Have you ever asked anyone: 'can you recommend an honest mechanic'?…read moreAs consumers who work hard for our pay, we have a fear of having a 'bad' mechanic experience and spending lots of $'s. I think most all of us can tell a bad 'mechanic story.' Few of us can tell a 'good mechanic' story but this is one. I recommend you talk to Billy on the phone, he will give you the straight scoop. The issue was a 2004 Mazda 6 that had a 'check engine light' on. The car is tagged in NC and the registration expires the end of May. In Carolina you can't get your registration renewed unless your vehicle can pass a State inspection. After talking to Billy on the phone he said bring it in let's take a look; It was almost 5p on Friday when I got there. I think most people are ready to roll @ 5p on a Friday. He has straight up and professional. He said we will run a diagnostics on it and if we can fix it we will but we'll call you if it's going to cost you money. We spoke on Monday morning. He said we ran the diagnostics and we can't find an issue and there is no bad code history. What's the charge I asked? No charge he said, all we did is run the codes and nothing is wrong with it so you can come pick it up and theres no charge. Now we are holding our fingers that the check engine light doesn't come on before we get it to NC for a State Inspection so we can THEN get the registration renewed before the end of the month. So that's the rest of the story. I would not hesitate to recommend these guys.

Absolutely the worst place to get parts. Run. Don't walk from this company. Ordered transmission…read moreand transfer case for an Explorer. What was sent to me was those parts for a Ford Edge. Started the return process a week ago. I returned the transfer case myself because it was small enough to fit into my other vehicle. Drove to the warehouse to exchange and the one for the exchange they had tagged as for an Explorer was ALSO for an Edge. Decided to return the transfer case and transmission right then. Sourced a different part from another company while waiting for the return to be initiated. This was a week ago. I was promised a week ago that the transmission (sitting on a pallet and too heavy for me to pick up) would be picked up by a driver "tomorrow". I've called each day since then and was assured that it would be "tomorrow". Finally contacted the "Sales Manager" and was again told "tomorrow". It is BEYOND RIDICULOUS that it takes a week to pick up the part especially when the warehouse is 10 minutes away. IT is also UNACCEPTABLE that the part is on a list and not getting picked up and that "dispatch" cannot call a driver and make sure that they swing by the shop and pick up the part. The ONLY honest and competent person I've dealt with is the guy in the warehouse who took my transfer case. 1) Don't know what parts they have (labeled wrong in their system) 2) Sales people are clueless 3) Return process is ridiculously long 4) Dishonest reps at every stage of the process Again. Run. Don't walk away from this shady company. This company gets ZERO stars from me. But I have to give it at least one star to post this review.

When I bought an old used 2011 Tundra, I asked them for basic maintenance and alignment. I also…read moreasked them what they think of the truck and what they recommend. Very honest, kept it simple, and didn't try to upsell. Bought another used Tundra that had some issues. Brought it to them and they figured out all my issues like new alternator, wheel bearing with all the fixings, and fixed the air vents not changing with the controls. They also gave me things to look out for when I asked what they think of the truck or if it's junk. They gave me price quotes for things I want to do in the future when I asked too. They may be a little pricey but they like using OEM parts for things that affect the engine or performance plus they warranty their work and are honest about it all. I like the invoice they send with pictures of things that concern them with their recommendations. And to the mechanic that worked on my truck. Sorry I didn't realize it was soo muddy underneath. You are awesome!

I personally went to Gainesville Garage & Trailer Sales before my appointment to explain that I was…read morebringing my four-year-old vehicle in for a thorough checkup before a 1,200-mile trip. I specifically explained that it was important for me to speak with the mechanic after the inspection so I could understand not only whether the vehicle was currently safe to drive, but also whether there were any developing issues, wear items, or concerns I should be aware of going forward. Since I paid for a multipoint checkup, I think it was entirely reasonable to expect an opportunity to ask the mechanic a few questions about what he actually observed during the inspection--not simply be handed a general "everything looks fine" conclusion. After the inspection, I paid the charges but was told the mechanic was not available to speak with me. I asked that he contact me afterward, but no one did. I called again and received no response. Because I had been led to believe I would be contacted, I ultimately drove back to the shop in person, only to then be told that mechanics do not speak with customers. That was particularly frustrating because I had made my expectations clear before the appointment. I did not bring the vehicle in merely to receive a generic assurance that "everything is fine." I wanted the benefit of the mechanic's actual observations after examining the vehicle, especially before a 1,200-mile drive. At this point, despite paying for the evaluation, I have very little understanding of the actual condition of my vehicle beyond a summary declaration that all was well. If all I wanted was a rubber stamp, I could have gone elsewhere. What I expected was a meaningful inspection followed by enough communication to understand what was found and whether there is anything I should monitor, maintain, or address in the foreseeable future. I'm frustrated that, after paying for what I expected to be a meaningful evaluation, I now have to take my car somewhere else and pay again just to get the proper assessment and explanation this shop failed to provide.

Piedmont Tire and Auto has my complete trust. Had purchased tires from them many years ago. I called, told them the make, model, and wanted something good in snow, rain, and off road (for a Jeep). They answered a few questions, ordered the tires, I scheduled the appointment, got them put on, and when I went to pay thought it was a mistake because the price was so low. After paying, was driving off the lot and immediately noticed a huge difference - it rode much smoother. The next day, researched the tire brand thinking with such a low price, it was a bad brand - only to discover that the brand is a recognized one and of high quality; additionally, the specific tire's description specifies that it is made for snow, rain, and for off road. I love, love, love Piedmont Tire & Auto. The professionals are incredibly good, attentative, and polite. One recommendation is to either drop it off or Uber somewhere while waiting. Though they are efficient and operate, smoothly, they have a constant flow of customers. They appreciate buffer time to accommodate everyone.
