Garlic chunk grandma pie
Kate I.

WOW, one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. Chunks of raw garlic, rock hard crust and where is the fresh cheese? Sauce thrown on with large pieces of tomato. PLEASE stop selling the grandma pie. I was real looking forward to great pizza based on the reviews and was surprised at the lack of flavor, cheese and excessive raw garlic. Wish we picked up fresh dough from Whole Foods & made our own. Go someplace else.

Giving this a Dave P rating of 8.3. Awesome pizza. The crust was crisp. Not too greasy. Awesome cheese. The taste took me back to a place back home called Brunos. The Mott sticks were also tasty. But the marinara was delicious. This will be my go to pie when I come back to jersey.

Grandma pizza and Sicilian were perfect! Some of the best tomatoes on the grandma slice. The dough was crispy as I wanted.

Grandma pie was horrendous. They disrespected me by serving me this pie. It was all garlic. I've never felt so disrespected.

The chicken soup are garlic rolls were also to die for! This will be my pizza go-to spot whenever I'm in town for work!

Located in Somerville, Prima Pizza Kitchen had been on my pizza hit list for quite some time. As it…read morewas my first time visiting and wanted some variety, I ordered their garlic knots, the standard plain cheese slice, and the drunken grandma slice. The garlic knots (3/5) were just ok, on par with the New Jersey average, and a bit dry on the inside (I prefer them a little more saturated in oil). They asked if we wanted marinara sauce, but it was subject to an upcharge, where we probably would have declined had we been informed about the extra charge for it (most places I'm accustomed to provide a side sauce upon request complimentary). We ordered ahead for a large cheese pizza (3.5/5) so that we could eat it freshly prepared out of the oven. The standard cheese slice was a small notch above what you'd expect from a typical NJ pizzeria, but neither the sauce, cheese, nor crust stood out. We also got a drunken grandma slice (4/5) which was the winner of the meal with the unique flair of the vodka sauce with cheese on a thinner square base. Overall, I'd rate Prima Pizza Kitchen a 3.5/5 in the very competitive NJ pizza market, and am happy to round up since Yelp doesn't allow half stars and the service was friendly. While I probably wouldn't venture out of my way to eat here again, it's a decent local pizzeria option for those in the Somerville/Bridgewater area.

Because of all the reviews saying how popular it is, I made sure to get there early. I parked on the street around 3:50pm (heads up, there isn't much street parking) and I was first in line for the 4pm opening on a Tuesday afternoon. A few other people quickly lined up behind me before the doors opened, so I'd definitely recommend getting there early! I ordered "the works" and it only took 15 minutes to get my pizza. It's a small, chill place with maybe 10-15 tables max. When you eat in, you order, grab whatever sodas you want, and then pay at the end. I've also gotten it to go a couple of times (it took soooo long for someone to pick up the phone) and I have to say it tastes so much better in person. The crust is much crispier when it comes fresh out of the oven, so dine in if you can! I'm going to be missing NJ pizza when I go back to California!

I waited for the hype to die down before coming in. This is what I found. Saturday at open, there were about ten groups ahead of me and the wait wasn't bad at all. I felt good about the experience early on. Street parking and was able to find a spot. One pet peeve: list your prices. I don't like guessing what I'm about to pay. It came out to around $19 for a large cheese, which is honestly not bad. The young lady who took my order was personable, and I was able to grab a seat inside -- they have outdoor tables as well. The pie came out and at first glance the crust is crispy with an orange glow to it. Unfortunately, I've had better tasting pizza. Someone nearby made a comment about the dough being like a cracker, and I have to agree -- it read more like cardboard to me. I ended up using the garlic salt, grated cheese and oregano from the table just to recover some flavor. The leftovers were even worse. A few odds and ends: the pizza makers all look pretty serious, maybe even miserable. That may just be the heat back there. They also sell individual frozen pies to take home, and they accept cash or card. It wasn't a total waste of time, but it's not going on my list of all-time greats. One and done for me -- I wouldn't travel an hour or more to come back. Sorry guys, I wanted this to be epic and it just wasn't.

Parking is in the back in the ShopRite lot, or you can try to park on the street. Somerville has become quite a foodie town, and street parking can be difficult to find. We had a party of five and were seated promptly at a round table, which was nice. We could all chat and see each other. Our server was friendly and professional and answered all our questions about the food. The meals were entree-sized instead of lunch-sized. Alfonso's doesn't allow lunch portions on Sundays. To start, we were given a family-style salad. It was mediocre at best. Boring. Mostly iceberg lettuce, no tomatoes, red onion on top, carrots, and cucumber. The complimentary bread was good, but it wasn't Italian. We were given another basket after we finished the first one. The butter was in those little plastic containers. Nothing fancy. Our entrees were: Dinner Giambotta (mild): Italian sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, white balsamic parmesan sauce. Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Scallops & Shrimp Al Limone: Imported Roman artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, and green olives in a lemon butter white wine sauce. Cheese Tortellini Al Forno: Rose sauce, parmesan, fresh mozzarella. Eggplant Rollatini. My daughter had a Mediterranean Mule, which consisted of Figenza fig vodka, ginger beer, & lime juice. She enjoyed it! We all enjoyed our fairly large entrees, and most of us took some home. I would recommend Alfonso's. I've been here before and enjoyed it as well.

The service is quick too, I felt like our food came out quickly for the size of our group. One thing to note is that this restaurant is BYOB. The food - it was okay. The eggplant rolatini was fine, although I think the eggplant was sliced a little thick for the dish. The lobster ravioli sauce was good, but the ravioli itself was extremely thick (the pasta part). It felt like more ravioli than lobster. I was really excited about the tri color pizza, it sounds so yummy with all the sauces! I was disappointed to see that the stripes however are all of the 3 sauces you get. So I felt it really lacked in sauce. What I think should have been done, is thick stripes of the sauce, cheese on top, and then the stripes for the plating. My sister got the pesto pizza and the also complained that there was a lack of sauce. Overall, I think this restaurant is okay.
