I got lost trying to find a different auto place to change my oil and ended up here. I checked the reviews in yelp.com and they had excellent from other yelp reviewers so why not right? Turns out, Yelp users were RIGHT again! The guys here are very kind, competent and honest! They fit me right in on a busy day despite not calling in (my first time here, I didn't know.) While waiting for my car, another customer was worried because she had to get back to work and her car would take longer than she anticipated. The guys offered her a ride to the bank and her work without her even asking! Seriously, Uh how many auto shops take time away from their business to help out a helpless customer for FREE! While waiting for MY car, I was asking Dave about my other car issues on my HHr. Dave was so friendly and knowledgable about everything I asked. He gave me tips and advice about my vehicle as if he was a long lost uncle. He also researched right there and then about how much it would cost and what would be best for my vehicle. I needed some exhaust work done, and I was referred to these guys from my "regular" shop. I called, they had time to diagnose, so I take the car in, they get it up on the lift, and figure out the problem. Now, I already knew what the problem was because my regular shop had discovered it and explained everything to me, but they are a small shop and don't do exhaust work. Anyway, these guys didn't try to oversell me. Their recommended fix was exactly what my regular shop said it should be. They completed the work while I waited in the shop, then they even took me out into the garage to show me and explain what they did -- I really appreciated that. The coffee is actually good (to my tastes -- I'm a blue-collar, drink it black kind of guy -- caramel, mocha, double-shot, non-fat, over-the-top types should probably skip it) and they have a dog around the shop. The dog is awesome, friendly, and loveable, but I mention it in case you're allergic or something like that. I recently moved to Lombard, otherwise these guys would be my go-to shop #2. I only say #2 because I try to be loyal, and my other shop didn't do anything wrong, they're just smaller, so I had to visit these guys. Advanced Automotive Repair has also been consistently ranked at or near the top for automotive shops in the Northwest Suburbs. Started by just two guys, they've slowly grown just as their customer base has, and that should speak volumes. I've been to some mechanics who will find anything and everything wrong with your car to make a buck and sell you what you don't need, but not at Advanced Auto and Truck Repair. They will actually tell you how to fix something yourself, or that the repair isn't really necessary rather than seeing dollar signs. First off if you have a lowered car this is the place to go. They have a lowered rack so they can easily give you an alignment with no hassle, on top of that they have a really good amount of knowledge about coilovers and the ins and outs of lowering a car. We have taken our vehicles to Rod and Jim at Advanced Auto since they opened shop some 25 years ago. I have always found them to be honest and offer a fair price. At times, their price might be slightly higher than the competitor, but when you compare apples to apples, you realize they are giving you a big more (eg...new brake rotors rather than machining, a 2 year warranty instead of 1 year, etc.) They also offer a loaner car or a ride back-and-forth to our home. When the repair estimate has been more than we were ready to handle, they would divide the payment up into two or even three payments. The place is not as fancy as a dealership, but they are good down-to-earth people who have taken good care of us and our vehicles for over two decades! read more

As a private detective, I'm extremely cautious and I trust no one! Jimmy and his team at Advanced are the exceptions! I brought them my 2007 Audi A-4 Cabriolet Quattro, which needed a new turbo and a replacement cylinder head. Not only did they charge me 3K less than had been quoted by another local shop (and my local Audi dealer too), but they also actually fixed all of the problems that had previously plagued me and had been consistently mis-diagnosed and mis-repaired by the other local shop! The Friday before our weekend road trip to the Twin Cities one of the tire on my minivan was totally deflated. The portable air compressor I had broke so I thought putting on the spare tire was a good option. Two and a half hours later in 17 degree temp, I could not get the tire off the axle despite repeated efforts donkey kicking it. I went to the shop to get their advice, and Rod gave me a canister of air so I could fill the tire and drive the vehicle to their shop to get looked at. Tire was inflated in 30s and was able to drive it to the shop and they were able to fix the issue without having to replace the whole tire. We were able to make our road trip with the piece of mind that the tire was sound. I really appreciate the guys' honesty and their understanding of my urgency so they were able to fix the tire quickly. I was really expecting to replace the whole tire and was pleasantly surprised when they told me it was just a fixable leak and only cost me $25!
