This place is only open when an event is happening, at least for now. I went to see a concert and it was outside so the staff let you bring in your own chairs but there are no in and out privileges so once you go in you can't leave and come back in. The staff doing the security checks didn't seem like they were paying much attention to what they were doing. Only one person was using the metal detecting wand so it took a little while to get to everyone in line, but I saw a few people walk around this guy and go straight to the other staff member who was scanning the tickets at the entrance. I assumed they were other staff or crew for the bands but nope, there were attendees like everyone else. Don't know why the other security staff just let them walk past. Sometimes the security guy vaguely waved the wand in someone's general direction without really checking and that was good enough, I guess. The security guy waved the metal detector wand around me and nothing seemed out of the ordinary but then the guy jammed the wand into my crotch. I was startled but he said I could proceed. I bet he wasn't even looking where he was pointing the wand. I thought about getting something to eat but the menu only had limited offerings which were a chili dog, Indian taco, frito pie, fries, and ice cream sandwiches. The carnival food didn't appeal to me so I settled for an $8 drink during my time at the concert. Outside food and drink are not allowed here. The venue has two outdoor stages, the big dome-shaped one in the back and a smaller platform off to the side by the entrance. There are plastic tables and chairs placed around the area and some metal tables and chairs on the patio under the shade structure. There was a tent off to the side selling the same items that were offered inside but out here you had to pick up your food from a small window farther along the building's exterior. I found it kind of funny that there was a designated smoking section by the fence but there were plenty of people smoking all around the area. It was raining during the concert but that didn't bother me or anyone else as it looked like almost everyone brought umbrellas and rain gear. I may visit again if there is another concert I want to see taking place here. read more

I bet this spot gets massive crowds on the weekend nights. I stopped in in the afternoon on a Sunday though. There was a few other people that must have decided that a beer in the 105 heat was the way to go. I pulled up to a sharp looking building. I could see they had a large outdoor area with a bandshell even, so they must have bigger activities now and then. The inside was an expansive place. All the beer making equipment was right there behind the bar area. I got a flight from the gal there. She tried to be friendly, but it wasn't totally in her nature. She found time to complain about Taos and the area and how Santa Fe is just as bad. The negative vibes was a turnoff but she probably won't even be working there by the time you read this review. The beers were great! I could have gone for a pilsner but that wasn't one of their current offerings. I checked out he merch a little afterwards then was down the road. What a neat place. We drove past on the way to our Air BnB and decided we definitely needed to stop in before we left. The outside is super cool, and is exactly what I would expect from something known as the "Mothership." I'm not really sure how to rate the experience, because The beer itself was excellent. We shared a flight of six four oz. pours, and they were all great. My personal favorite was the German IPA. You could choose which ones you wanted by writing them down, one through six, on a piece of paper, which you then gave to the person serving you. They gave that paper back with the flight to keep things labeled, which I though was a seriously efficient process! The experience was not as great. We were a little confused how it worked, and the staff was not very warm or friendly while explaining it to my confused self. We also didn't see the beer list or description anywhere except behind the bar, and it was hard to see with people waiting in front of the bar, the staff behind it, and my bad eyesight. There also was very little seating, though it looked like they were reserving open floor space for dancing since a band was setting up. We were able to share a table with someone else, so it all worked out, it was just a little uncomfortable because we wanted to talk and our table partner was trying to read a book. read more

Love this place for an intimate music venue. They are mostly a brewery, but also have food, and they have a full service coffee truck. The grounds are like a rambling garden, with pathways leading to fire pits and intimate seating areas. There's copious outdoor seating, much of which is shaded, and there is an indoor and an outdoor stage. Even with hundreds of people attending the concert, I somehow never waited in line for a restroom. Quick shoutout to the brewery's T-shirt's... they're amazeballs. This is another one of those Taos must-dos. (TMB now has a tap room in Taos proper, but make the trip out to this vast complex!) You can see the artistically imagined quonset hut from the highway. Pull in to see all the venues. (The day we were there, they were actually getting ready to host an event---I think a wedding---in event tents set up in the back.) This is a great place to chat and meet the locals. If weather permits, definitely sit outside so you can admire the views. There's a stage inside and one funky one outside for lots of musical events. Open mic night is supposed to be fun as well. Your order food and beverage inside and then the food is delivered to your table. I remember a bit more variety on the menu from a previous trip (about two years ago) but now it's mostly tacos. But, what tacos these are. I did the veggie ones with lime creme and they were delicious!!!! We also tried the chicken tacos. Awesome as well. It's weird that they come with fries, but whatever. They were good as well. Tastings are available if you ask. It's a great spot to spend the afternoon. (Dog friendly if on leashes.) Go hike the rim at the gorge and come back here to relax and refresh! Aside: Behind the brewery campus, it looks like there will be vintage camping available---air streams and other retro campers were being set up with permanent decks---all facing the majestic view. read more

Good spot to hear live music. The place is a large Quonset hut, and metal at that. Somehow they made the sound work. Seems like they have a wood dance floor, which may help. I can't speak about the food because the kitchen closed just as we decided to eat something. Our friends had cold adult beverages with no complaints, but my wife and I were not drinking that evening, so I can't say anything about that either. They had a grateful dead tribute band this evening. The opening act was very entertaining. I'm not into the dead head stuff, but our friends loved it! We are staying next door at Hotel Luna Mystica and stopped in while we waited to check-in for our stay. We arrived just when happy hour (hoppy hour, they dubbed it) started. Since they don't have a liquor license, they offered an agave wine margarita. I ordered that and my husband had a blood orange drink (I can't remember the name). We ordered chips & salsa (just $1 during hoppy hour - I posted a pic of that menu for reference for other prices), and a taco dish. That came with two tacos and fries. The tacos were okay(I am guessing cooked in a crockpot because they were fairly greasy), but the fries were really good! We will be back to see what their dinner menu has to offer! The staff was polite and prompt and they have glasses setting out with a free water tap. There are service dogs welcome, but pets are only welcome on the patio. The music was reasonably loud (although we went at 3 pm - and saw they had a mega stage there for live performances). They had a TV with National Geographic playing which seemed fitting for Taos. Decent brewery in the middle of nowhere. In all honesty I stopped here in the middle of the day on a Friday when it was empty so I'm not sure I got the full experience. My boyfriend and I were staying at the Hotel Luna Mystica and decided to try this for happy hour. We were not disappointed! Beers were $3 (as long as they were below 6% alcohol- $4 if over). I stopped by here this past Thursday with my wife. We happened to pass by Taos Mesa Brewing while on our way to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and so decided to stop on the way back. This brewery is massive whenever you consider both their inside and outside seating. Even though we didn't go outside, we could see plenty of seating and open space, a lot of art as well as a place for bands to play. The inside was similar with a bar on one side, then some seating before open space and a stage on the other. Since it was right before Halloween the bar here was decorated with white and orange pumpkins as well as skulls. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. They were 4 oz pours and I could choose between 4-6 different beers at 1.50 a pour. Pretty reasonable if you ask me! Anyways I went with the Rosetta Probe Comet Smash IPA, session IPA, Pale Ale, Jonesy's Cross Eye rye, Dr. Okto (Octoberfest) and How Now Brown. Then my wife and I also decided to split a basket of sweet potato fries. The fries here were up in no time at all and were pretty decent. I had a few that probably could have been cooked a little longer but the ones that were cooked well had a nice flavor. I especially appreciated the larger than usual granules of salt on the fries. All of the beers were good representations of their styles with my favorites being the Smash IPA and Rye with my least favorite being the Dr. Okto, not that it was bad. What a super fun place! In a converted airplane hanger next to the airport, this beer hall is definitely one of a kind. We were staying across the road at Hotel Luna Mystica and this was a perfect dinner and drinks spot. They have a great space and a lot of beers and food to choose from. As a vegetarian, I appreciated that there were a lot of options for me as well as my non-veg counterpart. We were able to walk over here, which is a huge draw, as was their awesome happy hour, which featured a bunch of highlights from the menu from $1-$3. I had the conspiracy burger as a veggie burger and it was GREAT! so much flavor and the green Chile was a huge kick of flavor. I loved the fries and the chips and salsa had a smoky, homemade flavor. Everything we ate was great, but for us the standout was the kolsch beer. So delicious, probably the best we tried on this trip, and unfortunately at this time only sold in this location! As it was Monday night they had a casual DJ, ping pong and were supposed to have karaoke which didn't happen, maybe because the bar wasn't super full. Super legit brews. Went to both the mothership (while out in the area check out the Rio Grande) and the Taproom in Taos proper. A lot of beers on tap at both places. Over a third are IPAs if not more. The staffs at both places are cool and friendly. The food looks good although I have not partaken. It is great that almost every destination town in the U.S. has at least one craft brewery. Often more. Taos Mesa is definitely a quality player. I do wish they'd free up a couple of their taps for some Belgian styles. Charge more if you have to compensate for the extra time it takes to ferment and age. read more

I was excited to be staying in an RV park right next door to a brewery. I was quickly persuaded to never return to this place. I did enjoy the Black Widow Stout but the rest of the beers were just OK. We were there on a Friday afternoon with a group of people (not nearly enough to overwhelm the staff) and were treated as if we were putting the employees out of their way. You can't have average tasting beers and then have staff that could care less about the customers. Please train your staff how to smile, greet a customer, listen to their order and thank them. It isn't that hard. I'll drink Budweiser before I step foot back in this place and that isn't about to happen any time soon. read more

This review is tempered by declining recent experiences in an establishment that had once held so much promise. First off, I love the offbeat 'Mesa-mode' aesthetic that merges a 'Mad Max/Post Apocalyptic 'Alt' style into an epically great landscape... It's an American original! But I've gotta ask, 'where's the love??' TMB opened 3 years ago with imaginative food offerings, a generous selection of 'house' and regional craft brew that matched the expansive landscape and alt architecture, transcending the usual brewpub fare. That trajectory continued to rise thru the past year but this year hasn't been kind; gone is patio table service of any kind, along with at least 75% of the more interesting menu items. Today's choices essentially are mediocre burgers and fries (not cooked to order), and a shockingly limited selection of beers that today didn't include anything approaching an IPA! I left disgusted and hop deprived, pulling a Marble IPA out of the fridge at home to temper my disappointment. My three stars are generous; partly because I hope they can turn around what was once delightfully unique, but likely because of the Marble IPA that's taken the edge off my visit this afternoon... What I liked most about this place was the space and the exterior look. It seems to have been built in an old airplane hangar and is in a prime location just next to the Gorge bridge and with a 360 degree view of the surrounding area. It's really beautiful. The interior has a big stage and the brewery hosts a lot of great musical events. In the two days before our visit there were cool reggae acts that I would have liked to check out. This is one thing I wish more breweries had: big stages and great live performances. Now, I know Marble has their stage and music, but it gets so damn crowded and the acts are usually small-time and of the folk strain. But still, being in Albuquerque, I always feel crammed in any brewery I'm in. I WANT MORE SPACE! Anyhow, Taos Mesa Brewing has that space. Outdoors is a patio that will seat about fifty and then beyond that is a huge open space where I suppose people can stand around, toss beanbags and otherwise find trouble while sipping beers. But, I wasn't so enthused with the service and beers. First off, our waiter disappeared after bringing me a flight of beers, thus ensuring that we couldn't put in the order of food we wanted. I thought maybe the guy was just a slacker, but then some other waitress came out and tended other tables and then when I went in to use the bathroom I saw our guy waiting tables inside as well. So it seemed there was either some confusion or the two waiters were overstretched, but either way our service suffered as a result. On to the beers: The star is the Hopper IPA. It's got a good hoppy nose and a blend of citrusy, floral flavors and is quite easy-drinking. I sipped one down a day later at Five Star Burger and was shocked how quickly I finished it. Lunch Pale Ale- Decent, but lacking a strong flavor profile. Kolsch 45- This was not at all enjoyable and I almost feel I got a bad one. The beer itself seemed confused. Great Scot Scottish- This one was one of the more enjoyable of the beers. It had a good malty nose and a sweet bready taste to it. I could have ordered a pint of this if the waiter wasn't slacking. Superstitious Stout- Pretty plain and I felt the body lacked. Knight Rider Imperial Stout- Ok, so this one was really peculiar to me. First of all, the nose was hoppy!!! What? A hoppy Imperial Stout? Yup, that's exactly what it was. If it had been called a black IPA I probably would have enjoyed it more because that's what it tasted like. But I thought I was getting a big Imperial Stout so the hoppy confusion threw me off. Wheeler Peak Wheat- This wasn't bad. Easy-drinking wheat. Cross-Eyed Rye-Unfortunately, I didn't take notes, but I remember enjoying this a bit more than others. Overall, the beers were a mix of decent and good with a couple odd or bad apples that threw me off. Bottom line, go with the Hopper IPA and you'll be safe and enjoy this place. read more

Fantastic! The service is slow-paced, but that's a part of the charm of this place. This isn't Gordon Beirsch or another chain brewery with giant screens everywhere showing sports and offering basic bar food. The beers are excellent and worth the visit alone, but the food and laid back atmosphere make the brewery a must if you're in Taos. The staff are knowledgeable, and though busy multitasking, are friendly and great at making suggestions. The food is superb: fresh, thoughtful, locally sourced, and doesn't gratuitously smother everything in green chilies. The Taos cheese steak is a real treat, and my wife still brings up their house made salad dressings. If you are from Taos, or just visiting, this is one of the best places to grab a drink or a meal. Where to begin . . . let's start with their "dog policy". Every time I am there people have dogs inside. I am not talking about a dog or two, but many many dogs. They serve food there. Last night, a friend brought their dog (who was being held) because there are ALWAYS dogs all over the place, and the manager told them he had to leave. When she asked him why the other dogs were allowed, he told her that they were service dogs. I call Bullshit!!! Not one had a service coat or any indication. They were Taos mutts. They were friends of bartender or (regulars). Methinks that they shouldn't be able to have any dogs inside if only some are allowed. Even after they drove their dog home there were more people allowed their dogs inside. BS! Second. The beer prices. How do they get away with charging $6 a pint? Also, their high alcohol content beers are served in 10 oz. glasses and the prices were raised by $2. So now it's $8 for 10oz. They should choose. Either put it in a small glass or raise the price, but not both. The workers there are rude as hell. The music they have there is a terrible representation of the people who live in Taos. Music at the Mothership? Gimme a break! Hippy bullshit and more hippy bullshit. I guess their standard is "can a dreadlocked moon child light a hula hoop on fire to this music?" Puke. The beer was yummy and cold. The tacos were cold and sad. This place also felt like a major hippie hangout place. Nothing wrong with if you are I'm just sayin. They have a stage for local bands to play at and an outside patio. Like the other reviewers mentioned. Dogs are everywhere like I love me some dogs but come on this is a good establishment. This is a very nice brew pub that's housed inside a shiny new aircraft hanger. The building itself sits on a large flat piece of land that appears to be in the middle of nowhere (it's on a mesa like its name indicates). I was hoping to see a few airplanes on the lot but supposedly the building was built to be a brewery from day one. So bummer, no airport. Outside there is a nice large patio and stage for musical acts during the summer months. On the night I visited a reggae band was setting up to play but unfortunately I had to leave before they ever took stage. However the whole place seemed like a very cool place to hear music. Every table was occupied by patrons. I hear they get a loyal following for their musical acts. The Kolsch 45 beer was great. I've had the real thing, Kolsch beer, in Cologne Germany and I didn't like it over there. Taos Mesa's version was much better and more palatable to my taste. My bartender was terrific too. The only downside, and it's really quite minor, is that everything seemed a slight bit too polished. Supposedly the place is owned by a lawyer, a developer, a music man, and a brewer.... so it sort of has a corporate look to it. But it all comes together nicely and the place seems to be big hit with the locals. At least everyone seemed to be local when I visited (myself being the token tourist).
