Food quality was excellent--we had the filet mignon and steak frites, both cooked perfectly, along with a nice local wine. Appetizers and desserts were just as strong. Disappointing experience at Medley. My wife's salad tasted like it came straight from a bag. The lamb chops had a cumin raisin sauce that was overly cloying and sweet. I ordered a tuna tostada and mac and cheese and asked the server if I was ordering too much. I filled up almost immediately and was forced to throw away a ton of food because we were leaving the next day. This is my fault and not the responsibility of the server, but I would have liked more honesty on her part. This was the most expensive meal we had in Taos and not worth it. read more

The food was very tasty, the drinks satisfied us, the restaurant was comfortable, prices were reasonable and the service was outstanding! On the recommendation of our lodge in Taos, we enjoyed a light meal at Medley. The restaurant side is reservation only but the bar dining is walk in. That's more our speed anyhow. The Bosque Elephants on Parade cherry beer and Tractor Brewing Cider hit the spot. We shared falafel with corn relish and beet hummus. Yummy. Our waitress was delightful and we visited about her being a potter and she invited us to she her studio the next day. Everyone in there was chatting and seeming to have a great time. Bar dining area or fancy dining room, We opted for the bar, it was packed already at 5.45 but we snagged two seats. Baby Kale Ceasar Salad (no romaine) with extra anchovies was delicious. Tuna Tartare Tostad with cucumber, red onion, avocado, sesame, sriracha, cilantro - delicious. Pommes Frites, special mention because it is so hard to find pommes frites in USA let alone really good ones, these were perfect shoestring. The portion sizes were huge and 2 of us spit everything and were full....but no so full we did not attack the Pear and Hazelnut desert with Chantilly hazelnut cream. Whilst delicious it felt a little overpriced at $15. When I make this at home I triple down on that chantilly cream. We had a couple Manhattens and Gimlets which were Ok in glasses that were a little on the small side. Bartender was extremely busy but still managed to humor our questions and comments. Personally I don't like to see any staff rushing around at this speed, it is unsettling as a client. Overall our bill was $103.74 pre-tip. More than we intended to spend at Happy Hour but we felt it was worth it. Shoutout one more time for those pommes frites. read more

What a disappointment. I was so looking forward to trying this place since I've never been. However rather than it being a pleasant and memorable experience it turned out to be a total disaster, a nightmare. One we asked for a table they said it would be 15 mins when clearly there were two tables open which I was told were not reserved. So we proceeded to go to the bar. They had one chair available so I sat and proceeded to order a drink for myself and my friend which did not have a chair. In a very rude and obnoxious way the bartender said they cannot serve people who are standing. I said pull up a chair he said no. I said fine I will order one for myself and he will not. Again he said he can't serve people that are standing although I was sitting. So I went back the host which was as lost and ignorant as anyone can be. I requested to speak to a manager. She said she'd get one. No one came no one showed up but a woman looking very unprofessional in her attire. She just went to the stand and said nothing for 5 mins. She finally said "are you waiting for a table?" lol not hello I'm the manager how may I help. I explained the situation. She said we would still have to wait because the kitchen is behind. I said can we sit in one of the empty tables available she said no I said why she said because of the kitchen delay. I said I won't order food only a drink. I just want my friend to be able to enjoy one also so can we just sit? Finally after giving it much thought which seemed quite comical she said yes. We sat ourselves. The reason I explain this situation is simple. I do not want any tourists or people unfamiliar with this location to go through want we went through. Not only was it embarrassing but it was plain prejudice and extremely racist. Medley you have the worst customer service I've ever experienced. No understanding of the word courtesy and are clueless when handling a very simple situation. The shameful way of how you treated me and my friend is unacceptable. I don't know if it was because I was dark skinned or simply because it's that poorly run. But most certainly had to share this horrendous and disgusting experience I had at Medley. 0 Stars not recommended at all! Had dinner tonight at Medley in El Prado just 10 minutes North of Taos. What a beautiful setting, great ambiance and our server Skylar and the rest of the team waiting on us were super personable, knowledgeable and efficient! We had the carrot tomato bisque, the creamy green chile chicken enchilada soup ( oh so good!), the cheese platter with various cheeses, sliced fruit, homemade jam, and apple butter with grilled baguette, and the super delicious lamb chops with that golden raisin gastrique, cumin and crispy leeks! For dessert, the Mexican chocolate flourless lava cake with cinnamon ice cream! What an incredible unforgettable meal we had! I'm so glad we picked this place due to the awesome reviews this establishment got in Yelp. It was the perfect evening! Earlier that afternoon we had driven up 2-1/2 hours from Rio Rancho to spend the day and overnight in Taos for our anniversary. We had several recommendations for Medley during our week in Taos. Food and service was very good. The ambiance and vibe was perfect for this area outside of Taos. We did find one thing a little strange, thus the 4 stars. We arrived early and thought we would have a glass of wine before going to our table. The bar had no seats available, but there were several tall-top tables. The hostess said we could not sit there and the only seats were "over there and not too good". So we went to our table. It was early and we were the only people in the dining room. Not the ideal situation for a glass of wine. We told the waiter and took he us back to the bar area to see what he could do. Fortunately, the bar had two seats available. All was good. Speaking of the waiter, he did a great job and we enjoyed a good meal. Not sure what was up with the hostess. I'm local and have been to Medley many times. I always recommend it because the food is so consistently delicious. My favorites include, all fish dishes, salmon especially, Brussels Sprouts, all vegetable offerings, all beef plates. The meat courses are always juicy and cooked to perfection. Food is often layered, like mashed potatoes under the main course. Desserts are all wonderful and are they even have something sweet for someone who is already full! Service is excellent, personable and professional. I've known this restaurant building through previous various food styles and owners, when the decor and ambience were relatively uninspired. However, these owners have made it very attractive and inviting with lighting, furniture and southwestern style. You just can't go wrong. read more

On a recommendation from a local, we went "out of the city" to dine at Medley tonight. So glad we did, it was great, worthy of the praise online! Aaron was our waiter, he did a great job... thanks Aaron... attentive but not intrusive! We started with cocktails of course, a Tanqueray martini, very good, and we swapped out a lesser cocktail for the Mesa Breeze. Cocktails were good! On the menu, we started with the tomato and peach soup and the crispy crab wontons... the soup was good, not the flavor explosion we expected, and the crab wontons were what you'd get at your neighborhood Chinese restaurant... good but not great... not a knock against Medley, they were just average... Up next we had the lamb chops! Now we're talking... we paid to have the extra chop added to the order (we got two a piece), and they were off the charts good! We also had the white shrimp small plate which was divine... yum! We discussed just having more chops to end the meal, but we decided against that... tempting as it was! We opted for the Dorado entree, which was delicious. The fish was a bit over cooked and dry, but the other parts of the dish evened that out. It was good! For dessert we opted for the profiterole trio... which was delicious! A cool thing about Medley is that they had an afillated wine shop next door. You can go there and pick your wine and it will be delivered to your table with a modest corkage fee... very nice! We had a nice white from France which was a great value and delicious! Had a great meal and experience at medley. Our server, Nieve, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, offering some good recommendations. Although it took a while for the cocktails to arrive, they were creative and well-crafted. Plus, we weren't in a rush, and they didn't appear to be either! We appreciated being allowed a leisurely pace, even though we were their last table of the night. We ordered the ahi tuna tostada, which is a must-order dish! It was delicious and very fresh. We also had the kale Caesar--the only change I would make is adding a couple of extra anchovies, because I like white anchovies. The lamb chops were also well seasoned and perfectly cooked. By this point, we could have stopped, but we had also ordered the tonkatsu and the trout. We knew the tonkatsu would travel, so we concentrated on eating the trout. The fish was very moist and yummy. My partner said it was some of the best trout he's ever had! The tonkatsu was presented in a more traditional manner with appropriate accompaniments and was also delicious. We were in Taos for just a couple of days and decided to take the advice of a friend and have dinner at Medley. We are so glad that we did! We arrived without reservations around 4:30 and were fortunate to get a table. We were not quite sure what to expect as far as cuisine but were delighted to find a succinct menu that was perfect for the two of us. We started with the tomato and pumpkin soup, which was fabulous. We shared a nice bread plate and he ordered the grilled salmon while I enjoyed the steak frites. Portions were perfect and service was outstanding. They need to teach their servers with the meaning of fire code is, and that more than five people can sit at one table without it affecting that instead of telling someone to leave! They're extremely rude to children so if you don't want them there post no children! I know how hard it is to get good help but maybe better training would help! read more

Exceptional is the one word to describe Medley. Were in Taos to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and the hotel where we were staying suggested Medley and a 2nd choice for birthday dinner. She chose Medley and sure we made the correct decision. She had ocean trout and I had the bay scallop scampi, both meals were exceptional and birthday dessert was chocolate lava cake, truly cherry on top. Our server was Chris who was helpful in making selections and very attentive. Food was so good that after spending the following day in Santa Fe, we returned to Medley and had dinner in the bar this time, again wonderful meal and experience. Even though the kitchen was closing at 9 pm (Oh Em Gee - 10 minutes!), staff was kind enough to feed us b/c we had one crazy-ass long day! Friend and I ordered cocktails - signature Medley Marg which is spicy b/c of cumin salt & Watermelon Marg. I thought my cocktail would be totally sweet, not realizing it features habanero AND jalapeño. Yowza! Bartender kindly topped it off w/ more sweet watermelon juice. Hit the spot. My dinner featured a melange of Pan-Seared Wild Bay Scallops on a sweet potato puree bed w/ broccolini. Friend ordered Tacos of the Day - Sword Fish - and the Simple Arugula Salad. Went with my Sales Team while visiting Taos. They have a full bar and the food was very good. We started with several appetizers: The Bread Plate, Crispy Truffle Fries with Aioli, Brussel Sprouts w/Parmesian & Bacon and Sushi Grade Tuna Ahi Tartare on Tostada. All were really good! I had the Braised Beef Short Rib w/Garlic Mash (HUGE!) and my team had the Grilled Scottish Salmon and Pasta Schiaffoni. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and our Server - Jupiter, was awesome! Medley mucked up our reservation but then wouldn't accommodate us in their restaurant. The manager, who was rude and condescending, said they'd place us on the wait list for the bar, but only when we arrived. After a long drive and no alternative we turned up and had a short wait to get a table in the bar area. Ironically, the restaurant was dead and empty while the bar was hopping. They had a decent happy hour menu. We also sampled a number of dishes from the main menu. The black bean soup was the only decent dish. The arugula salad was dull, as others have mentioned. The baby cauliflower was greasy and they'd used cheap oils. The stuffed eggplant included an ingredient that I was allergic to, which wasn't listed clearly on the menu. Everything was totally overpriced. Finally, they added a hidden charge after we'd received our check. We wouldn't come here again and don't recommend this place. We headed to Medley to meet some friends to celebrate a birthday in the wine bar. Very casual, people in and out. We had called ahead and was told bar was first come first serve and also tables next to bar. Well apparently the patron standing in front of you is not good enough for the patron that might walk in. Could not sit at bar in case a solo came in. Needed 10 seats, but we were only allowed 2 tables of 4 and could not pull up chairs or stand. Some went outside so we couldn't even be together. A spreadsheet was needed for all the rules. Left and the next place was awesome. They really don't want your business. read more

Went on a Tuesday night as a pair and had no problem getting seated. Tables are spaced nicely so that you don't feel cramped and it's not too loud for conversation. Food was delicious. Delicious and oh so flavorful! I mean between the sushi grade ahi tuna tartare tostada, cucumber, red onion, avocado, sesame, sriracha, and cilantro it was perfect. For my main course, I actually ordered the burger and added parmesan and truffle fries. I think I got the burger because it came topped with pulled pork! Yes - the menu described it as "burger, grass fed, pulled pork, smoked onion bbq, cheddar, baby kale, and aioli." Yes, it was as good as it sounds. My friend got the char (pan-seared arctic char, grilled asparagus, parsnip purée, golden raisin-pine nut brown butter, and tarragon). We both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. I must have worn my stretchy pants because we somehow also ordered the lemon cream dessert. When a restaurant has an executive pastry chef, you must order dessert. I'm certain we didn't finish it but do note it was delightful. I would absolutely recommend Medley for anyone passing through or staying in the Taos, NM area. Definitely the best dining experience I had while out in New Mexico. I can understand why this spot has won numerous awards and is hard to get a reservation at. We took a gamble and came without one but later at night around 8pm. Largely because none of our cellphones were working strong enough to get a signal to even make a phone call. The bar area is a little bit cozier and a popular area to dine in. However, we were seated in the main dining area which has a modern approach and feel to it with the artwork and teal blue chairs. I had both a hazelnut beer and later a spicy pineapple margarita. Both were really delicious and the margarita definitely had a strong kick to it in a pleasant way. Was seriously tempted by the chocolate and passion cocktail but I'm always a little iffy on mezcal drinks. We split for the table the bread plate which is $4 extra but it's freshly made ciabatta with whipped butter and sea salt. Split as well the sushi grade ahi tuna tartare tostada. This was life. I'm glad it went unnoticed with the exception of myself and someone else. Because I could eat like 20 of these. Decent amount of tuna. Great flavors. Really outstanding dish. For my main I went with the steak frites with a peppercorn sauce and side of aioli. Perfectly cooked. Both sauces were fantastic. Absolute heaping amount of the most perfect and decadent french fries. I haven't had a steak this good seriously since probably going to Boucherie in New York. A plus plus. My boyfriend went with the Lamb Bolognese Bucatini and while his dish was good (the eggplant puree on the bottom is unique) I know he was insanely jealous of mine.
