Purchased 2 screen protectors for 2 brand new iPads a month apart and on first one they put a crystal clear protector great protector and on the second they ...without telling me put what they called a matte version which I was not informed of the difference. The matte was pitiful and visually distorted the screen. I thought it was my eyes it wasn't, thought it was adjustment of screen it wasn't, back to this place I went...was told oh we put a matte on and I said remove it and put clear one on. Disappointed with my experience at Normal Gadgets. Phone had a green screen, and I needed the data off of it. Was told they could put a temp screen on and move the data to their computer then transfer to the new phone. Had to pay a deposit and left phone with them 3pm ish. Went in the next day at after 11am with new phone to start the data transfer and was told that there was nothing they could do because it was a mother board issue, and they were keeping my deposit as a "diagnostic fee" The next day I took it to FixIt mobile repair who did put a temp screen on which allowed me to access my phone with the passcode and was transferring the data within minutes. To me it felt like Normal Gadgets didn't know what to do by looking at it, so didn't even try, but to keep my deposit as a diagnostic fee to me was ridiculous. I interreacted with 3 different individuals and although the repair was completed, I am not sure what they could have done to make the experience worse. I called July 16th or 17th to get the back glass on my iPhone repaired. Sounded like a younger guys asked the model, color and got all the information and told me they do these repairs all the time and confirmed parts are in stock. I told him I use my phone nonstop during Normal Gadgets operating hours through the week, but I'd be at the store 10' Saturday (7/20). Saturday (7/20) I am in the parking lot waiting for them to open. I'd contacted a number of people I interact with constantly in my career to make them aware I'd be offline. They open and go in they have no record of me calling or were expecting me. The gentleman seemed apologetic, but they did not have the part. He told me they do not stock that and would need to order it and they would need a deposit. Not pleased I did not have much of a choice so they ordered the piece and even the receipt says black, the front screen protector he confirmed they had in stock and 99% sure he told me it would be $149. He also confirmed they get that part next day and I shared no rush as I'd need to wait for Saturday the following week. I then got text confirming it was ordered "black" and then that it had been received. I have a receipt from this showing "black housing" when I made the deposit of $35. Odd no place on that receipt does it show the remaining balance. I share this to warn future customer that they might tell you one price and then once they have your phone it be a different price if you want your phone back. As a person in sales for ~$100 difference I cannot not have my phone while disputing charges, so this allowed me to be taken advantage of. Today (7/27) I am again in the parking lot waiting for them to open. I covered with the guy working that the plan was to replace the back glass and I had text showing it was in. He confirmed and acknowledged it was black and that he would put the protective screen saver on the front. I shared I would be back at 4' to pick it up. 3:58 I go in the attended I dropped it off with at 10' shares they got it done and give it to me. I notice it does not have the screen protector on it and he shared he did not have notes on that. I reminded him we talked about with the two other guys and himself when I dropped it off. He shared it would not take long. Looking at the phone I realize they put a blue back on it. He confirms they do not have time today because of closing to correct it and I do not want to be without my phone. He shared that the owner is color blind so might have been an error in ordering but that makes no sense as the order was placed correctly my text clearly says black, so I am at a loss on how reading text in black and white has anything to do with being color blind. Additionally, the charge went up to $249.95. I share that is not what I was told he basically says it is what it is. So, to get my phone back without the correct glass or the screen saver I paid considerably more and made multiple trips. I shared this was not the outcome or experience I expected as a customer and if he had suggestions on what I could have done differently. He had no suggestions. The attendant did offer to order the correct one but at this point I had and have zero confidence they could get it accurate. Nor did I want to be another 4 hours without the main communication device I rely on for my career. If you expect people to do what they say, charge you what they quote, and act with integrity I would not recommend this shop. I wish I would have paid closer attention to the other 1 Star reviews. As feedback to my review, you can see below that they are offering a discount for a future visit. Why would anyone return after an experience this bad? It shocks me that I had to pay full price for the poor service the first time let alone them not honoring the initial price given. I hate that they had my phone hostage to shake me down for an additional fee on top of the fact I still left with the wrong color backing. Next time I will defiantly drive to a city with an Apple store for a more professional experience. We took my son's phone into Normal Gadgets today. A cleat spike broke through the screen and into the phone itself. shattering the screen and causing probable internal damage. They told us it was going to require an additional piece they would have to order to fix the screen due to where the spike went through. After successfully fixing the screen, they were able to repair the broken piece in the process. They could have very easily charged us the extra but instead they were not only honest, but extremely diligent in the process. NOT APPLE CERTIFIED- WILL NOT REPLACE WITH APPLE PRODUCTS I took my Apple iphone 14 pro into their shop with a shattered screen that could not turn on. After charging hundreds of dollars for the repair we attempted to get the phone covered with Apple care, where we learned that they did not replace the screen with an apple product. And therefore could not get it covered by Apple. They did not tell me, or advertise that they were not certified by Apple and therefore could not replace parts with Apple products. They put an off brand screen into my phone without telling me. And in fact when we went back to the shop to ask where or when they told us that they would not replace my Apple phone screen with an Apple product, the manager said, "we are not just going to put a giant sign out front saying that we aren't apple certified." Not only did they have terrible customer service, and cared more about getting money than being honest to their customers, the phone screen was not installed correctly. Months later the phone screen popped off, opening like a book. When we brought the phone back to normal gadgets to show them, they said "she must have peeled it off." The phone screen appeared to have no adhesive applied to it to keep the phone screen in place, and they offered no solution to the problem. I now have to send my phone into Apple to get it fixed. Under no circumstance should you go here for repairs. (Fun fact- most if not all the awards that are hung on their walls were awarded to the previous owners of Normal Gadgets, none of them were awarded to the current owners.) DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY DID NOT FIX PHONE CORRECTLY. THE PHONE HAD A FLASH WHEN IN LOCK POSITION. TOOK ADVANTAGE OF COLLEGE STUDENT!! My daughter who is a college student at ISU called Normal Gadgets to find out about getting her iPhone fixed. It had been dropped and there where lines on her screen. SHE HAD READ BAD REVIEWS BEFORE SHE HAD GONE THERE. Since she did not have a car she did not have much choice so she went there because it was closest to the college. Before she went she asked how long it would take to fix. They told her around 45 min. When she got there after taking a bus from ISU they made her wait 2 hours before they started fixing her phone. When she got her phone back she noticed that the phone flashed when she put it in lock position. She told the man working there and he said that she could bring it back up to 30 days. The store was closing and she couldn't leave without her phone, so she left even though she had read in the reviews that someone else had a flash in there phone and they tried to tell the customer that was a sign that the phone had been dropped. It was very hard for her to get to the store to begin with since she had to take a bus and on foot. When I went to pick her up for her winter break we planned on stopping at the store to deal with the situation, but they were closed. I called the store and talked to the owner, explaining the situation that she still had two weeks left in the 30 day warranty but we were two hours away. I also explained that my daughter had Covid so we were all quarantined because of it. I asked him if we could do a video chat to show the flash on the phone, and then if she could bring it to them when she got back after break. He wouldn't do it. So I asked if I next day it to him would he next day it back. He wouldn't do that either. I couldn't believe that the owner wouldn't work with us considering they didn't fix it right to begin with. There was still two weeks left in the warranty when I called letting him know about the flash. If there is a flash before warranty is up but we can't get there, why wouldn't he honor fixing it when she comes back from break?!! Bottom line terrible customer service, and THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF COLLEGE STUDENTS!! Owner not willing to bend or work with us at all even though they didn't fix it right to begin with. I took my MacBook in a few months ago for a screen that wasn't working. Told me the new screen would be like $500 which i didn't have so told them to mark it as unfixable. When i picked up my laptop today, the whole bottom of the screen is missing as well as cracks all along the bottom. I paid $50 for them to look at it and see what was wrong not for them to damage my laptop even more. And the guy working at the computer who gave me my laptop back, did not warn me of the screens condition at all. I will not be taking my electronics back here again. The voicemail was reminding me it was done as well as telling me to pick it up whenever, and thanks to iphones, i have the voicemail typed out for me. The text also told me that it was done and that i could pick it up at my convenience as well as reminded me that you reserve the right to recycle the device after 30 days. Why would you bother sending me a text or bother calling if you were going to start recycling my device only 22 days after that text and call were received by me?! Not to mention there were SEVERAL calls between me and the business with different things: one saying it was unfixable, one saying it was and that you guys haven't tried fixing it yet, etc. it went back and forth. Sadly i work nights at a hospital multiple days a week and when I'm not working i am sleeping since i am up all night long the night before. Regardless of situation, my point still stands. I went to them for a cracked screen on my iPhone 6s. While I did have to wait a few moments for the one gentleman behind the desk to be available, they were able to help me immediately and got the screen fixed quickly and well. They even worked with my schedule to get my phone back to me as quickly as possible. The couple of people I spoke to or heard working were polite and genuinely seemed to want to fix the issue rather than just charge people for it. The only reason they are not getting 5 stars is I asked if they would put a new screen protector on my phone and they said they would but it was an additional $12 charge. While I understand a charge if someone was walking in off the street asking them to do that, as someone who was paying $110 for a service, I think they could have put a new screen protector on for free. I replied yes I am an Engineer that learned how to solder a long time ago and I didn't understand why it costs $100 for a 5-10 minute job to put in a $8 part. They responded by stating that they had bought a hot air soldering station and needed to pay for it and the training they received. Against my better judgment I let them keep it for repair. After getting a call from them stating that the repair was complete, we picked up the Switch and found out that data was missing ( we had been told that there would be no data loss. Was very disappointed with the service I receive I brought a Mac book air in that I brought in with a non functional S key and the track pad that was not working. after the repair diagnostic I was informed it was due to water damage on the keyboard controller and was informed that they would need to replace it which I was good with. The issue came as When I was called to pick up the device being and told that it was repaired I was given the device and informed that there was some other water damage that may cause issues however that the keyboard and track pad were working. I took the device home and powered it up only to discover that the issue was only partly addressed. The S key still did not work. I took it back and showed that it was not working. The tech took it back to the back room and when he came back said that everything was replaced and "Tested" which clearly could not have been the case as one of the Primary Issues I brought it in for was not corrected. I was told well it must be so to the other water damage that they found and there was nothing they could do. Clearly had they properly done the work that was requested this would have been identified quickly. I am not so much upset about the fact that there may be something wrong with the laptop However I am upset with the fact that they informed me that it was fix and working then to find out that it was not. No attempt was made to rectify the issue only a sorry for your luck I would never let a product out of my store without being properly tested and the customer fully satisfied I will never recommend anyone to have any work done at this location read more

My first and last attempt to work with this shop was marked with a pleasant start but multiple issues that ended up with me taking my product back without it being repaired. I had in person interactions with Safawn and Terry (the manager/owner) and two phone interactions with Drew. When I took in the product to get repaired, a part needed to be ordered. It was coming from China and I was initially told between 2/16 and 3/27 for the eta. Ten (10) days later, I sent written correspondence through their portal for an updated eta, and was told it was due in by the 16th (per Safwan). When I followed up on the 17th, I spoke to Drew who advised me that since the manager was gone for the night and weekend, no one could provide me any updated eta or delivery status. His manners on the phone were particularly atrocious, which put me in a horrible situation where I was out money and a product and had to rely on a service that was treating me like garbage; through these interactions I managed to avoid threatening or swearing at any of the employees, though the temptation did exist. After hearing from Drew later that night with an excuse about how I was misinformed and there's nothing that can be done, I failed to hear from the manager to apologize or follow up until Thursday (2/23). I went in the store the same day (2/23) because I ordered the part myself on 2/17 and it was delivered less than a week later (this part also came from China). I was initially told that the part could not be installed because they did not order it, though the manager then decided to install it. However, when I attempted to voice my frustrations and concerns with the handling of my order, I was talked down to, talked over, and looked at with such disgust that I requested my product back because I could no longer trust them to repair it. He had the nerve to try and preach to me about how civil business was conducted but would not hear about how rudely I was treated in the phone calls, how I was misinformed (in writing), and then questioned my accuracy. The $50.00 diagnostic fee was requested back as a refund since they did no repair work and their diagnosis may not have even been correct. Although they took my funds from my card immediately, they have to mail me a check and would not provide me my funds immediately. The young man sitting up front then asked if it was "alright" that I wait for the mailed refund and that it would take "2 to 3 business days"; I had no other option even though it wasn't okay, but it's what I had to do. This experience was horrible. I decided to try a small, local business for they first time and it will be my last interacting with them. Update*** I contacted this business via phone on 3/11/17 at 10:20 am CST. I was spoken to by Javon (not sure on the spelling), who was quick to inform me he was new and had to get someone else. Fast forward 10 minutes of hold time, he comes back on and asks how he can help me. I remind him, he puts me on hold again for 5 more minutes. When he returns to the phone, he asks if I ever provided any information to receive my refund at, as well as who I spoke with. I informed him that Terry was the one who was supposed to be processing it, and he had someone that worked there take down my information. My refund hasn't arrived and today marks the 16th day, so I told the man that I want to pick it up today, and they need to contact Terry to find out how. He continues to interject as I speak, so I pointedly (without swearing or threats) explain to him that I'm the upset customer, that my previous interactions have all involved being interrupted and talked down to, and that I will not tolerate it further. I will be finishing my sentences and thoughts, because I am the customer. He continues to make excuses about how he's new, but somehow doesn't realize that customer service is not a thing specific to Normal Gadgets. Javon then decides that I'm "bashing" him, whatever that is supposed to mean in the context of me stating that they need to call Terry today and then contact me back regarding my refund, and promptly disconnects the call. I am now furious that they still have my money, and plan to place a personal visit there to get my money back. ***update 03/14/17 I finally received my refund. After receiving a phone call (but no voicemail) I called back at my convenience and was told my refund was waiting there. When I got there, the young man at the front desk was polite. He went and got my envelope, which actually had the wrong name on it, scratched out, and then my name written (strange). To recap: I was told on 2/23/17 that my refund would be delivered in 2-3 business days. I finally received it on 3/14/17 (though they called me on 3/13/17). That's much longer than 2-3 business days, nor does it account for the time I had to spend following up on this. read more

I made a call, they took down my information, and they came out in ambulance..yes they have their own ambulance. Pulled up in front of our ER at OSF St. Josephs, and with in literally 20 minutes, my phone was good as new again. And he took the time to show me some tweaks to improve functionality of my phone. He even boosted my phone with some battery life..and said Doc I know your busy and cant be with out your phone so I made sure i got your more battery life. They were fast, and responsive, and it was an absolute pleasure doing business with them. I really appreciate how they went of their way, and did everything they could to help me. I had a prior good experience here and had recommended this place to quite a few people, but this last experience left me lacking. I made the appointment about 4 days before and stated in the reason for appointment, "iPad 2 home button broken" I arrived to the appointment to learn they didn't have that button in stock. The guy ordered it from the Peoria store and said to come back "next Saturday" (today). I specifically asked, do I need to pay for it to make sure it's here... I really need to get this fixed before vacation. He responded no problem, just come and they'll have it. So I arrive today. No button available -- again. Very incompetent. I just had to create an account to complain about this place. So last week I brought in my Sony Xperia Z to fix the screen ONLY. They told me they would have the phone fixed and ready for me the following week so I adjusted my plans accordingly. Following Thursday, I came, expected to see my phone again. They installed the screen but BROKE the back of the phone. I needed the phone then so I took it back and brought it back again today so that they could finish the fixing. After they put the back on, I got the phone back, expecting everything to be back to normal for real. BUT NO. Less than 8 hours since I left that store the back part of my phone fell off again. Terrible experience getting my phone's screen replaced. The guy told me he would order the screen and it should be in the next day - even asked me if I wanted to leave my phone there. It was actually more than a week before the screen came in. When I dropped off my phone, he said it would be ready at 4:00. I had to call them the next day when I still hadn't heard from them. They were supposed to put on a screen cover and when I went to pick up my phone, they hadn't put it on and they said the only guy who could do it had just left. Then I get the phone home and realize there's a black blotch showing up on my screen. When I go back the next day to get the cover, I tell them about it. They say I can take a ten percent discount to leave it as is or they will replace the screen again. They say they have another screen there this time. I leave the phone there, hoping they'll get to it first thing the next day. I call as soon as they open to make sure they are on task and that I'll have my phone back before they close. They say the screen they have is actually the wrong one and they'll need to order another one. I drive back across town to get my phone back. This is getting super old. When the part comes in, I drop my phone off again and again they say it'll be ready around 4:00. When I haven't heard from them by the time the place is getting close to closing, I call them. I ask if my phone is ready. They say yes. I ask if they put the screen protector on. They say no. Of course not... But at least they're able to get that done and I'm finally able to get my fully repaired phone back just before they close. In all, I had to drive over there SEVEN times. For one screen. In a pandemic. They wound up not charging me as much as they had quoted and not charging for the screen protector. I'm assuming this was a discount for all the headaches, but it could also just be more incompetence... read more
