This store is a life saver!…read more We are contractors and had a job on Orcas Island. We had never been to Orcas before and were unfamiliar with the area. Before we set out for the island, I looked up local hardware stores (just in case). I found Island Hardware & Supply, called them to make sure they would have what we MIGHT need, hopped in the truck and got on the ferry. OF COURSE it turned out that we DID need some items, so we set off for the Hardware store. We got lost and ended up at the little hardware store in East Sound - we thought we were at the right store, but they didn't have any of the supplies we needed. We were pretty confused until I found out from a local resident that the little hardware store in East Sound is on North Beach Road, and the big hardware store (Island Hardware) is on West Beach Road. So we hopped back in the truck again, and set out to find Island Hardware. (yes, we got losat again...but eventually figured it out) We were so relieved when we located the store and were able to purchase the supplies we needed, because we were thinking that we would have to get on the ferry and drive to the home depot in Mt Vernon (that would have taken forever). Island Hardware had all the stuff we wanted, lumber, tools, big bolts, lag screws, plumbing supplies etc. They even have a couple of little gas pumps which was handy for us. We had the occassion to go back up to Orcas for round two of the job which was exterior painting. The paint we purchased needed to be re-tinted at the last minute. We remembered that Island Hardware had a paint department and took the buckets of paint to them with our fingers crossed. Even though we didn't buy the paint from them, they happily re-tinted it for us...I thought that was pretty generous and excellent customer service!

I don't often write reviews, however following my recent visit to Home Depot, I felt compelled to…read moresay something. I was helped from a young man named William over in the tool area, and honestly, he was excellent. Even though he mentioned he had only recently begun working there, you wouldn't have guessed it. He showed great respect, something I rarely encounter these days, and he took into account what I needed instead of pushing me forward quickly. I had gone inside seeking welding supplies, assuming I roughly knew what I was after. But William made the effort to pose questions and ensured I actually had the proper equipment for the job--he knew his stuff. It turns out, I was short on some things I hadn't considered, so he certainly saved me an additional trip or two. That standard of care and genuine customer service leaves a lasting impression. He didn't regard me like just another face in line. He confirmed I got all that I needed before I went. For years, I've been visiting Home Depot, and moments like these serve as a reminder what keeps me coming back. It's beyond just the supplies--you enjoy service and assistance from individuals who genuinely care. William, though a young guy, he is certainly a valuable member of the team.

The tellers are supper friendly and have always been able to get me someone to help load the heavy stuff. I also find that even when I have a big heavy order like concrete bags, they still have a smile and good conversations while loading my truck. I do not recall ever, where the store did not have what I wanted or a better replacement for what I needed and to be honest I do not in any way see how anyone could only give them a two star rating. These people work hard and have always had a smile for me and always tried their hardest to help in any way possible.

We purchased vinyl plank flooring from this store. Their salesman talks a good line about how he…read morehas great installers and recommended someone to do not just our flooring but also to replace our double shower stall in the bathroom. We stupidly thought he would recommend someone who knew what they were doing. We had 3 weeks of very short working days (sometimes only 3 hours) so the job was going on and on. At the 3 week point, not one room in the house was finished. There were bits and pieces of trim left undone, bits of wood with nails lying around....and then they didn't show up at all one day. We didn't get even the courtesy of a phone call to let us know they would not be showing up. The 2nd time that happened in the same week, we'd had enough and told him it was over. He said he was too busy to show up that day because he works for a strata - that's more important. The way they treated our time showed a lack of respect. He sent his son the next day to finish the hall.....see picture - 2 3/4" inches out in a short hallway.....kind of like the carnival fun house feeling when you go down the hall because it's so crookedly laid. To date we have spent almost $1200 on finishing and redoing. And more to come - the big one with the floor having to be taken up in the hall and reinstalled. And all trim having to be redone. The carpet installer sent from the store sat here when she came to do the estimate and talked about how the last people she had worked for had not given her a big enough tip and she was not happy. We're getting carpeting from a flooring store in Parksville. Someone else is doing our bathroom. The salesman at the store does not seem too bothered at all by this. I guess it's business as usual. After speaking to the salesman about this, my husband came home to tell me that the plants were all on sale in the garden centre. But this business will not be getting another penny of my money. And people in the neighborhood who have asked how the reno is going......well, you can imagine yourself whether they will give them a try. This flooring department might be good if you are a do-it-yourselfer and do not rely on a solid (or even halfway good) recommendation.
