Our travel companions happened upon Medley and tried to get a table their first night in Taos (a Wednesday), but they were booked. Solid. No option for take out, either. They asked if there were any openings for reservations, and turns out someone had just cancelled for Saturday night - so they snagged the table and I'm so happy they did. This place is for real.
We arrived to the cutest ambiance - chairs around heat lamps, cozy corners and individual greenhouses for parties of up to 4. COVID compliant and also nice and intimate. I didn't get to check out the inside, but I'm sure it was just as welcoming. The staff was very conscientious, courteous and professional, truly top notch service. Inside our greenhouse was a portable heater that we could adjust as needed (it got toasty in there!) and a call button if we needed attention outside of the times food/drinks were delivered.
As for drinks, among our group we had the manhattan, the raspberry-green chile mule, a dry martini and a glass of the house red. Outside of COVID times, we would have likely done a bit more sharing, but we were being on the safe side, even though 3/4 of us were vaccinated. But all said drinks hit the spot.
The food was the real star of the show. Everything sounded so good. I got the super green salad, which was GINORMOUS, and quickly realized I'm glad I stuck with the small plate of NZ lamb chops to accompany it. I also ordered the mac & cheese for the table; it was so rich, and so hot, that I couldn't have eaten it myself. I picked the chiles out but there was still a lot of heat. I am admittedly a wimp but felt had been building some tolerance over the years. Cue ego check.
My partner got the clam chowder. I opted not to try it for 2 reasons: the spice and also I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to my clam chowder, though can 100% appreciate the local take. He thought it was amazing. And hot. He also had the NM shepherd's pie, which was also GINORMOUS and also hot. Are you noticing a theme? Our table mates had the chowder, the pumpkin bisque (which I did dip a spoon into - it tasted like fall in your mouth), the shepherd's pie and the scottish salmon - all divine. We were pretty hungry upon arrival and had been eyeing desserts, but after our plates were served we all ended up with to-go bags.
Portions are large, and the quality is outstanding. We walked out of there at around $100/couple. For food that good, and drinks all around, I felt it was a bargain, especially when you consider we spent around $50 for beers and pizza at another (also very good) place in town. I cannot wait to go back to Medley the next time we are in Taos, whenever that may be! It'll be the first thing we reserve. read more
