Great doctor and staff - straight to the point, very honest and didn't sell me on anything at all. I was hesitant to provide background that I started struggling a bit to see road signs at night due to it being my first time at an eye doctor. I was thinking any optometrist would try to sell me on a prescription (ridiculous I know - call me skeptical lol!) The testing took 15 min, very efficient. They caught exactly my issue, astigmatism. I do however have 20/20 so he explained that tho I may struggle in more dimly lit areas, glasses were not necessary! Gave me a prescription anyways in case I wanted to see clearer, but assured me my eyes are developed enough to not need any help currently. Great place! Would have given 5 stars, but their sanitization processes are lacking a bit. Things were a bit dirty - but I didn't mind lol! read more

If you do not verbally confirm your "tentative" appointment at least one month ahead of time, they will automatically cancel it. Keep in mind the tentative appointment is set one year in advance. Also they have no appointments available for months so the best they can do is put you on a waitlist. No apologies. Too difficult to do business with. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Great doctors, terrible office management and scheduling. The communication is awful and scheduling is a nightmare. They may or may not let you know if they've kept your appointment they have you schedule a year in advanced or if they've decided to cancel or reschedule it. They may or may not call you if your insurance isn't updated before your appointment, if your glasses have come in, or if your doctor is no longer available. They'll send you vague texts about appointments they ask you to schedule around, but won't work with you about over-scheduling themselves or if they become unavailable... for the appointment they scheduled... a year in advance. The website is outdated and you can't check if they've kept these appts since they're always changing unless you take initiative to contact them and find out they canceled your appt without letting you know. But, the doctors are nice enough. read more

I've been going to Santee Family Optometry for about 10 years. I've never been a no-show, had a late cancelation, or been late to an appointment. I have an appointment scheduled for 1030am with Dr Guiang today but I woke up sick. I spoke with the lady in the office, she told me she has to charge me a "$35 no-show fee" because she "will only have an hour and a half to fill the appointment". She didn't care if I go into the office sick, I sound sick so it's obvious I am. Didn't say feel better, not one concern at all except for the small window of time she would have to fill the appointment slot. I told her ok, I don't want to pay it so I'll be coming in, she simply said "ok". That says a lot about the optometrists in that practice. Those optometrists don't care about their patients being sick, or if I potentially spread it to their staff or people who are there for appointments...? They can't make an exception for someone who has never had a late cancelation or no-show? They only care about filling the appointment slot. I'm a registered nurse, there are several illnesses going around right now. Medical practices are supposed to advise people to stay home if they are sick unless they need medical attention. Santee Family Optometry is doing the opposite by telling me I have to attend the appointment sick or I'll be charged a $35 "no-show fee". This practice is all about the money. read more

It was my first time going to this place everybody there was friendly. I had an appointment for 1:30 PM yesterday. I arrived so early that they even took me in early. They helped me out a lot. The doctor who did the eye exam was excellent (Elaine Limpiado)! After the exam, my wife wanted to get the prescription filled at this office using her favorite brand-new frames she already had! We waited for almost two weeks to find out their lab had broken my wife's brand-new frames! Since we had signed a waiver, we were out of luck! But we still wanted to give this office the benefit of the doubt, so my wife took another pair of frames she owned. After we turned those frames in, we didn't hear from this office for almost three weeks! My wife and I, both had to call a few times to find out the status of the prescription order! We were given all kinds of excuses and run-around! It took more than a month just to get our prescription glasses! This is one of the WORST experiences we had at this place (Santee Family Optometry)! We will never go back to this office to get any prescriptions filled ever again! They have lost us as customers! Disappointed to the extreme! I want to here previously before Covid and had a good experience. After Covid when they reopened, they didn't have appointments for months, so I went elsewhere for my optical needs in 2021. In 2022 I moved out of state. I received an email confirmation of an appointment saying that I made an appointment for February 2023 also showing a cancellation fee of $25 if you miss your appointment. I never scheduled this appointment. I've been out of the state for at least 6 months. My sister was also a client here and also moved. She had the same thing happened to her. These are appointments that we never made. I haven't been seen at this location for over two years. I don't know if they're hurting for a business or what the deal is but it's very strange that you make appointments for people that never scheduled appointments and then you're trying to charge a cancellation fee for appointments that they did not make. read more

I like how easy it is to get an appointment. I call, and they usually have an appointment within the week. My husband and I have been coming here for the last several years now, and we like the fast service when we go. We are busy people, and the ability to get in, be seen right away, and then leave is great. My prescription has been getting worse for a couple of years now, and today one of the ladies at the front desk noticed that my prescription reached a point where my insurance would cover a full year's worth of contact lenses for 60 dollars because my prescription was so high. Very unpleasant experience, agreed on a price for glasses and paid $345 was told 10 to 14 days would be ready, called 19 days later since I received no calls was told you owe another $29 so we didn't put your order in. I'm thinking really, that's not what was agreed upon. Bad business practices. They went as far to tell me they left messages and called my phone. My phone is glued to me as I use it for my business. I have been having my eye exams done by Dr Patel for about 7 years now. He is the best! He takes the time to do a thorough check up and is very friendly and professional. Twice I have had an eye infection and his staff has squeezed me right in. When I ran out of contacts they gave me some until my order came in. My daughter got poked in the eye and they saw her immediately and followed up every day until she was healed. I highly recommend this office. read more

I just reviewed the EOB associated with a recent visit my teenage son and husband had at your facility and let me just say I was blown out of the water when I realized that you charged my husband's insurance $150 for an eye exam for glasses! This same type of eye exam is performed at Coscto and Lens Crafters for half the cost. Your staff had the audacity to attempt an upsale on additional exam for $25 if my husband would have accepted the offer. $175 visit to be told you need glasses and then your frame selection was mediocre at best. My goodness, we will definitely will NOT be returning here for service. I am glad that we held off getting frames from your facility and went with Lens Crafters, there's no telling how much we would have owed at the end of this fiasco. read more

First and foremost, Dr. Gendelman is wonderful. I am very pleased and appreciative of the care I've received here over the past few years. However, I recently had a very disappointing experience buying glasses. I ordered Prada frames a month ago at their trunk sale. The pair I tried on were a size large, and I wanted the medium in that color, so they ordered it for me. Three weeks later I hadn't heard from them, so I called. The person I spoke to told me they weren't in yet, but not to worry, they will definitely call me as soon as they come in. Another week went by, and still no word, so I called again. I couldn't believe it would take a month for just a pair of frames to come in. I mean, if they're back ordered, let me know. This time when I called, the person said let me look into it and I'll call you back. Shortly thereafter, she called and said they actually had come in, but they got put back on the shelf by mistake! I was pretty frustrated by now, but went in anyway to get fitted for the lenses, only to find out that the wrong size came in! What? So now it's another waiting game for who knows how long, and I still have to get fitted for the lenses. I paid the full price, $620 a month ago, and still no glasses. At this point, I'm considering canceling the whole order. Very unprofessional in my opinion. Adding insult to injury, there wasn't much of an apology for the whole situation, and I didn't feel cared for at all as a customer. Would not recommend buying glasses here. read more

My son Casey is a thirty-year-old man with severe Cerebral Palsy and mild Autism. He can neither walk nor talk. He is myopic and in need of eyeglasses, as well. Bearing in mind that an appointment to assess one's need for glasses warrants verbalization in that you need to read aloud from an eye chart, Casey needs more than just a typical eye examination. We were blessed to find Dr. Smit Patel in more ways than one. Dr. Patel is very innovative in finding the proper eye exam for Casey and is very kind and patient to boot. He is a wonderful Doctor and awesome gentleman. We love him. Everyone who works in his office is spectacular, always taking care of the patients (and this elderly parent) with the utmost respect and kindness. read more

Santee Family Optometry staff are definitely first rate! They'll greet you with a smile and take time to explain processes. Staff are always willing to answer questions. If you are looking for the perfect frames the staff are very approachable and will give you the best options available. Also, Dr. Irene is an amazing Optometrist! She is patient, understanding and willing to do what it takes to give her patients the best care. Been coming here for years and I have been very pleased. This location was recommended by a friend when I didn't have vision coverage through insurance. They offered 20% off frames for the referral to take care of me. I have seen 3 doctor's there due to my own schedule restraints but I trust each one. I rarely wait at all to be taken in and they fast and efficient. They have a wide variety of frames with name brands that are classy. The service is always stellar. Great new Optometry place out in Santee. I saw a flyer in the mail figured i would check it out. The place is great! It's the hippest eye doctor's office I've ever been to. The office feels inviting and the staff is super friendly. No grumpy old men. The girl at the front desk (reminds me of Velma from Scooby Doo) is super nice and very helpful with finding you a frame that works for you. I was a walk in and they fit me in without a wait. They have a great selection of designer frames. The doctor i saw was very knowledgeable and friendly. Answered every question i had without making feel like i was asking a dumb one or too many of them. I am very satisfied with my experience. read more

My husband and I were lead to this optometrist because of the reviews on Yelp. For the most part our initial experience was good. The staff was in the front and the office was relatively nice. Our appointment was with Irene Gendelman went fine but honestly it felt like she went through the appointment with as little interaction as possible and we both felt in the dark throughout the exams (and I don't mean because the room was dark). 5 months have past and my husband noticed that his eyes still have not fully adjusted to the prescription, he returned to see if there was any way to get them fixed. Alex informed us that we would have to pay entirely out of pocket since it was past the allotted time. After already paying several hundred dollars out of pocket for an incorrect prescription and how so many seemed to boast about their fantastic customer service, I asked if there was any way they could help hoping to get the issue resolved and to get the correct prescription but, they would not budge and said they couldn't do anything for us. The insurance company said they could reverse the coverage if the optometrist would except the return, which this was obvious not an option since they already said there was nothing they could do for us. Overall, I was just disappointed that from the beginning they clearly screwed up the prescription and now we are SOL. I expected better service because of their high of ratings. We will unfortunately be trying a new optometrist in hopes of a more accurate prescription. 3 stars seem a little generous so my rating is really 2.5 read more
