Where are the Roasted Red peppers in my $9 salad? They don't exist. Just iceberg, Tomatoes and Sliced cheese. Ridiculous
    Mrs C.

Went in based on ratings. Have tried just about every Pizza place in Somerville in search of something decent, and this one was the worst by far. First we were ignored upon arrival because the employees were focused on the TV above our heads. Not even a hello. Strike 1. Pizza has no flavor. Strike 2. Ordered a Roasted red pepper salad - There was not a single red pepper involved. It was chopped iceberg, tomatoes, and hunks of cheese (the sliced stuff they use on hoagies, chopped to look like cubes) - for $9?!?! Strike 3!

Pizza is wonderful! Service in restaurant or delivery is always on a timely manner. Even their house salad is good!

Managed by the Becca family, this shop carries a legacy of Italian craftsmanship that has turned a local favorite into a viral destination. The "One Bite" Legend The shop gained massive national attention when Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports stopped by for one of his famous reviews. The visit was famously tense: the owner, Joe Becca, wasn't satisfied with the first "rushed" pie Dave tried and insisted he wait for a second, perfected version. The Barstool Rating: Portnoy officially scored the first pie a 7.7. The Controversy: After trying the second pie in his car, Portnoy admitted it was superior--praising the "tangy sauce" and "great undercarriage"--and unofficially gave it an 8.1. However, per his strict "One Bite" rules, the 7.7 remains the score on the record. Awards & Accolades Prima isn't just "internet famous"; it has the hardware to back it up. Pizza Bowl I Winner: They took home the trophy for Best Pizza in Central Jersey during the inaugural Pizza Bowl competition. NJ.com Honors: They are frequently cited in regional "Best of NJ" lists, specifically lauded for their Signature Pie, which features a secret marinara sauce and high-quality Grande cheese. A Legacy in the Making While the Becca family has been in the pizza business for over 35 years (with roots in the legendary "Joe's Pizza"), this specific Somerville location has been a staple of the downtown scene for years, helping anchor the borough's reputation as a foodie hub.

Not bad, but nothing to drive out of the way for.

Naturally, I walked in expecting a life-changing pizza experience... maybe angels singing... maybe my taste buds ascending to another dimension. What I got instead was a good pie -- just not quite the legendary, internet-breaking experience I had built up in my head. First thing to know: this place is old school. When they sell out, that's it -- game over. We actually had to call in our order hours in advance, so there's a bit of a jumping-through-hoops situation if you want to secure a pie. Also, there's no table service. You order your pie at the counter, grab a table if one's available, and drinks are in that classic see-through fridge where you grab them yourself. Parking is street parking only (no dedicated lot), so be ready to circle a bit. One pro tip: cash is cheaper than credit card here. Now the pizza itself. The cheese had nice blistering and the ingredients tasted fresh. The sauce definitely leans sweet, which I know a lot of people enjoy. Personally, I'm more of a tangy / saltier sauce guy, so the sweetness stood out to me. The dough is where I had mixed feelings. It held together nicely, but felt a little dry for my liking. I also tend to prefer wood or charcoal-fired pizzas because that smoky flavor adds another dimension that I didn't quite get here. Overall verdict: good pizza, just maybe a little overhyped for the score it got. Still worth trying if you're in the area -- just maybe leave the life-altering expectations at the door. Good pie. Just not quite the pizza enlightenment I was promised.

Parking is in the back in the ShopRite lot, or you can try to park on the street. Somerville has become quite a foodie town, and street parking can be difficult to find. We had a party of five and were seated promptly at a round table, which was nice. We could all chat and see each other. Our server was friendly and professional and answered all our questions about the food. The meals were entree-sized instead of lunch-sized. Alfonso's doesn't allow lunch portions on Sundays. To start, we were given a family-style salad. It was mediocre at best. Boring. Mostly iceberg lettuce, no tomatoes, red onion on top, carrots, and cucumber. The complimentary bread was good, but it wasn't Italian. We were given another basket after we finished the first one. The butter was in those little plastic containers. Nothing fancy. Our entrees were: Dinner Giambotta (mild): Italian sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, white balsamic parmesan sauce. Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Scallops & Shrimp Al Limone: Imported Roman artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, and green olives in a lemon butter white wine sauce. Cheese Tortellini Al Forno: Rose sauce, parmesan, fresh mozzarella. Eggplant Rollatini. My daughter had a Mediterranean Mule, which consisted of Figenza fig vodka, ginger beer, & lime juice. She enjoyed it! We all enjoyed our fairly large entrees, and most of us took some home. I would recommend Alfonso's. I've been here before and enjoyed it as well.

The eggplant rolatini was fine, although I think the eggplant was sliced a little thick for the dish. The lobster ravioli sauce was good, but the ravioli itself was extremely thick (the pasta part). It felt like more ravioli than lobster. I was really excited about the tri color pizza, it sounds so yummy with all the sauces! I was disappointed to see that the stripes however are all of the 3 sauces you get. So I felt it really lacked in sauce. What I think should have been done, is thick stripes of the sauce, cheese on top, and then the stripes for the plating.
