Best New Mexican Breakfast in Town! Absolutely incredible experience at Legacy Cafe! We came for breakfast and left completely blown away. I had the red chili pork tamales plate with scrambled eggs - perfection on a plate! My partner got the baked egg plate with green chili and couldn't stop raving about it. Jake is hands down the most welcoming host you'll meet, AND he makes a seriously mean latte. Chef Simon's talent shines through in every bite - you can tell you're eating food made by someone who truly knows their craft. Good location at the corner of McCarthy plaza and Taos Plaza. Breakfast menu had a variety of plates featuring New Mexican tamales, pinto beans and eggs. Order at the counter and a smiling server brings your loaded plates. Lots of coffee drink options. Prices very good. The inside is decorated with old signs and photos from Taos history. The food at the legacy cafe was fantastic. My daughter had the Mac and cheese and she said it was the best tasting she has ever had. My wife had the panini build your own panini turkey and smoked Gouda and the garden salad which was made well and tasted good. Next was my spinach salad with chicken. The chicken was seasoned well and the salad was fresh and delightful. The service was good but not exceptional but they were nice. The ambiance was old school coffee shop and antique store. Second visit to Legacy Cafe. Equally as good as my first visit. This time with wife and friends. I had the green chili stew- served hot and spicy - delicious! Also an avacado BLT on grilled sourdough. Very tasty. Karen had a Italian sausage green chili and mushroom flatbread and we both liked it. We had a chance to catch up with the owners and say "hi". While at Legacy Cafe we had great food and the service was awesome. Our server was Jake--he showed us so much kindness and he was quick with things, making us feel at home in this new state. We found this place on Google. It is a newly opened (July 2024) counter service cafe in the central plaza area. The owners have had family in Taos since 1904. Great decor with lots of historically interesting pieces. We came at the end of the day on Saturday so they were out of some options. Nonetheless the service was excellent. The food was very good - they offered paninis, flatbreads and salads and some other cafe staples. Good spot for a casual meal with a fun vibe. The owner was also very nice to us. read more

My breakfast was excellent. The extremely kind staff gave me the wifi password and let me do homework while continuously bringing me cream for my coffee. The whole staff was pleasant and efficient. The whole ambiance was keeping with the local decor, including pictures on the walls. Taos had a ton of culture and this place really embraced it. Ordered an Avo BLT at 1:55p today. At 2:25p I went I inside and asked for a refund as they had not brought it to me yet. NOTE: Only the owners were in the cafe... not another soul was in there. The time it takes to make a blt when no one is in the restaurant should be about 5 minutes tops. My dog was not allowed inside (just for ordering) but the owners could have their two dogs inside with them while they ate. The restaurant was thick with smoke from what smelled like burnt bacon. This was my second time at the Legacy and it's so good. I feel lucky that there's a walkable yummy restaurant near my job now. Taos is kinda lacking in consistency and good service, but not the legacy cafe! Our server Angel was very kind and got my picky order perfect. The sandwiches are so delicious. I got a build your own panini and my husband got a Ruben. It was so delicious. The reason we even went here the first time is because I could smell the bacon cooking when we walked down the street and the smell drew us in hahaha. Next up, the egg and bacon sandwich on an English muffin. It's a simple dish, but their chef made it where it felt like a gourmet treat. And my personal favorite? The Philly cheesesteak. Holy cow. Had lunch here today with friends. Small place, cutely decorated. The staff was welcoming & the owner stopped by our table for a pleasant chat. We ordered a chili dog, the flatbread pizza, beef sliders & the frito salad. Two meals arrived promptly, then a long wait for the third, followed by a long wait for the fourth meal. Two of us had finished before the last dish was even served. Flatbread definitely the best thing. Chili dog was mediocre. The beef sliders were terrible -- a piece of way overcooked and dry beef of some kind on a slider roll topped with a jalapeño slice. I saw someone else eating a French dip & the beef looked just as inedible. The salad was ok: lettuce & tomato with dressing on top of a handful of fritos. All in all, a very disappointing lunch. IMHO, they need to pay a lot more attention to the quality of their food to ensure a better dining experience. read more

While traveling I had breakfast at Legacy Cafe. I ordered food and was charged for it, then told they didn't have what I ordered. I was told they canceled the charge for the order. I replaced an order and was charged for the second order as well. When checking my credit card account when I went home I saw there were two charges and no refund. I called the restaurant several times and was assured I would get a return call. Never happened. in spite of their assurances that they take this seriously. read more

The bride I ate at the Legacy Café today and the experience was positively superb. We had thought about dining elsewhere on the square but all like the same and thought we'd give it a try. We're so glad we did. We each ordered a Panini: a ham and salami with smoked Gouda for the bride and a roast beef and pastrami with pepper jack for me. They were perfectly done beautifully griddled, and a good size. We wash them down with a couple of organic lemonades which were tart tasty and had a great mouth. The restaurant is really spectacular. There has been so much attention paid too small details. The pictures, the memorabilia, the wall mural, the chairs and the tables, the lighting - All of it comes together just to give you the feel of a place that's been there for a long time and as part of the history. We stopped by for a late lunch and the service was exquisite. Great people - friendly and accommodating personally oriented for customer service. I don't know you could've asked for more. Waited over 45 mins for the smallest possible portion of a "yogurt fruit and granola bowl" (with no fruit btw) and a "breakfast sandwich" (that looked like something I could make at home in 3 mins with no effort), overall a complete waste of time and when I ask why our portions and food is so terrible for how long we waited, the staff has the gall to try and argue with us.
