside manner from Dr. Fox. Spoke to me in a condescending manner, felt rushed & he just quickly prescribed medication and left the room. Not much explanation of medication usage or clear on follow-ups. At the end of the appointment they asked when I would like to schedule my follow-up, I told them I will not be following up with them. Definitely going to a different doctor ! Made an appointment a month beforehand for after 6pm because I work like most normal people.. The appointment was for 7pm and I got there at 630pm. Went to the larger building and they told me I had to go next door because they didnt have an appointment for me they claimed. I walked next door, wrote down my name, and the receptionist comes out and crosses out my name and said the doctor already saw their last patient. "OK. So do you care elaborate because I definitely have an appointment.." She says your appointment is next door... I go next door, and mind you there are 3 receptionists at the desk not doing anything!!! One person makes a few phone calls, gets no answer. By the way, no one has answered me to tell me what the hell was going on. And finally she says the doctor did npt come in today and someone should have told me my appointment was cancelled... They confirmed my phone number and it was the correct one. So at this point, I am trying really hard to be understanding. This is my first time here , maybe it was just a fluke. Therefore I made another appointment and this was a mistake.. I got here at 7. Absolutely would not recommend. The office clearly books multiple patients for one time slot for one provider. If your appointment is scheduled for 11:30 and you arrive 15 minutes early, you won't be into a room until 12:30. Every time I've came here the provider has spent less than 3 minutes in total with me. Dr. Friedler? Did not listen to me about my condition, gaslight me about what I was going through and has discussed another patient's health information right in front of me with the resident. The office does not answer the phone and I had to BEG them to submit a prior authorization for a medicine for months. From July to November, I kept having to follow up with them to SUBMIT this request. I had to start coming to the office weekly just to ask for updates. And when they did submit the request, I was approved by my ins. immediately. The place is run down, dingy, poorly managed and overall cruel to their patients. As many before me have mentioned, wait times are ridiculous! I was seen by Dr. Friedlander for facial acne. I came twice however each time I arrived 10 mins early for my appt only to wait over 45 mins. I don't understand why. Other times I tried to call for a refill and no one ever answered or called back. I had an 11am appointment for a patch test.. I arrived at 10:45am and as of 11:45am wasn't even taken into an exam room.. there were so many patients in waiting room. One woman was checking how many appts before her , one man complaining he waited an hour today and doesn't want to do so on the next appt he was scheduling as follow up and an elderly lady with 11am has Access a Ride coming at 12.30pm- ( she walked in at 10:45am like myself) receptionist asked if she wants to reschedule!! She said no.. I walked up to desk, told her I am leaving and cancelled today's appt , Sunday and Monday... I like Dr. Erstein but I waited an hour to see him on Jan 13 and this test requires 3 appointments and I don't think I want to spend 3 hours of my time waiting for 10- 15 visits. read more

Dr. Jen Wong is very kind and an excellent dermatology professional. After my first microneedling session with a TCA peel, my acne scars reduced considerably, my skin texture and tone were more even. I was surprised how after 4 weeks of my first treatment, my skin regenerated so fast and how the changes were so visible. She was gentle and calming. She also prescribed me a skin care routine to treat my acne and I'm really happy with it. First time at the dermatologist office since um ever, I basically just wanted to make sure I didn't have any potentially serious issues like skin cancer. I walked out with so many prescriptions my head is spinning. I can't tell the difference between the cream for my face and the cream for my proverbial ass. Kidding... but in all seriousness the low rating kind of scared me when I checked in, but my primary care physician referred me so it's not like a chose this place on my own. I arrived early to fill out paperwork. I got a parking space right out front. The place is located at a corner house right on 188th Street. My appointment was at 5 PM but I was at the desk by 4:20 PM. I was a bit intimidated at first by the amount of people in the waiting room and I was expecting to wait a while but by the time I was called it had mostly cleared out. I didn't have any issues with the office staff. Everyone was friendly, and my appointment was in the system just as I had made it. The assistant asked me the reason for my visit and took the time to listen and make notes before the doctor arrived. Take note they will bill you for no shows and appointments cancelled in under 24 hours so don't make your appointment unless you are sure you can make it. I saw Dr. Freidler and she was pretty cool and we got right down to business. She did a full examination and noted any issues I had. She wrote a prescription and gave me some samples for Rosacea as well as some coupons for future prescriptions. She explained how to handle my skin conditions and what will improve them. She also told me things to avoid. She offered laser treatments and well and gave me a general price quote but did not pressure me. We spoke for about 10 minutes and then the assistant handled the rest such as explaining which medicines where for what and some of the creams they carried right there at the office. At one point two students walked in. I did specifically ask for a female doctor and one of the students was male and I wasn't asked in advanced if they could sit in. I actually preferred that they weren't there since it was my first visit and I was still trying to get comfortable with the place as well as the new doctor. They left as soon as I mentioned that but it would have been nice to be asked first. At one point there was four people in the exam room with me so it was a little overwhelming for my first visit. The doctor, two students, and the assistant too. She did apologize for the large entourage. They called my prescriptions right in to the CVS down the block and I headed over there right after the appointment to pick them up. I was already on my way to CVS by 5:15 PM so the whole process took a little less than an hour from start to finish which I feel is an appropriate amount of time for what was done. Do NOT make the mistake of going here if you have any sort of issues, especially an emergency. I went to get a couple of cysts checked out. I got there earlier than my appointment. They took my copay right away but I had to wait so long. I agree with the others who said that everyone brings their entire family- I don't understand why. Dr. Freidler (spelling?) was awful. She yelled and threw a gown at me and told me to put it on, so I had to strip down. She saw me for maybe ten seconds, scratched my arm (painfully) and was just rude. She looked at the cysts I had and said they were fine. That is all. Two years later, my cyst becomes inflamed and I'm in pain. I call in to make an emergency appointment. The receptionist- beyond rude. I said hi, how are you? And she responded Mmhmm. Cut me off while I was speaking, didn't have anything available for AN EMERGENCY. And didn't even apologize or say feel better. She literally had no sympathy. She was like well you can come in next week, ok? Somebody PLEASE teach these people how to behave with patients and some manners.. I didn't thank her and I'm never going back here. Save yourself the trouble and go see someone else. read more

This is a review for Dr Jason Appelbaum, I've seen Dr. Appelbaum on several occasions, including a minor surgery where I had to get something removed surgically and I've never had any issues with him. He has great bedside manner, explains everything thoroughly and never patronizes you or makes you feel stupid for asking what might be considered stupid questions. The only issues I have with this place are the excruciating wait times, for both an appointment and when you are physically there waiting to see the doctor. Like most people, I have a job and cannot see the doctor unless its on the weekends. For a weekend appointment, you basically have to wait a whole month or more... my skin can be rotting off by that time if it was a serious issue! And when the day comes and your long awaited appointment is here, there is still at least an hour to two hour wait in the waiting room. Also, WHY do people insist on bringing their whole damn family to goto the dermatologist??? Unfortunately I've tried other doctors, some in Midtown where I work and can get to easily on the weekdays, but none of them are as professional as Dr. Appelbaum, so unless I have a serious condition that can't wait a month, I will continue seeing Dr. Appelbaum. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, it would seem more appropriate. The nightmare at Advanced Dermatology came first in the form of waiting. I was one of the first patients scheduled for an 8:15 a.m. appointment and was not seen until after 9 a.m. The nightmare does not stop there. As a young twenty-something, I see unethical business practices targeting my age group far too often. I came into the office with the hopes of a solution to my acne, which has been plaguing me for quite a few months. By chance, I asked my doctor, Jason Appelbaum, to remove a growth on my face, to which he eagerly responded, "sure." The entire procedure took roughly 2 minutes and he reassured me that this growth was completely normal and simply something caused by too much sun exposure. Within the next couples of weeks I received a bill in the mail with charges for a "biopsy" and this is where the trouble began. I did my best to inform the people working the phones that I was absolutely unaware a biopsy was performed and was not informed that this procedure was going to cost me an arm and a leg. Make no mistake, Dr. Appaulbaum did not tell me this 2 minute procedure was going to cost me anything, nor was I informed that this tiny little dot on the side of my nose was going to be sent in for a biopsy. After all, doctors send growths to the lab when they are concerned about it. In Appaulbaum's case, it was to pocket the money. Had I known I would inquire costs for this, I would have surely rejected to have it removed. To add insult to injury, the woman answering the phones told me it was my responsibility to know what my insurance company covers and what it does not. But how could I have known my insurance company did not cover the biopsy when I was not told it was being sent to the lab? For years I have had no problem with medical billing. Unless it is a dire life or death situation, IT IS THE DOCTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO INFORM A PATIENT OF ALL COSTS AND PROCEDURES PERFORMED. This is not just courtesy, it is mandated. To further emphasize my point, if a customer goes to an auto repair shop and asks a mechanic to replace the routers on their car but later gets billed for a new transmission, it is not the customer's responsibility to pay for it. For those of you seeking an honest and ethical business, this is not the place for you. Do not suffer my fate of unexpected charges and do yourself a favor, go somewhere else. read more

Like a lot of the other reviews here, the staff is just not a welcoming group. My first visit wasn't too bad. I actually feel like my wait time wasn't very long and the doctor I saw (Kaleroy Papantoniou) was very nice and informative. My second visit was not the same. It could be attributed to the place being busy, but I didn't find the staff to be all that helpful and welcoming. The doctor I saw on my second visit (Christopher Byrne) was very pushy and it felt like the whole visit was being rushed. He also pushed me away from my regular pharmacy to go elsewhere that I'm guessing he's probably getting a kickback from. Not very cool and the result of that was my Rx's taking way longer to get (I still haven't gotten them and have taken my business elsewhere). That's just the in-office visits. Calling this office is even worse. I've called many times only to be put on hold for 10+ minutes. I've called many times only to hear the person pick up the phone and hang up. I've left messages that were unanswered (even ones to ask about why I couldn't send my Rx's to a different pharmacy). When you finally get through they just forward you to an automated system (the one that you tried first before realizing that your messages in that system doesn't get through to anyone). I usually do my research pretty thoroughly before choosing a service and yelp was not one of the places I looked before choosing this office. Other review sites seemed to have given them a 3/4 or 4/5 stars, but yelp is where I should've looked first. In this case I chose convenience over actual quality of service since this office was very conveniently located for me, but never again will I patronize this place. read more

Come during weekday early afternoon to avoid crowded check ins! I made the mistake of coming in on a Thursday or a Friday after work and waited over an hour past my original time. Ended up switching from my original dermatologist to a Christopher Byrn and the appointment with him was done within 10 minutes after the 80-90 minute wait. During my second visit, I came at 3:15, waited for maybe 5-10 minutes, and the appointment was done in less than 5. Christopher is very efficient and knowledgeable. read more

I came here with my boyfriend, who was having a pilar cyst removed from the top of his head. Dr. Freid performed the small surgery and though we waiting in the waiting room about an hour the procedure went very well and he was very respectful and nice to him. Getting stitches removed soon and the area on his head where the procedure was done has no scarring. :) read more

She does not do well with doctors or with pain. Doctor A. Taglienti was extremely caring, put my wife at ease explaining procedures. My wife feels fortunate to be a patient of Dr Tagilient. His concerns were always her appearance and any pain. Doctor Tagilient is professional, pleasant, and thorough. Dr Appelbaum is my doctor of choice and every visit he takes his time if I have questions he explains everything to my understanding. The staff is a cut above fantastic. They're kind and courteous. I mostly go to the fresh meadows office now due to convenience of my home and job. The hours are very accommodating as well. One funny mention - I've wanted to do all kinds of cosmetic procedures only because I think I need them. I've been told by the doctor I don't! So they don't try to take your money for no reason. This is the worst business ever. It's nice inside but that the ONLY GOOD PART. You're lucky if you get a person to speak to the first time you call, or you'll be on hold for forever. The medical assistants there treat this job like it's retail. They serve no purpose. At all. I had a good experience with dr Sarah (I think that's her name and she may be a PA). My first time that i ever called I got through so easily and everything was perfect, but when i got to the office for my first appointment I was sitting there for almost 40 minutes and the only reason I didn't say anything beforehand was because I was busy doing something on my phone so I didn't mind the extra wait time, as I had no other engagements. I had to go into the employee area to get the doctor as all the medical assistants left. How can there be patients in the waiting room and you all leave ? Now I get my prescriptions and I realize I had gotten something that I wasn't expecting, so I call the office and was told each time that I'd be patched through to someone and I was never put through. Not only that, but my pharmacy needed the doctor to authorize something and they couldn't reach the doctor either. It's insane. Had I looked at the yelp reviews I would've never booked them.
