First of all, I'm an old guy. My lap top, or center of my world, just decided to stop functioning. Took it in on a busy Saturday morning hoping it would not be terribly bad and was floored. The folks listened to my story, plugged it in, and brought it back to life. It was a simple thing however they took time to listen and evaluate without making me feel too much the fool. A quick, accurate diagnosis of the problem with my HP laptop, ordered a new battery; Mr. Shiverdecker got my laptop running so that I could use it in the meantime, then switched the battery when the new one came in--only a couple of days. Very fast service, nice people. Clearly a family business. The cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend them. The store was a little hard to find, located in the shopping center on College Ave. just off Veterans Parkway, but easy to get to, once found. Plenty of parking. They get the job done, but they're condescending assholes and overcharge you for it. Replaced my hard drive at a 200%+ markup, plus labor costs, and lied to me in an effort to coerce me into using Windows 11 when the laptop originally had windows 10 and had at no point used windows 11. I was told it would take an extra day and a half to get the proper software, which I already had on a flash drive. I was also told, quite aggressively, that it was impossible and too complicated to just install windows 10 from a flash drive and I would regret my choice and, implicitly, come crawling back to them in defeat and pay even more for my hubris. When I grew suspicious about the amount of money they wanted to charge me and started breaking down the individual costs to see how much I could do myself, I was yelled at about functioning business models. For clarity, I do run a small business. If their business model cannot support an informed consumer, I would call it non-functioning. So, I picked up my laptop, resolving to install the operating system and drivers myself, paid the ridiculous invoice, and that's where the story should end, right? Wrong. Because they called my dad-- behind my back, despite the laptop belonging to me and the fact that they knew my phone number-- and told him that the laptop needed to be taken back into the shop. My dad helped me with the laptop, sure, but this move honestly reeked of a scam. So I called them back. Me: hi, my name is ------, apparently you called my father about my laptop? Responder, presumably Randall: yeah, how's that going for you? Me, cheerfully: oh, absolutely wonderful! (at this point i had installed windows 10 and was working on drivers and importing some old data, and had deliberately waited until I'd proven them wrong to call back.) Randall: yeah uh James said he'd charge you 135 for the windows installation? Nah it's just 65 now. He was worried that you wouldn't be able to get it. Me: oh, I was under the impression that this was something mandatory and urgent Randall: ehhh He continued to try and convince me to come back to the shop, at which point I politely informed him that no further help was needed, and hung up. On a lighter note, this has inspired me to go back to school and get a certificate in working with computers, if only out of sheer spite and maybe so I don't have to worry about groceries for the next week or so after getting fleeced by people like these. Anyways. Do your research, or you'll pay the price. read more

Took my hard drive to them to retrieve the data, wound up buying a refurbished that he as able to put my hard drive in it@! DIdn't lose anything, Would recommend!! read more

I am a new customer at Advanced Computing and took my dead iMac in for repair. Being more mature (ok, older) and not a techie person, I suspected the harddrive was dead. James called me the next day with a diagnosis and cost estimate and I had my iMac back in two days! I discovered a minor problem and James was able to use their app to resolve the issue over the phone and at no cost to me. I will recommend Advanced Computing to all my friends. read more
