We visited this establishment after a long day out shopping. I want to get straight to the point about this restaurant. The FOOD is very very basic Tex Mex. I had the Chimichanga and my wife had the Enchiladas Verdes and my daughter had the Chicken Fried Steak with French fries. The French fries were the best thing out of it all. Flavor was lacking in every plate. No seasoning, no spice, no anything. Just very tasteless boring food. The margarita I had tasted like KoolAid. The tortillas and chips definitely tasted store bought and were flavorless as well. If your from out of state and never had good Tex Mex please don't visit this place. Go to Lupe Tortilla in San Antonio if you want good Tex Mex. I told my wife after just a few bites that it was time to go. We literally left 75% of all our plates untouched. We were excited to try this place tonight. Unfortunately it was a major let down. We ordered the Adobe Chalupa special and a chimichanga. Both meals came with an excessive amount of some velveeta type cheese which we weren't expecting. We continued to eat as much as we could but every bite was just a mouthful of this cheese and I quickly regretted coming here. We did not enjoy it one bit. Not sure why my husband likes this place. My first time I wasn't impressed. The bar service was okay at best. I couldn't finish the Mexican Martini I ordered. Very sour. The food was ok but noticed a slight difference in how we were treated versus others (we were the only Hispanics at the bar, hmmm). I do have a pet peeve of servers having chipped fingernail polish while serving my plate. We had to ask for utensils, had to ask for a straw. Had an awesome experience the first time we went here. The food was great, the atmosphere was family oriented and the staff really liked their jobs (you could tell). My three year old started having a meltdown so I proceeded to take her outside when I was stopped by a staff member who asked if there was anything they could bring out for her right then to help ease the situation. Not very good. I ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas expecting something good. They came out dry and about half filled with shrimp. I always order seafood enchiladas when I see them in a new restaurant I'm trying. My wife complained of her enchiladas being dry too. The salsa was thin, runny and not impressive at all. I liked the overall experience of this place. The wait is not long but since it's popular because of its drive thru the wait is inevitable. We were seated within 5 minutes of entering. Ordered a 'chile relleno en nogada' along with two other plates. It took them maybe 10 minutes to serve us with this flavorful dish. The meat was dry and the poblano was under cooked but the yoghurt or sauce accompanied with it was a delicacy and really brought out the flavor in everything! I had underestimated this restaurant! The server was great, he came back often and never forgot us, very friendly. The bathrooms were clean. If they took their time more for customers inside the restaurant maybe wouldn't serve warm food on hot plates. The three stars are for their great service, great taste and cleanliness but sadly it lacked excitement factor. It's still a fast food restaurant with grandeur everything already prepared. Haha. So apparently this place has been here for 20-something years and we had no idea until they changed their sign. Ooopps. Their tortilla soup was different, but good. The flautas were awesome, as were the carne guisada, rice, beans and home made tortillas! I felt like the plates could have been a few dollars cheaper, but we will definitely be back. After enjoying a nice walk around Landa Park, my parents and I were looking for a nearby restaurant for lunch. Being tourists, we referred to the New Braunfelser guide and saw an ad for Adobe Cafe. Seeing that it's been around for 20 years, we figured it's been doing something right so we decided to head on over. The salsa served with our chips was delicious. It had a subtle kick and I could eat it by the spoonful. I ordered a combo meal consisting of an enchilada, chalupa and guacamole. I'm notorious for not finishing my food, but portion wise it was perfect for me and I had no issues cleaning my plate. The enchilada sauce was the perfect consistency with the right amount of flavor. The guacamole could've used more salt, but then again I've been forever changed by Chipotle's salt and lime flavored guacamole, so perhaps you should just.... take this statement with a grain of salt? My dad ordered the carnitas, and paired with the sauce that it comes with, it was (wait for it----) divine. With good prices and solid food, it's no wonder this place has been around for a while. Great food and service once we got into the restaurant. We were visiting from out of town. Unfortunately the wait and reservation process of entering the restaurant are very poorly handled. The young lady at the door was not trained properly to handle the situation of a busy Sunday afternoon lunch rush. She had no script to work from,gave conflicting information and got completely flustered by patrons wanting any updates. We were told it would be a 35 minute wait and unfortunately elected to stay and wait it out. We had elderly parents with us and the outside temperature was in the high 90's. Our total wait time was over an 1:15 minutes to finally get seated. Unacceptable. They would not entertain pulling together 2 smaller tables and instead insisted on a 6 top table opening up for our party first. Poorly handled queuing of reservations or thoughtful planning for larger parties. I get it's a COVID world, but come on guys, common sense should prevail here. Complaining to the Manager got us nowhere. An offer of bottled water for those patrons waiting outside in the heat would have been an appropriate response. Only the next table up we're allowed into the lobby. We won't be back anytime soon despite the great food and table service. read more
