Came to get an annual check up based on the office sending me my appointment reminder. (Scheduled it for 8am so I could get in and out.) At 8:30, having seen two other patients go in, I asked why I hadn't been seen and was told they were verifying my insurance, which hasn't changed. 9am I received a cancellation text. I asked why to speak to the supervisor or manager and she's not there. They ask me to reschedule. Also, the receptionist is coughing up a storm. read more

6-5-25 Dr Kahlil is awesome and listens to his patients. I love that the staff were very friendly and very professional. I had issues with the phone service as they have a company scheduling service which is not done in the office. So initially when making an appointment they ask which location do I want to go to based on schedule availability and once I decided on one semi-close to my house I went for appointment which they also gave me the appointment and the location. Also 2 text message reminders which was helpful but upon getting lost from the old address given I called and the scheduling service back and they told me I have no appointment but was 2 weeks from now... This appointment was made a month ago. Upset I had cleared my schedule for this appointment, given the wrong address, and at the time headed to the right location, I went into the office and talked to the front clerk who was super sweet. I showed her my 2 phone txt message reminders for today and she apologized and said it's ok I will put you in and winked she worked me in with no problem. This was a relief. I didn't wait long at all. I filled out the necessary paper work. The staff, I saw prior to the MD visit was super nice and made feel welcomed. Dr Kahlil was very apologetic as well for the inconvenience and misunderstanding on behalf of the call center. He did the exam and gave me sample eye drops & explained my prescription. I was scheduled the next week to see the specialist Dr. Zhao at the same office on 6/12/25 which is next week. Update 6/12/25 I came in 20 early and was met with a smile from the front desk. I waited all of 10 minutes and was called back by a young man who was super nice doing the inner eye photo scans. Dr Zhao I felt listened to my concerns and provided me with a thorough exam. He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions and did not rush me at all. All was great with my exam and I was given recommendations for allergies dry eyes. It was straight to the point. I recommend these doctors as my service was great thank you 4 stars for the simple fact the call center needs to do better. If you can talk to the actual clinic staff when making the appointment then all is great! read more

I just had an appt with an eye "specialist" who was subpar at best. Horrible bedside manners (read: f*cking rude), dismissive, and didn't do ANYTHING but refer me to someone else. I was confused what he was for? I asked (respectfully) what he ruled out/what this appt was supposed to do?? I'm so beyond frustrated and disappointed. It took a long time get the referral, appt, drive in, everything just for nothing. The doctor didn't even shake my hand. He had the AUDACITY to wave his hand to tell me to uncross my legs instead of using his big boys words!!! A grown ass man. This entire office needs a course on basic human decency. The woman who checked me out (different than check in desk) was nice/more communicative and full of humanity than the rest of them (shoutout to her!) There was another person in the room that was never introduced? I don't want strangers in the room. If you want to ASK a patient if they are ok with a student listening in (or whoever that mystery man standing in the corner was??!) that's different. ASK. CONSENT. Maybe if I was a man they would have shaken my hand and actually introduced themselves? The doc should have said something. The doc was awful in so many ways. The woman who brought me back into the first room was there covering from another clinic. She told me that when she kept messing up. She had birds flying in a line on her neck and dark hair. SUPER RUDE. She didn't give AF. Wouldn't even let me finish answering her questions, she would interrupt like a mentally disabled toddler, wouldn't take appropriate notes (I had to be so direct to have her actually write down symptoms and critical info). THIS B^TCH barely brushed my perfectly behaved task trained service dog (who was lying next to me tucked in the corner of the room) and she screamed. Like wtf? Ma'am... are you ok?? My dog didn't even flinch at her insane outburst (bc he's a trained incredible creature). AND my license fell down the elevator crack! Getting it ready with my insurance card to give to the front desk. The front desk woman literally goes "why did you have that in your hand?!" I'm like... "because I'm a first time patient and you told me to have my ID and insurance card?!" Like why you shaming me for doing what I'm supposed to?! She later admitted she clutches her phone with 2 hands every time she uses the elevator because it's a scary gap. Waiting for a call back from the building manager to figure out how I can get license back bc I cannot leave/drive/do anything else until I get that and they wanted me to wait days?! I had my first appointment here a couple weeks ago and I will not be going back. The customer service (or lack there of is terrible). I have also been trying to get a copy of my prescription ever since my appointment, have left 3 messages with the receptionist (when they decide to answer their phone) and all other times no one answers and the voicemail is always full. Short version: Do not go here. Ever. Not even if you're grateful that you have Medi-Cal and you get a lot of healthcare items/appointments/services for free. Slightly longer version: No. No no no no, no. I have been here twice. I am on Medi-Cal. Good items: 1. being able to still go to an eye care facility, 2. being able to still get glasses & contacts, and 3. currently not having to pay for those things. 4. The women who work in the room where you choose your glasses. They are VERY nice. Bad items: Many. (I'll update this later, but ...there are MANY issues. I will never return to this office.) The primary issue, a genuine concern here, is that I. Have. NEVER, ever ever ever in my life had my eyes dilated. I've had corrective lenses since 1st grade, aka decades ago. Short version: the assistant decided to dilate my eyes, didn't ask or tell me that's what was happening, and it caused all sorts of bad times for me. I'm definitely lucky a friend happened to drive me that day. So yeah. That happened. This is a warning to any folks trying to come to this business: their entrance is not properly indicated. There is NO SIGNAGE outside the building to indicate that Acuity Eye Group exists at this address at all. If you parked outside a sign that says "Acuity Eye Group", then you are at the WRONG LOCATION and will not be able to access the business. This violates any customers right to accessibility, PARTICULARLY FOR DISABLED CUSTOMERS, is unethical and actually disturbing. Any business trying to schedule appointments for people STRUGGLING WITH THEIR EYESIGHT should have the PROPER SIGNAGE outside to indicate where it's even located. When you consider that this is a place where people who require DISABILITY AIDS (aka GLASSES) go to address their disability, this is disgusting. Dr G Patel was Great. The staff at El cajon Blvd was lax. Screwed up my first surgery. Girl ordered referrals for pre surgery but not the surgery itself and scheduled the surgery. Got notice 1 hr before arrival surgery csncelled cause hosp never got approval. Then I couldn't get a call back to reschedule. Had to go see G Patel and tell him to get the ball rolling. After the surgeries went to see optometrist at Acuity at Pierce st. He rushed me thru ordered my glasses which I used my own frames and ins paid 300.00 and stoll cost me another 273.00 that was on 2/24/ 26 and was told glasses would be ready by 3/19/26. Again tried calling to see if glasses were in never received a call back. So I had to go in on the 19th. The guy there looked like he could care less that I waited almost a month for my glasses, and was told they were they had not arrived yet and had no idea when they will be there. I'm done with this place. Loved the doctor but Acuity has a very low standard for their employees worst place and will talk anyone can out of going. read more

This place made me waste my time. I had to take half a day off. Which caused me a half a day of pay. This place is terrible. I will never go back. I scheduled an eye exam for my child that took a little over 6 months to get in. They moved the appointment to a day I as working out of town. They did this on Thursday for a Friday appointment. They moved to Monday. I had a friend take him in. First, they didn't understand that my optical insurance DOES NOT ISSUE CARDS. I have been seen a few times in their office and they have all of this information. I spent over 20 minutes on the phone trying to square this away. Then, after taking my money, said they can't see him without a parent. Would have been nice if they consulted a calendar prior to booking appointment, or called a little sooner than the Thursday before. So, my son was turned away. Not making another appointment. I'll go to another optical place. Costco has one. No reason to deal with these incompetent people. read more

This is regarding my husband visit today (June 27) and on June 9. Each of these visits are complaints against the quality of customer service we received (check in/check out) based on my daughter and my (wife) experience on each visits. June 9 (my daughter and husband): When they were checking out, one of the receptionists (young Mexican lady) was very rude and unprofessional and when she asked if we have insurance to cover payment of glasses and my daughter and husband says he has Medi-Cal and Medicare, the lady just says whatever and that she books appointment for my husband. June 27: We got a call the day before about my husband appointment for this day at 8:00 am, but the lady who called me was very rude and unprofessional (her voice is like shouting already) with no greeting about where she is calling from (I had to ask where is this phone call coming from) and just keeps saying my husband's name. When I arrive with my husband to his 8:00 am appointment, the check-in people were not very welcoming and they are completely rude and unprofessional and the most worst patient/customer service I have seen. At first, when I checked in for my husband appointment, I spoke to a blond-haired old lady receptionist and she just rudely pointed me to go to the other window. When I go to the other window, the lady (middle-aged Mexican lady) gave us paperwork that is meant for new patients for us to fill out, but I told her that my husband was already seen on June 9 and we told her we are not a new patient and that someone called us yesterday about the appointment. But the lady told us in a very demanding way that my husband's record is not in this system and that she doesn't know who called us and that the lady made it seem like it is our fault this happened. So, because we didn't think it makes sense to fill out another paperwork since my husband is not a new patient, we decided to leave the appointment and find another eye institute that could help us. When we get to the car, we noticed the eye institute left us a message and phone call stating that my husband's today and future appointment was canceled. So this means that the eye institute had my husband's record after all because how can they cancel his appointments and why we went through that hard time with the front desk in today's visit and blaming us for this problem. This is the worst customer/patient service we have seen in a healthcare facility (I would make it 0 stars if I could because of how it was a terrible experience that me and my daughter saw during my husband's visits) and really needs to change to be more welcoming and professional to each patient. read more

I've never felt so small by her childish comments and actions directly aimed at me, during my first visit at this place. I'm not a child, I'm a mature senior citizen who shouldn't have to be treated with such disrespect. This place was dirty and unkempt and frankly extremely disorganized. With the kind of insurance, I have, they're only a couple of places I can go, which is upsetting due to the fact, you get what you can get. I do not recommend this place. Doctor was nice. Very friendly and clearly explained her findings. My issue was with ordering my glasses. I waited almost an hour to see someone and no one was ahead of me on the sign in. I finally went up and asked how much longer and they said they could see me right away...cause no one was ahead of me. Staff seemed more focused on gossping than providing customer service. They also messed up the payment, not sure what happened there but payment had to be processed over the phone. Also the contact number listed takes you to their old office and all you get is an automated message. In looking at some of the other reviews it seems like I am not the only one that had issues. This place was awful and honestly I'm surprised by the good reviews on Google, I'm wondering how many are from fake accounts honestly. I was pregnant and was going to run out of my dailies after giving birth, so my husband made me an eye appointment here because it was between home and my office. I waited for 30+ mins to be seen. The eye doctor I saw had a migraine that day, which I ABSOLUTELY empathize with as someone who gets migraines, but honestly I wish they had rescheduled my appointment because maybe that would have prevented my frustration that last year, lol. She told me she thought my prescription was too high and wanted me to try a lower prescription. I didn't agree with this, but sure, maybe. They didn't have my contacts in my prescription to try, so they would order a sample and call me when they came in, probably 2 days she said. She didn't discuss any other options for my contacts, didn't listen to concerns about a lower prescription, nada. She had a migraine, I get it. Cancel your appointments. A week later, I hadn't heard from them, and again, I was pregnant and stressed about not having contacts after giving birth, so I tried calling them multiple times. After 3 or 4 days of not getting someone, being placed on a 15+ min hold with no pickup, or getting someone and being asked if they could call me back after they tried to find out if they had those with no callback, I finally just went to the office on my way to work. They had the sample sitting in a bin and had for awhile obviously from the note on them. The lower prescription was definitely wrong. I tried calling again, and literally was due in 2 weeks at this point and almost out of dailies, SO when I couldn't get a callback, I said eff it and just ordered the lower prescription off 1-800 contacts and figured I'd deal with it. When they called me this year to verify my yearly appointment we made last year, I laughed and immediately cancelled. I've spent the last year in a lower prescription with blurriness and I am still slightly bitter about that. I saw a new eye doctor this year, turns out my prescription had actually increased some from what it was previously AND I was able to switch to monthlies from my dailies because they finally had some with my weird measurements they had come out with 2 years ago. Having contacts that I can see clearly in is absolutely wonderful now. At least I was able to save my husband from going to this place. read more

Place has basically NO seating to start with, my kid is literally sitting on the floor. It smells in here as well, nothing an air freshener wouldn't help. But the biggest gripe? My kiddos appointment was at 1:20pm... it's now 2:05 pm, and we are still waiting. We had done all our paperwork prior to arrival, so check in was easy. Literally tell them we are here, and they told us to wait. But they also have NO SELECTION, for kids glasses, save yourself time if you have a kid, DO NOT GO HERE!!! If you do take your prescription, and take it elsewhere to get frames. Lastly the parking is absurd here!! Better hope you drive a small compact car! Otherwise forget it!! read more

I bought a pair of glasses from acuity eye group. I paid for progressive lenses and transition lenses. I first wore the glasses outside yesterday and the transition lenses did not darken. They did not change color at all. I have tried calling West Coast eye group and their operator always connect me with the optical department . Well apparently there is no one in the optical department because after waiting on the phone for over an hour no one ever answered. I didn't like the service in the store and I don't like their aftercare I do not recommend this place read more

Me and my wife had a morning appointment they were fully staffed but only one clerk seemed to ready to help while tje others chatted away. While being the asked standard medical questions and initial eye exam another technician walked a second patient in to the exam room, a small mistake could happen any where. But the second technician did not apologize but stayed and started the initial exam on the other patient with out cleaning the equipment. ( umm hippa / Covid is a thing right). I was scheduled 40 days out for my sons appointment. Although not ideal, I understand that there are employee shortages and it's hard to be see right away during this time. The day before his appt I was told the Doctor was unexpectedly scheduled for surgery and they had to cancel. Again, this is unfortunate but I understand this happens. He was rescheduled the following week. The day Before his appointment the receptionist called and said she's sorry but the Dr does not see patients as young as my son. My son is 6, his DOB was provided when I scheduled the appointment. Now 46 days later, because of a poor new patient vetting process I need to schedule another appointment which is out another 2 months. Very disappointing. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my daughter here over a month ago. On my insurance's website it lists this office as a pediatric eye doctor. Her appointment was supposed to be today however, yesterday I received a call from receptionist stating that my daughter could not be seen in their office because she's too young. She stated the youngest they start seeing children is at 5 years of age and that I would need to go to Rady's. I asked her why they didn't inform me of this when I set the appointment and she responded saying that I made the appointment through the call center and not the eye doctor's office itself. I found that answer to be lacking because the call center that schedules appointments should know the policies of the offices they're scheduling appointments for especially when the "call center" goes as far as verifying your insurance to make sure they'll get paid. Even still, the confirmation texts you get at the 7 day and 3 day mark before the appointment would make anyone think that there would be no issues in being able to be seen. Had the office staff been proactive in reviewing upcoming appointments and/or system alerts when appointments are made I could've been told this information over a month ago and scheduled with Rady's where my daughter would've been seen by now. This is extremely inconvenient and very unprofessional on their part. Do yourselves a favour and make an appointment at Rady's from the beginning if you have kids. It'll save you from a headache and frustration later on. read more

This office is rude and totally disorganized. My daughter had an appointment for eye exam and had to get glasses for the first time. ( unfortunately her insurance only has this group to choose from). She was told she could only get the frames from a tiny rack with very few limited choices. There was a 2 month wait for the glasses as well. When she went to get her order the eyeglass person handed them to her and said "here you go". No fitting? Bottom line my daughter had to go to Walmart optical because the frames were slipping off her face and they were very gracious about trying to get them to fit better. Now she had to buy litte nose pads fir the frames as well. Please beware of this office and if you do have to go there, be persistent about your service. BTW, she did call this office and was told the person was on lunch but come back for adjustments. Nope, not again. read more

Absolutely NOT recommended. Wish I'd seen the Yelp reviews before going. Yes, it is filthy and very unprofessional. The glasses I was just handed "Here you go" without fitting or giving me anything to test them on, had wrong prescription. The exams I had there were poorly done, the equipment ancient. I want my money back for the glasses which I refused to take home, and no one will answer my calls. I will take them to small claims court and file a complaint with the insurance company so they drop them from their list. No one should be subjected to this. Also very long waits and not all staff wearing masks properly (under nose) ... a mill for the poor. They've picked the wrong person to do this to. If I have to picket outside this dumpy place I will. I spent $15,000 having cataracts removed. The surgeon did a great job but my eyes had an allergic reaction to one of his prescribed eye drops. That led me to an allergist and 4 months of ongoing intense pain. For 3 months the doctor suggested various treatments, to little avail. Then I went to see him again and not only did he not have a clear diagnosis he charged me $143 for the visit. Their policy is any visit after 90 days post op is billable-even when they are trying to resolve a problem they created. Now the office just puts me on hold and then we get disconnected. I would stay away from this place. San Diego has a lot of options and this should be your last. read more

I went in and they said the doctor had just left and lied about calling me to let me know that the doctor left!! Rudest staff at the front desk and I will not be returning to the office again! Taking in pandemic consideration and writing this assessment I am convinced I have adequate consideration on the companies services. Back in Mid November of 2020 I made confirmed appointments for 2 elderly parents plus myself. In spite of the pandemic their reception was packed. The actual doctor we saw showed signs of being stressed and communicated she could only see 2 of us not the 3 despite my scheduled appointment. I did not argue and asked her to treat my elderly parents. Their eyewear prescriptions were filled that day. Today 02/15/2021 my elderly parent has not yet received her glasses now going to a 3 month wait. My elderly father picked up his glasses back on January 18, 2021 and I inquired about my elderly mothers glasses. I also tried to make my eye appointment again but they could not find my VSP provider information though they had no problem back in 2020. I just said forget it. Today 2/15/2021 still no glasses for my elderly parent. This is unsatisfactory. We will not go back to this side show next year. read more

I was a little nervous about going to the eye care center after reading all the comments. My experience was awesome from the girls that greeted me to the girl that took me back to a room right on time to Dr Patel and then to finish off Melanie helped me pick the perfect pair of glasses and walked me through the insurance that I have and what I am qualified for. She was extremely knowledgeable. All in all this was a great experience except for the fact that my vision is getting worse . I will definitely see them once a year. I just don't get all the bad xomm OK picked up glasses and they are great. I'm just surprised that the don't give out your PD. I've always been able to get that. I went to Another optometrist and paid for the exam $$40 and got my PD. I feel better having it done by a professional. Sad because everything else was great about my visit. Just a heads up if you want your PD they do not give it. I bought glasses from them. That is my medical information. I think they should give it to me. read more
