Was my first time here, waitresses really nice. When I was about to pay the guy at the cashier was really rude, he looked irritated/annoyed that we wanted to pay. If u don't like your job you can always quit. Other than that everyone was super nice and welcoming, food came really fast and it was delicious. This is a new opened restaurant and I have been wanting to give it a try so this morning we headed over! Party of 2. We were greeted and sat quickly as the only customers. It was decorated nicely, it was spotless and very warm and welcoming. The waitress was kind and very attentive. The tea was fresh and very good. We ordered: The chilequiles plate The huevos divorced A side of guisada Chips and salsa The food was heavenly. Everything was cooked to perfection. The flavors were authentic from scratch, the food was fresh and hot. The only concern was the price. The total was $32.00. Seems steep but worth every penny for the amount of food and the quality. This is my 2nd time going to El Torito, I loved everything about it, the ambiance, the cute decoration and especially the food. I had the flauta plate and my mother had Huevos rancheros. They were delicious. We went back a 2nd time, I went to the bathroom and found this (see pictures ) a sign that says " No toilet paper in the toilet" with a huge trash can in the stall, and then on the shelf a used toilet seat. !!!!! So, this place has been here for a long time. I remember it having a huge rocking chair in front. So we were driving around, cause the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed, due to the fair. Well, we drove past quite a few places, then decided to turn around. Stopped here, and we were not disappointed. Place has plenty of seating, and the staff was very friendly. Very clean, and pretty comfy inside. We ordered our drinks, water, lemonade, and horchata. Free refills, until the third refill. We looked at the menu, and saw some normal stuff on the menu for a Mexican restaurant, but a few things stuck out. The most interesting thing for me was the barbacoa grilled cheese sandwich. So I ordered that, boy, was that good. It came with a cup of beans and a big red. My wife and daughter shared the Birria taco plate, came with two tacos and the consommé that had a lot of meat. They had to order two more tacos. So, I went to the bathrooms, which were clean by the way, but the only thing I didn't like was that all the cleaning products were out in the open, on a shelf, a kids eye level and reach. We only have grandkids, so definitely watch them kiddos when they go to the bathroom. All in all, we would go back. read more

Clear pride of place, as evidences by the thorough cleaning between customers, the spotless floors, the tidy kitchen and bathrooms. The host and hostess gave us a very warm greeting and even the cleaning staff were smiling and friendly. They appear to be well-run and a good team. He enjoyed the pork chops with eggs and thin soft warm house-made corn tortillas. I very much enjoyed the scrambled eggs with chorizo, melted cheese on top and salsa verde on the side. This place is a hole in the wall and it's okay. It's not horrible. The chips and salsa are solid and service is fair. Not best place to take a group but most importantly I felt with San Antonio having so many great sit down restaurants that's 20 minutes from New Braunfels it just doesn't make sense. We've been here several times for breakfast and was never disappointed. My wife decided to eat here for her birthday. Initial service was prompt. Chips were brought with a bowl on top and the server said she'd be back with the salsa. By the time she brought the salsa (in a bottle for the table to pour into the empty bowl) the chips were finished. The server never asked to see if we needed more chips. Both plates came out and we asked if they came with tortillas. The server said these didn't. We asked to see a menu and it only says "most lunches come with rice, beans, and 2 tortillas." In addition, my enchilada plate did not come with rice and beans. In my entire life (almost 50) I have never seen a lunch plate NOT include rice and beans. My wife's plate was salty and she barely ate any of her food. After discussing with the server and the manager, both said they had some body do the menus and they were bad. We were given a "discount," but our meals still totaled $31 (2 meals, 1 lemonade, 1 water). I am NEVER going back. My wife says she'll go for breakfast but I will not join her for that. We were in town for a bit and were hungry, I mean really hungry. Our first recommended place was closed. I yelped restaurants in the area and saw this one was 5 stars. So we stopped to try it out. We walked in the front, was seated immediately. I scanned the restaurant. It wasn't full, but not empty. There were 3 tables seated plus us. We looked at the menu. There was a wide variety. I ordered a plate of soft fajita tacos with rice and beans. My husband ordered The Machete plate and we ordered nachos appetizer for my toddler. While waiting the waitress returned and asked me what kind of tacos I ordered. I told her. She advised me that they didn't serve soft tacos with beef because the meat was ground beef (picadillo) so I said Ok fine, crispy tacos then. Don't get me wrong, I love crispy tacos, I just wanted something else. The food came. The nachos were huge!!!! It was only beans and cheese nachos which was fine since it was for my toddler. The waitress bought an extra plate for my baby to eat on since the nacho plate was hot. My husband was fairly disappointed with his plate. Said it was just a huge taco. He asked for several different meats but was advised it only was served with one type of meat and his beans were cold. My plate. ....I was disappointed. The crispy tacos were okay. A very small serving of rice and beans. I normally share my rice and beans with my toddler so since she already had beans, I shared my rice with her. I basically just gave her all of my rice, since it was such a small serving. My tacos were tiny. I finished them both with like 2 bites each. My toddlers plate had more food on it than mine. Whatever. We tried it. The service was fine, no issues with the service. The bill was $40. Two plates, an appetizer, and two teas. The food was Nothing to go raving about. I ate some of my toddlers nachos because I was still hungry after my meal. My husband leaned over and whispered to me, This isn't 5 stars and laughed. I agreed. This place is great. Local dive. We have come here multiple times now. My favorite is the flautas plate. Husband prefers the green enchiladas or beef enchiladas. So reasonably priced. Well seasoned everything and the green and red sauces aren't watered down for the meek palate. True Mexican food. Don't hesitate. We pick up through the drive through. Makes me happy happy! So we went here to eat thinking well mexican food is always a good price i was craving some enchiladas and was hoping for something good well they were not good portion was small and barely any cheese and i ordered a bowl of albóndigas for my kids and they were so spicy I'm shocked the waitress didn't let me know they were spicy as we said they were for my kids and my husband got the machete plate which was good but so expensive our total bill was 50 dollars for 3 meals and drinks i juta thought the pricing was ridiculous and the waitress was not friendly at all. Great tasting, quality Mexican food served in generous portions. Mi Torito just opened in October. The menu is large serving breakfast from 6am until 11:30 and tacos for $1.99-$3.25. Open for lunch with daily specials weekdays and through dinner closing at 9pm. Staff are friendly and a little "green" but will get better as time goes. The food comes out quickly. The atmosphere is clean and bright. Today they had classic country playing overhead. Parking is sufficient and lot is entered from behind the building off Chestnut St, They are next door to City Bakery on San Antonio St. This is my second time eating here in 2 days.
