I've used this auto shop several times for both cars. We've had services ranging from routine inspections to minor repairs and each time have left satisfied. Their front desk has always been courteous and up front regarding costs and time estimates. BUT--- I most appreciate their honesty after the last service. I had two damaged tires replaced and asked them to replace the brakes as well while the car was there. Another auto shop had told me a few months earlier at the state inspection I should have that done but i didn't have time that day. Turns out that other shop was just trying to get more $ out of me. Bills auto informed me there was still adequate life in those brakes after inspection. They did not replace them although it would've been some quick and easy profit. The tire replacement was done at a fair price. We've had other places price match for lower but the cost was still reasonable. read more

My friend recommended this place for service after my car failed inspection. The place that failed it said I needed a new shock absorber and offered to do the work. After calling several places, the price ranged from $850-$1200. I had them take a look and they informed me nothing was wrong with my shock absorber and it shouldn't have failed. I did need to have a new battery, which I had put off for sometime. This was such a relief as I was freaking out about the cost of replacement. They replaced my battery and even took the time to clean up my engine due to the battery acid spreading. I didn't get her name but the lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful and fully explained my existing and non-existing car issues. This review is not about service because I didn't receive what I needed. First off, the lady at the counter was very rude. I needed a simple service, tire balancing. It's 12:03 now and she said they closed at 2. I was okay with waiting 2 hours because I had nothing else to do today. She checked with the mechanics and she said they would do it. I asked the price, she said $60. Wow. Nissan charges $39.95. Looks like I'll go to the dealership to get this done. Also, the lady told me that I couldn't wait on the weekends. Well it's raining today so would I have had to walk home in the rain? How rude and inconsiderate. If you don't have time, simply say you don't have time. No need to have a rude tone with a customer that is ready to spend money with you. Definitely won't be giving this place a chance again. I used them for a little while. Mainly because they were close. Perhaps they make their money on the ignorance of the general public. Perhaps they think they employ solid gold mechanics. They will not allow you to take your old part. They also will not allow you to provide them with the new part. They utilize a parts store up the street. You as a consumer could go to the SAME parts store, and they will not put it in. They want that 500% mark up on supplies. They overcharge and the quality of work is hit or miss. With so many other choices in town, I would suggest going elsewhere. Case and point: They wanted almost 3 grand for work that I had done for 800 dollars elsewhere. read more

Went here after being dicked around at the west gate shell station on my inspection. They did the reinspection without knowing what i previously failed for. I pssed and they let me know i need to replace a tire that is at limit. The only thing i didn't like was the wait. I had my car towed here because it overheated. They replaced my water pump and thermostat but when I came back to pick it up it overheated before I got it home. They had me tow it back to their shop the next day to see what was wrong. After a more thorough inspection they realized I had blown a head gasket and the repairs made the previous day were reimbursed to me. I give them 4 stars because even the mechanic admitted that they should have caught the head gasket issue first. I brought my car here for an oil change and inspection with emissions. The service was fast and reasonably priced, and they didn't try to upsell. They have a comfortable, temperature-controlled waiting area with 6 seats and a bench outdoors. It's a particularly convenient location if you need to wait onsite: there are two convenience stores on the same block, and the public library is only one block away. I was absolutely floored with the quality of customer service of Bills Automotive. The staff is extremely courteous and professional. I had some issues with other auto places in the area in getting the air conditioning system repaired for my 1987 Buick Grand National so I had called Bills (after seeing the positive reviews on Angies list) and asked if they would service my car since I had an air compressor from the previous place whom wouldn't work on the car. They told me that was no problem and I brought the car and compressor in that night and dropped off my keys in the over night box. Well when they got to my car promptly the next day, they told me of a few things that would need to be replaced in order to properly repair the AC system (due to the dead compressor) and quoted me a cost that was STILL cheaper than Pepboys whom had not even mentioned replacing parts that had metal shavings throughout them due to the failed compressor. So I gave them the OK and they got to work. The next day I got a call saying the compressor I supplied didn't work, and gave me a cost to get their part. They were extremely reasonable and understanding when I mentioned I had the money tied up in the compressor I had given them and needed to figure out what I could do with that first. So in the end I came back with another air compressor and dropped it off. The next day I got a call saying THAT compressor didn't work either. Now I've dealt with some shifty auto repair places in the past, so it crossed my mind that Bills was messing around trying to get me to pay crazy costs in labor charges (and perhaps there was nothing wrong with the compressors, and I did happen to notice upon picking up the first compressor ) but at this point I figured it was too late to tell them to forget it now. So I went back picked up my compressor and had to wait for the replacement for that compressor. Mind you Bills was extremely understanding and didn't care that my car sat on their lot for almost 2 weeks! Anyway I came back with the third compressor and dropped it off 10 minutes before they closed and they got to it promptly the next day, and I got a call that my car was finished! So I went to Bills expecting the worst on the bill for labor of the 3 compressor removals (the original and 2 "defective" ones) and the install of 3 compressors (the 2 defective and the working one), only to find out that the price was what they quoted me. I was amazed! I thought for sure my bill was going to be $1000+ after all the time and effort they put into my car. Instantly I knew that when they said I had 2 compressors that didn't work, I ACTUALLY HAD 2 compressors that didn't work! I tend to do whatever I can on my car on my own, but there are definitely certain things I'm unable to do by myself. And I will GLADLY be coming back to Bills from now on for any of those jobs I'm not capable of. What a great experience and a great group of people to deal with! read more

Sadly, this is story of a five star establishment that has drop to two stars after the business passed from father to son. I have used this shop for twenty years, since moving to the area. Bill was great, explaining whatever was the issue and sometimes would give advice such as "she's an old girl, you need to watch 'X.'" However, since Bill's retirement, this shop has changed character; It seems the new owners are more interested in the quick dollar than the long term relationship. Customers, now, rarely speak to the actual mechanic and the front office seems to give you answers off the top of the head and without technical knowledge (everything is blamed on rust or age, even if a part, such as belt or hoses, are less than two years old). It is rare these days to ever speak to the actual technician; Only one, from the old days, will do "show and tell" and explain what he found, the rest you just have to trust their stories as told to you by the front office. The front office will run interference for Wes, so if you have a question or complaint, you are still talking to the front office, one will merely pass you to the other. One might as well go to Sears Automotive or AAA Automotive, for Bill's is now following the same business model, but you at least are able to speak to an actual manager with some actual authority and responsibilities. I will be looking for another shop with the small shop service and relationships, that used to be a hallmark of Bill's Auto Services. read more

Ive gone to Bills since 2008 and even drive down from Fairfax instead of taking my car anywhere else. Today, I took off work early to return to Bill's auto service for a reinspection after replacing a lower ball joint they claimed I needed. It would have been a simple re-inspection that could have been done in less than 5 or 10 minutes since all they would have to do is verify that the new ball joint was installed. I arrived at 4:30 and although Bill's Auto Service claims to be open until 6:00, they would not even consider doing the reinspection, despite my having to take time off work to accomodate Bill's Auto Service' limited hours. It is clear that Bill's Auto Service think the customers only exist to serve them rather than the other way around. The customer is clearly a low priority for Bill's Auto Service, so I would not recommend them. read more
