Signed up with ADT after being told my package included three cameras and a keypad. When the installer arrived, I was told cameras were not included and would cost extra. I declined because that was not what I was sold. Since then, I've made numerous calls asking ADT to review the original sales call and honor what was promised. I was told this would be reviewed, but no follow up ever happened. I've continued to be billed for services I never received, including video monitoring. My home was broken into twice and ADT has yet to honor any of their obligations to me as a paying customer. ADT continued to take my payments and even increased my bill, while failing to resolve the issue. Extremely disappointing and unacceptable experience. Their equipment is overpriced, can't return it if you change your mind by the way, their customer service is unbelievably inefficient, installer didn't tell me how to use any of it, had to make multiple calls to customer service, initial quote was half as much as after the install, finally decided to drop the monitoring, etc. I had to figure everything out myself. I've been an ADT customer for over 10 years, and I'm truly disappointed with how they've handled things recently. After a system upgrade, my monthly bill went up--despite being told my rate would stay the same. When I called to get it corrected, I spoke with Stephanie (ID 206944), who insisted there was nothing they could do to adjust the base fee. I expected better from a company I've been loyal to for over a decade. It feels like ADT is more interested in leaning on fine print than actually honoring what was promised. They expect you to stick to the contract, but don't always seem to hold themselves to the same standard. I'm locked in until July 2026, but once that's up, I'll be looking elsewhere. If you're considering ADT, read every word of the contract carefully. Some sleazy sales guy called me trying to sell me it asked me for information. He just was going to give me pricing, or so he said. He asked for my social...I said no. I don't want you to run a credit report I just want to know what pricing is. He assured me he would not. He just needed it for his file, for every customer. While I was on the phone with him I got a notice from one of the credit agencies...the sleezeball lied while on the phone with me.. He did a hard inquiry. I would give this company "0" stars if I could. We moved into a new home with a alarm system already installed. I received three notices in the mail from ADT saying, "you are the new home owner if you'd like to take over the ADT account installed in your home it would be $19.99 for 12 months". FALSE ADVERTISING: this "promotion" was only for landlines BUT that wasn't written anywhere on the paper. When I asked for it to be validated, the technicians said, "we got all new equipment yesterday so this promotion expired." But the notice clearly stated the promotion was valid until the end of august. I was told over the phone the basic package is $27.00 and the largest with cameras is $59.00. Once the technicians arrived, they said "this isn't our updated systems". Since they were there, we decided to just get a quote anyways. The equipment pricing is a rip off. If we went with their equipment for all of our doors / windows it would cost us over $7,000.00. We ended up only installing 3 motion detectors and 6 door sensors and it came out to $53.00 a month. That's odd, because the lady said the "basic package" is $27.00 and that's what we had? We signed contract anyways by feeling peered pressures since their technicians where already present and we didn't want to go through the hassle of contacting other companies. Fast forward to the cancelation process (the morning after, after feeling sick to my stomach like I made a huge mistake): the contract I signed said to "fill out this page to cancel and send it to the Indianapolis office location". The lady I spoke to on the phone to cancel with, gave me an email address to send it too as well. An employee responded via the email 6 days later, saying "I need more information and you need to send a cancelation notice to this Colorado address". So I did what I was told by the company. Once an employee finally called to discuss the protocol to cancel, I told her their cancelation process is very difficult and she let me know that you can only cancel by sending in a notice to the Indianapolis address. On the day they came out to uninstall their system, 15 mins prior to the companies arrival I receive a phone call from an employee stating, "I am calling to help you begin your cancelation process but before I do so I wanted you to know you have been approved $14.99 a month". Your company is literally on their way to uninstall your services as we speak.... some miscommunication within the company I suppose? Unprofessional. The icing on the cake to end the experience, the technician who uninstalled the system cracked our outlet frame because he was too lazy to unscrew it and yanked the cords from out of it. read more

My buddy recently called ADT for a home security system. I had an incident recently so I asked him for a contact number and called the person he used. David B agreed to come out to my place rather than providing a quote which I totally understand. David came after work which was greatly appreciated. I think the plan I purchased was affordable and gave me a definite sense of security. Not only was he friendly and patient he gave me back my ability to sleep. After "the incident" my insomnia kicked into overdrive. Dario was the installer. He was very nice and helpful too. And he likes the same NFL team!!! I haven't had to call for customer service so I don't know what the negativity is all about. The 2 guys I dealt with were great. And auto pay available which is great. I'm still waiting for my refund. I have been lied to by everyone I've talked too. BEWARE some other company sets up your appointments and ADT doesn't do anything when they steal your money. For a company this big, you would think they would have better customer service. I talked to their Customer Advocate yesterday and was told he would reach out to this other company that stole my money and find out when I would receive my refund. Total lie. When he said he would contact them, he made it sound like he was going to call. Nope, he tells me just now when I called him that he sent an email and they have 24 to 48 hours to respond. You think you could have mentioned that instead of telling me you would get back to me today. Do they teach all their employees how to lie effectively in their training? Just to let you know I NEVER write reviews... but with POOR SERVICE I have received from ADT, I feel I need to let the public in the Modesto CA area know how I was (and still am) being treated. My Business was broken into on August 8, 2020. I was contacted by ADT at 2:41 a.m. and they informed me of the break in. During the phone conversation ADT asked, "Should we call the Police Dept?" I said YES! It took until 5:00 a.m. for the security company arrive on site AND the Police Dept was NOT contacted! Later that same day (August 8) I spoke to an ADT manager. When I questioned him as to "Why did it take so long for the Security Company to arrive on site?" he didn't have an answer for me. Nor could he get one from the Security Company. The security company was contacted at approx 2:45 a.m. and did not show up until approx 5:00 a.m. THAT'S OVER 2 HOURS MY STORE WAS UNPROTECTED AND LEFT WIDE OPEN!! The ADT manager further assured me, I would NOT be charged... BUT, I AM STILL RECEIVING A BILL. This is the worst company that I have ever done business with. - My credit was good but they couldn't find me in the system (even though I own a home) so I paid the full two years in advance. - one installed the charged my credit card four months in a row before I could get them to stop. - Once they stopped they would not give me a refund, only offered to give me four additional months of service which I did not want. - I endured the two year contract. Tried to confirm the closing of the account. They gave me a specific date I would be able to close the account. - I called on that date. Closed the contract with an effective date that was the end of the 24 month contract. - It was confirmed after the effective date (30 days after I closed the contract) I would receive a refund of $103 for the overcharged months. - Finally received the check but only $53. After an hour of nonsense on the phone with Customer service, I was still being charged two additional months. I would not recommend ADT to anyone. For me it was two years of frustration and aggravation only to end with one last twist of the knife. Not worth the trouble to chase the $50 anymore which I suppose they know people finally give up and take their lumps. Zero stars for me. read more

First of all I had a number of false alarms and got no call from ADT. I only got one call out of the multiple false alarms. I was out of town and the alarm was tripped. This was probably a real alarm since no family member tripped it. My neighbor called my sister and it took her 30 minutes to get to my house. The alarm continued to go on with no call from ADT. Also, I had a number of smoke alarms and they never tripped the service. Yes, I did call and talk to ADT operations. Afterwards we got that one catch that I mention above but never got another call for a tripped alarm. So, I decided to eat that one year I had already paid for in advance and stop using the service. Needless to say when I tried to cancel they told me I had a 2 year contract. News to me since I explicitly told the sales person I did NOT do multi-year contracts. The billing "specialist" had the audacity to tell me there's a California law that makes it mandatory for a 2 year contract. Is he out of his freaking mind.! Not only that, it was just an activation since the equipment had been in my house for over 9 years. No new installation or costs to them. Just the service. It makes me angry to pay for poor service. This branch provides nothing but LIES!!! They are not even part of ADT, they are a service company that will lie out of their ass to sell you the security system. I have had nothing but issues with this company and conveniently once the contract was signed and system installed my customer service rep, Errol Dennis II phone was no longer accepting calls!!! Let's list the all the issues: 1. Over a month to install the unit after 3-4 mishaps on their end. Lost our paperwork, didn't have the correct dial pad, multiple times. 2. All the emergency contact was incorrect. I had to find out about this myself when I signed up for MyADT. Shouldn't this be considered one of the most important detail??? 3. Billing information all incorrect! 4. Didn't even inform me that I need a police permit when installing the unit as well as pay a permit fee after I informed them many, many times that I want the police unit to show up if the alarm goes off. 5. Said that maintenance is free of charge! This includes changing the batteries, etc. BULLSHIT! Granted I was shocked and happy when they said this was a free service but when the time came to replace batteries, I find out that it's a $150 service plus $10 per battery! WTF!?!?!? Ok so my business has adt for our alarm service...our equipment chose 3am this morning to go faulty...i found myself UP, AWAKE AND COLD driving to my office to TRY to shut off the alarm. I didn't get it to work but Jeff Hoffman, the service tech who came out today was SUPER helpful...replaced what was faulty and now I am a happy customer again...Yes, a tech can answer a service call and leave..but it takes a good employee to CHANGE how thier customer feels entirely...i was going to look for another service but instead I'm sticking with ADT ..thanks Jeff!!! read more

If I could give a one star I would. Worst service that I have ever seen. I agree with everything else the other reviewers wrote. This is what I started writing before I spoke with Tracy Jeffers. I had called 2 times in the last 2 weeks and spoke to 2 different people and still nothing was done as promised. This time I asked for a manager and I happened to get him and he was real nice. He not only fixed the problem, he also sent a confirmation email. Hence the three stars. It's just the customer service don't have power to do anything and they have to go through billing and other departments to handle anything that they promise they will do. What they say and what they do are very different. They broke their contract by not following it. They said our phone bill was going to reflect a $40 dollar credit each month for a year. They said it would take a few months to kick in. 5 months now, no credit. Tried to call them at the number they gave, no such luck. We felt we could trust them but not the case. They sure take their money every month, $63.99. We only have a ring doorbell that doesn't work with their system. They never mentioned that we had to pay extra to use the ring doorbell the way it is intended. That's another $10 a month on top of the $63,99? I got ADT home security system installed about 2 month ago. First of all, I didn't know that I wasn't dealing directly with ADT but through an authorized dealer called Defenders. They only offered me one type of system and one type of cameras. At first I felt that I was getting a good deal and I was happy for a week until I started to noticed that the camera was not recording most of the activity happening in front of my house. I was never explained that the camera only records for 30 seconds and there's a lapse time of 5 minutes between recording meaning, it doesn't record for 5 minutes after each event and quality is pixilated. I talked to ADT about this and they sent a technician and charged me $25 for the service. ADT technician informed that they didn't offered me the better cameras and newer system and I was overcharged for the equipment since vendors can have they're own prices. For three weeks I've been talking to ADT about trying to get me what I paid for or cancel my service but so far they just have me bouncing from place to place without any answers or help. Be careful when calling the numbers on flyers because they don't belong to ADT directly. Instead those are from authorized vendors who can easily take advantage of your need to protect your house and your family. read more

ADT is the most bogus, lying, "security" company there is. In October 2010 I got a new box from them so that if there were an emergency I could "talk" to them through the box instead of waiting for a phone call. I was very specific that I did not want a contract extension. In October 2011 I decided to go with another security company. They called ADT and were told that my contract was expired as of October 16th. Lo and behold, I keep getting billed by ADT. I call them & they tell me I have to pay a $300 "early termination" fee!! I ask why & they tell me my contract doesn't expire for another year. I send them my paperwork from the upgrade indicating no extension. They send me back the same paperwork and another contract supposedly my signature on it (clearly signed by the same person who wrote the contract). I wrote again & disputed my signature. They made me sign an Affidavit of Forgery that had to be notarized (for $25), give an exemplar with my signature written 10 times, and send copies of the front and back of a major credit card and my driver's license. I get a letter today saying they have "determined that the signature on the contract matches the documentation submitted". BULLSHIT!! The forger didn't even spell my name right!! I am outraged. No support when back up battery died, all I get is advertisements to install a new system with out any offer to update my system at reduced cost, and price increases every year. By the way, if you have a system your best bet for battery replacement is Amazon.com not ADT. Get on in advance because ADT monitoring gives you nothing but grief when the battery fails. ADT as a service is really not worth the trouble. My main issue with them is the lack of training of their monitoring employees (not sure what their title is). When the alarm goes off and they call, their lack of knowledge is woeful and their attitude is worse. In San Jose, after talking to the police, I came to understand that the police cannot be dispatched without verification of break-in. Makes sense, large area, large population, lots of false alarms. ADT reps without fail tell you that the police have been dispatched. This is an issue when you are 500 miles away and your alarm is going off, like I was this Xmas Eve. Honestly, you are better off getting an alarm that just makes noise and alerts your cell phone. With that you get all the benefits of ADT, they add literally 0 value. read more

I told the customer service rep Bill that I did not want my credit charged until I spoke with the tech Justin and then I would make my decision if I would sign up for their service. Bill promised that I would be refunded my money if I did not sign up for the service. Bill told me cameras would be included with the monitoring for $27.99 per month; however, when Justin arrived the price was $59.99. I declined the service due to the cost. Justin said I would receive a refund to my credit card and he contacted his office and I spoke with a woman who said I would receive a refund. My account was charged on 07/12/2019 and I still have not received my refund of $106.80 from ADT. I filed a dispute on with my credit card company. read more

Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with a company. If you are thinking about ADT please read. I finally called after receiving multiple flyers in the mail. It advertised $29 a month entire house covered. The installer came and everything was going good until the options were shown to me. I was told I got the $800 system for free and they threw in an additional $1000 in extras. He laid out the camera, fancy door lock and all the other options. He went on to say that with the system he recommended, the total cost would be just over $7,000!!!! After I laughed that off, we downgraded the system until I used the $1,800 I was alloted. Even then, not every door and window was covered. I asked how do they advertise WHOLE HOUSE and he explained the motion sensor actually covers the whole house. Wow. After the entire system is installed, he pulls up the monthly payment plans. $29, $54 and I think a $70 plan. I instantly point to the $29 and he steers me toward the $54 plan. After insisting several times I did not want the bigger plan, he asks me if I have a land-line. I said of course not, who does? He said if I did not have a land-line I would HAVE to go with the $54 plan. This was SO deceitful on behalf of ATT!!! So, the lure you in with the flyers and a low monthly payment. They hide the small print saying you need a land-line or else your plan almost doubles in price. And finally they wait until the entire system is installed before they ask about your land-line. After several calls with managers who told me I should have read the small print, they cancelled my install and refunded my deposit. He removed the system. So if you are thinking about ADT trust these one and two star reviews. Just because they are the big boys doesn't mean they are the best. On a final note, the poor kid that installed the system, the removed it - he doesn't get paid for his time. Total crap all the way around ADT! read more

Even if it's only a couple dollars over the 24 month contract it sucks. They say they have a recording so I can't do anything about it.
