Manville Pizza - Don't let the dark bottom worry you. Not burnt. Not the least bit bitter. Nice scald on it. Need that for the ring of cheese.

We had read so many great reviews on NJ Pizza Facebook Group that we had to try it…read more We can honestly say that Manville Pizza did not disappoint. We decided on the Sicilian Margarita Pizza and what a true gem. The pizza dough was both crispy and light/airy. The sauce and fresh 'muzz' with tomatoes pieces were perfectly balanced. The service was excellent and with a smile. The interior was a true pizza restaurant feel, authentic within their original style and scope. We will definitely return to try their round regular or their famous 'Skinny'.

Truly astounding. I am very particular about my pizza. I have visited and ranked 59 pizza places…read morein NJ and NY and this place immediately jumped to the top of the list. Yes, above that WAY more famous place in Raritan, not more than 5 minutes away. There are several reasons for this. 1. The pizza is outstanding. I tried three varieties. The square crispy cup pepperoni pizza (a slice) that had a wonderful crust and just the right of pepperoni that was perfectly crisp. Think of kind of a grandma's crust. Then the Sicilian (also a slice). I normally don't go for the Sicilian but when the owner, Anthony, found out I was there for the first time he insisted I try it on the house. He is, rightfully, quite proud of it. Very light and airy, thick crust with a focaccia-like middle and a nice crunchy crust. Good amount of cheese and sauce. I liked the pepperoni a bit better because that is more my style but this was exceptional as far as Sicilian goes. And now, the star of the show. The 'Skinny Vinnie'. I am a sucker for a thin pizza with a ring of caramelized cheese around edge and this did not disappoint. Very much like another highly rated place in Millburn. The bottom is well done (to the point some people complain about it) but you have to get a good scald on it in order to get the right crisp on the crust and the right singe on the cheese. It was dark brown but not at all burned. No bitterness at all. The sauce has a bit of sweetness but is balanced out with salt. The cheese is top notch. Just amazing pizza, top to bottom. 2. The owner. As I said, Anthony (son of the original owner, Vinnie) gave me a free slice of Sicilian because he was just dying for me to try it. Talked to him for a bit. Super nice guy. Also, I forgot to order the Skinny Vinnie and just asked for a plain pie and when I realized that 10 minutes later they happily made me a Skinny Vinnie without hassle. 3. You can get in there without standing in line for 20 minutes and they don't run out of pizza at 12:45. I really hope Mr. One Bite never comes to visit. He would give it a 9 and it would suddenly be overrun with people. That would be good for Anthony so maybe I don't wish it but selfishly, just for me, I'd rather have easier access. Either way, it is a secret that shouldn't remain a secret. So, just brilliant all the way around. Can't say enough nice things about it. This review is five times longer than most of mine but it is just that good. I'm just upset it took me this long to get here. Had to wade through 58 other pizzas and finally found what I was looking for all along.

Managed by the Becca family, this shop carries a legacy of Italian craftsmanship that has turned a local favorite into a viral destination. The "One Bite" Legend The shop gained massive national attention when Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports stopped by for one of his famous reviews. The visit was famously tense: the owner, Joe Becca, wasn't satisfied with the first "rushed" pie Dave tried and insisted he wait for a second, perfected version. The Barstool Rating: Portnoy officially scored the first pie a 7.7. The Controversy: After trying the second pie in his car, Portnoy admitted it was superior--praising the "tangy sauce" and "great undercarriage"--and unofficially gave it an 8.1. However, per his strict "One Bite" rules, the 7.7 remains the score on the record. Awards & Accolades Prima isn't just "internet famous"; it has the hardware to back it up. Pizza Bowl I Winner: They took home the trophy for Best Pizza in Central Jersey during the inaugural Pizza Bowl competition. A Legacy in the Making While the Becca family has been in the pizza business for over 35 years (with roots in the legendary "Joe's Pizza"), this specific Somerville location has been a staple of the downtown scene for years, helping anchor the borough's reputation as a foodie hub.

Parking is in the back in the ShopRite lot, or you can try to park on the street. Somerville has become quite a foodie town, and street parking can be difficult to find. We had a party of five and were seated promptly at a round table, which was nice. We could all chat and see each other. Our server was friendly and professional and answered all our questions about the food. The meals were entree-sized instead of lunch-sized. Alfonso's doesn't allow lunch portions on Sundays. To start, we were given a family-style salad. It was mediocre at best. Boring. Mostly iceberg lettuce, no tomatoes, red onion on top, carrots, and cucumber. The complimentary bread was good, but it wasn't Italian. We were given another basket after we finished the first one. The butter was in those little plastic containers. Nothing fancy. Our entrees were: Dinner Giambotta (mild): Italian sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, white balsamic parmesan sauce. Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Scallops & Shrimp Al Limone: Imported Roman artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, and green olives in a lemon butter white wine sauce. Cheese Tortellini Al Forno: Rose sauce, parmesan, fresh mozzarella. Eggplant Rollatini. My daughter had a Mediterranean Mule, which consisted of Figenza fig vodka, ginger beer, & lime juice. She enjoyed it! We all enjoyed our fairly large entrees, and most of us took some home. I would recommend Alfonso's. I've been here before and enjoyed it as well.

My first thought--- another Frank's Pizza? Does every town in NJ have a Frank's? Why are all these people naming their kids Frank? And by naming them Frank, are the parents condemning them to pizza shop ownership? (BTW --- no offense to my brother-in-law Frank ) So this Frank's in Bound Brook has some issues: 1- the sauce is NOT pizza sauce. It tastes like an Italian restaurant wanted to add pizza to their menu but didn't want to use pizza sauce so they just used what they had on hand. Its not a bad sauce, but it just doesn't taste like pizza 2- it is neopolitan but its very doughy. Take a look at the pic. The crust is off-white. It is as soft as it looks. There is zero char. Zero crispiness. It's almost impossible to pick up to bite without losing all the toppings. 3- the staff seems somewhat disinterested in helping customers. I stood there for several minutes waiting to place my order while they were laughing and joking around with each other 4- very greasy and oily. This adds to soft crust issue 5- the slices lack flavor. Not sure if it's cheaper ingredients or being undercooked but it doesn't matter. It just doesn't taste like pizza and that alone is the reason I wont go back Rating: D+
