I was accustomed to…read moretaking my car to the dreadful Carl Black Chevrolet for oil changes because it was close by, even if I HATED being subject to their honky hip-hop blaring over the PA and then five or ten annoying tvs on full blast. I was going to see them very recently and called about having them replace a corroded and of a battery cable, a relatively simple task. They had the unmitigated gall to quote me over $300!!!!! Yeah, no. I called Ace and spoke with Dan and scheduled an appointment for the next day. The cost to replace that corroded end of the cable? $32.00. $32.00 vs. $300. Not only was the cable replaced, I had the oil changed as well and was in and out of there in an hour for well under $100.00. An honest, fair mechanic is difficult to find but after doing a good bit of research and found several reviews both on Yelp and Google, I arrived at ACE and I will bring all my vehicles here from now on. Frankly, I would much rather give my hard earned money to a local business than the cousin of some crappy country singer and his shady dealership. PS: There is no place here to sit an wait on your car but the Orlando Public Library is across the street and Dunkin Donuts is just down East Colonial.

When I came back, they had just done the oil change and told me that next time, I should consider doing X, Y, and Z. They wanted to let me know so I could budget and decide what I really wanted done the next time I come in. They didn't try to take advantage of me or charge me for anything extra. They seem honest and they know their VWs! Note: make sure you call in advance to schedule an oil change. Their schedule fills up. I scheduled my appointment 1.5 weeks in advance.

Once you get in line and someone gets in behind you there isn't a way out. You'll be blocked in (theres a single line that wraps around the building then then splits into two but the only way out once someone gets in line behind you is through) so be ready for that. After waiting an hour in line in my car - there is no lobby or seating at all I had to use the bathroom and they jokingly said "$5" but it really didn't seem like a joke. Had I said yes they acually would ahve taken money from me. It was more forceful and honey pissed me off. We jsut moved and in our previous state that kind of thing is illigal. I'm not sure if it is in FL but it should be. The bathroom was however filthy once I did get in. Then they were all a little too comfortable with me (single white petite female) for my personal taste. (lots of mama, pretty girl, etc) there was a long line of cars on both booths so I know I was in fact safe but I do not like that kind of thing. Lastly, after supplying my own oil and filter it cost me $62...I have never paid that in my life. Each time, I was given a different excuse as to why they could not perform the service. Eventually, I was told to call back on Thursday to schedule for Friday -- which I did exactly as instructed. When I called back, they again asked for my vehicle's make and year. At that point, I was told the promotional deal only applied to vehicles 2015 and newer. This restriction was never mentioned during any of my previous calls, nor is it stated anywhere in the advertised description. To introduce new conditions at the last minute is dishonest and completely unacceptable -- especially for something as routine as an oil change. Despite the red flags, I proceeded with the service. When I returned home, I checked the oil level because by that point I had zero confidence in the quality of their work. The oil level was nearly a full inch above the maximum fill line. Overfilling engine oil is not a minor mistake -- it can cause serious damage to an engine. This level of negligence is alarming. The owner was busy talking on his phone throughout the service, and it is clear he either failed to properly check the oil level afterward or could not be bothered to correct it. Either explanation is unacceptable. Had I not double-checked their work, my engine could have suffered significant damage. That is not just poor service -- it is reckless. I strongly urge others to think carefully before trusting this business with their vehicle.

For instance, they quoted me ~$470 for a battery swap, which is absurd when you consider that a battery costs ~$200 with free replacement at AutoZone (while they quoted me $165 for labor for a 5 minute job). Additionally, for all of the other work they quoted me for, they were $400-600 over market and in one instance ~$800 over market, which is way too much. Perhaps it's because I'm a young guy, and I often give an impression of ignorance, but regardless, even if that were the case, that should be an opportunity to teach and lead, not an opportunity to take advantage of somebody for monetary gain. After consideration, I feel as if 2 stars are warranted. Especially in this industry, honesty and integrity are everything, and in this financial climate, an attempt to take advantage of one's clients lacks integrity and honesty in my estimation. What I was happy with was the thoroughness of inspection, the ease of access to mechanic notes, and the whole process in general. This is very good and top notch.
