Great place to grab a drink and enjoy some late night music. The place has got some real character. The bar itself is quite small, but the musical entertainment plays in the hotel lobby so patrons can sit out there, rather than being confined to just the bar area. A nice warm fireplace sits in the lobby too. The servers are a awful and will walk right past you a thousand times without ever stopping to take your order. Thankfully the in-house bartender is much more helpful if you don't mind getting up and walking over to the bar. It paid off for me, at least. read more

Can't say that I've ever had an even remotely negative experience here at the Adobe Bar or Doc Martins. I am especially impressed at the beer wine and spirits they offer. For a small area like Taos, the Historic Taos Inn has a very impressive Wine List and Beer list (45 beers, not including draft - I counted). There is no other place who can cater to even the "finickiest" person, like the Adobe Bar can. For dinner, we sat in Adobe Bar and chit chatted amongst locals and visitors alike. We ordered dinner and had a bottle of the 2006 Nebbiolo, to which we were shocked that the staff knew what glasses to serve it in! You cant find service like that elsewhere, (Ive ordered a bottle of Chardonnay at another local "upscale" restaurant and it was serviced in a shotty little glass, with no recommendation of decantation). just with that, you know a place like the Adobe Bar, housed in a Historic building, really cares about service. If I could give this zero stars, I would. Reading through the reviews today, I wished I had read them yesterday. Our experience was so similar to that of others who reviewed the Adobe Bar. The service was painfully slow, even though the server stopped in at the table next to us twenty times before even acknowledging we were in his section also. When he finally stopped by, we asked to see the more extensive wine list. We'd looked at it earlier in the day, when we had lunch at Doc Martin's. Appreciating the list, we decided to come back later for a bottle of wine. I asked the waiter for a recommendation for a Bordeaux. He suggested we talk to the sommelier, Adam Kerr, instead. We did talk to Adam, but I doubt he's a sommelier. He pushed a bordeaux on us that I was unfamiliar with, telling us it was the best value on the list. We weren't interested in the best value, we wanted to enjoy a really good bottle of wine. After all, they do have a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for their list. Three times I told him we'd like to try it. Since they were offering it by the glass, it shouldn't have been a big deal. He ignored the request. Then I moved on and said we'd try a glass. Again, THREE times. Finally, we ran out of patience. "Okay, just bring us the bottle," we said. At this point, we'd been there forty-five minutes, still didn't have a glass of water let alone wine. The waiter reappeared before the bottle of wine did. We asked for the cheese plate, which he told us wasn't any good. Uh, okay. He recommended the roasted garlic and goat cheese. Again, okay. Just bring us SOMETHING at this point. The so-called sommelier brought the bottle to our table. His service was appalling. He struggled to cut the foil, jiggled the bottle all over the place, and essentially threw the cork on the table. Who trained this guy? I tasted, not that he asked, and it was dreadful. He scolded me and said it was a "great Bordeaux." I can tell you, if my husband and I hadn't been on a family vacation, and on a much needed date night alone, I would've refused the wine. I went with it, and am convinced it was nothing more than a server specifically told to get rid of as much of that wine as he could. It was literally the worst bottle of wine I've ever had. The worst. It was horrible, undrinkable, terrible. We asked for the wine to be decanted, trying really hard not to let this experience ruin our evening. The "sommelier" never showed his face again. We saw the waiter once or twice, but both looked as though they were actually AVOIDING our table. We asked the food runner for the check, paid it, and left, with most of the wine still in the decanter. We salvaged our evening by going across the street to ParCht. The wine, food and service was the antithesis of the Adobe Inn. It was fabulous. I don't know if Adam Kerr is a sommelier. If he is, he's first tier, and probably not certified. As an executive somm, I can say he represents the profession abhorrently, prompting me to pursue this further. In the meantime, don't bother with this place, whether you're looking for wine, water, a margarita, or food. Go ANYWHERE else in Taos. read more

We were so excited to eat at Taos inn. We have not been to Taos in several years. This has always been one of my Fav restaurants anywhere. Sadly we were disappointed. Horrendous service really detracts from the experience. We waited and waited for anyone to acknowledge us, then asked twice for water, our margaritas came with a different server having no idea which was which or what we had even ordered, a THIRD server brought our creme brulee, plunked down two forks to eat it with, and disappeared before we could ask for spoons. We knew there was no hope of seeing him again so we just used the forks. A couple came and sat at the table next to us and eventually left after not seeing a server after fifteen minutes. A server came to our table as they were walking out and said snidely, "Huh, I guess they didn't like the menu!" No, honey, they didn't like the fact that nobody was helping them! I like the Adobe Bar quite a bit. There is a very cozy vibe, and they have live music here every night. You don't even have to pay a cover! If you can snag a seat by the fireplace, do so, because it's the best spot in the house. If you are looking for a place that really exudes the spirit of the way Taos used to be, this is a great place to visit. Open mic is on Monday nights, and be sure to go see the Monkey Feeders when they play there. They are a great bar band, and lots of fun. A must-see if you're looking to experience the (rather limited) nightlife in Taos. read more

Have previously enjoyed margaritas and music there. Disappointed last night. Food was awful--old guac and sad duck quesadillas. I felt bad for server who was trying to be responsive and had to come back and tell us the Doc Martin chef said the food was just fine. Quickly telling the server she took away the dish. Make a long story short, simply thee worst service I've ever experienced it was almost comical.

Paid $19.53 for a Hendricks Martini last night. Thought it was s mistake! It was not. Wholesale cost of the bottle is roughly 10 to 12 bucks. If served at 1.5 ounces per martini one would see ten martinis per bottle. Vermouth is negligible, but an additional cost nonetheless. Retail would then be $195.30 or bottle on a 10 to twelve dollar cost. Regardless of the professionalism of the staff, this is criminal. Will NEVER frequent the Taos Inn again, in any manner, shape, or form. read more

I guess we're getting too old for this place. We have always come here on our trips to Taos. This time, man was it loud! And the music, which we normally enjoy was loud and fast! There were no seats at the bar (our preference) and no one really looked like a host so we pounced on an outside table when those people left. A very pleasant girl came and cleaned the table and said a waiter would be by to take our order, but after she passed us a couple times she just said she would do it. We ordered beers and nachos, she said happy hour still in effect so everything was on special. Beers came fairly quick, and we were happy just relaxing and watching the traffic go by. The nachos arrived and it was a huge order, enough for 4 people! It's made the way we like it, layers of chips, cheese, salsa, then another three layers, plus onions, beans, tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole! We shared a second beer and nearly finished the nachos before throwing in the towel. Happy hour price was $7! We rolled on back to the casita and skipped dinner! Phones in our pockets, we wandered around trying to find something, anything, that was open and would provide sustenance. We were just about to give up and eat car snacks for dinner when we found this place. My relief at just finding a place open was amplified greatly by my experience that evening. This is a place for people who love live music so much they are able to overlook other faults. Service is ok, atmosphere is lively. Food is good (not bad, not amazing either). Cocktails however, are not well made and are sorely overpriced. None of my cocktails came with all the ingredients listed in their descriptions - easy to tell when its something like a luxardo cherry or creme de violet (turns your drink blue, but my drink was lemon yellow!). Maybe you're thinking I'm a picky tourist. Actually, I'm a picky local, and especially picky when I'm forking out $15+ a drink. $19 for a "Downtown Taos"! That's expensive for even NYC, LA, or Las Vegas. Not sure how they can peg themselves as the living room of Taos with these prices. Want a better experience? For the price of three drinks just go get a bottle of bourbon, a bottle of vermouth, and a jar of luxardo cherries. The Adobe Bar is my favorite place to have a beverage, some good food AND for enjoying live music in Taos. They have a music performer every night of the year and there is never a cover charge---they support my local friends who are musicians---but many bands are on tour from other states and love to play there. I think they have the best margaritas in Taos. They have a large wine selection and always a nice choice of micro brews on tap and bottles.Its called the "Living room of Taos" for a reason. Disappointed last night, Christmas Eve, went to Adobe about 615 for some food and a margarita, listen to a little music. They've replaced the couch area with tables and somehow managed to have even less seating. Lost the back ledge/cushioned area that was great place to listen, drink and meet people, and now no stools so that's 4 less seats on top of it. Looks like the tables were just removed from the area closer to the band. In all I'm guessing there's 12-15 less seats than before and there's never been enough as it is. Only had one bartender. Service never been great here but I waited quite a while by the bar until it became clear it was going to be a really long time to get a drink. There were 3 wait staff waiting for the tender and 3 of us waiting behind the people seated at the bar weren't even on the radar. Bartender was working hard but there's only so much he could do by himself. If there'd been a bit more seating I would have sat and given it more time. Been coming here for decades and am used to the slow service and standing room only doesn't bother me, but this was not very busy compared to what I've seen in the past.
