So I purchased 2 bed pillows online. Next day those same pillows went on-sale for half-price. Since there was no way to just get a credit for the one's I purchased, I had to buy two more [discounted] pillows and return the first ones. So I initiated a return through the vendor, which provided for a FedEx drop & ship (you know, the 'don't box it or label it just drop it off thing with a QR code' ). Unfortunately there was no FedEx store that did that within walking distance of my apartment, so I found Active Transport Services over on 5th--a bike ride away. After about 30 minutes of wrangling the original gigantic box on the back of my bike with a rope and bungee cords, chicken wire, duct tape, super glue, you name it I used it, I headed out for Active Transport. When I got there I parked my bike, went in and asked: "Do you guys do the drop & ship thing with return packages, 'cause it took me 2 days to get that big assed box on the back of my bike and I don't want to take it off if you don't." The shipping dude said yes. Cool. I proceeded to unravel & untie that box, which took about 30 minutes, and finally was able to get it in the store. I pushed it up on the counter and... Shipping dude: "Where's the label?" Me: "There isn't one, it's a drop off & ship with a QR code". Shipping dude: "Oh, we don't do THAT." Me: "OMFG No way! You said you did!" Shipping dude: "You said 'drop & ship' and we DO that... you DIDN'T say with a QR code". OK, so to be 100% fair, he was right. I didn't make it clear it was one of those 'scan the QR code' deals. So it wasn't their fault, it was mine. But I still had to tie/strap that big damn box back on my bike, and go find another FedEx place that did QR codes--which was going to be a holy-hell-nightmare and take me the rest of the afternoon. "Ugh!" (I whimpered out loud). Right about that time the Manager came around the counter and she said: "I tell you what, you email me the QR code and we'll take your box to the FedEx shipping center for you and we'll have them print the label and send it from there". Me: "OMG! Really? You gotta be kidding me! You would do that?" Yup. That's what she said and that's what they did. The moral of this [way too long] story is this. When things go wrong, people complain--sometimes even when it's their own damn fault. But occasionally, people go out of their way to do right by a customer even when they don't have to. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it needs to be acknowledged. So I am enthusiastically and whole-heartedly acknowledging, shouting to the heavens (on Yelp anyway) that ACTIVE TRANSPORT SERVICES--the manager and the workers there--ARE TRUELY AWESOME and I can't thank them enough. They really get customer service. And by helping me out, they now have a CUSTOMER FOR LIFE because I will go there for ALL of my FedEx shipping needs going forward. If i could give -20 stars I would. I used to use them for business courier needs but after having the worst interaction with the female whom I suspect to be the owner, never again. She ASSumed I had a small account, not knowing my husband also HAD (closed due to her rudeness) and we do not refer any of our clients there anymore. There was an error on a courier delivery and the way she speaks to CUSTOMERS is disgusting. If you point out deragatory she starts screaming and going off the wild end and very condescending. If you need examples look at her google review responses. I had to catch myself b/c I was in my car going to business to check her rudeness in person. read more

They lost my husband's package. Post Office never got it. When he went in to talk about it the owner created a scene. She called him "Cheap like my husband". He walked out in disgust. The scene was her escape route. Clever, but not dependable. As far as her husband goes, well, she married him. read more

An "authorized" UPS dropoff - but there always seems to be a reason why *this* package is an exception, or there's an extra fee.

I dropped off three packages on two separate occasions here. All went missing. Unbelievable. After spending hours on the phone with customer service explaining that I don't know where the returns went, I finally got my money back. Never again. read more

I used Active Transport for our small business only a handful of times before giving up. Their "3 hour window" policy for pickup time is never communicated when you place an order, it's just an excuse for them to consistently be over an hour late. They were never ideal, but not entirely aggravating until today. I arranged for a gift to be delivered to a client, and had to push the pickup time back because it was not ready yet. I called to change the order (something they've never done when they're late). Hours later, an older man called to say "it can't be done, you've changed our whole day" and made no offer to re-organize my delivery. His tone was incredibly rude, when I suggested we move it to tomorrow, he said no - he just called to yell at me! How inflexible do you have to be to yell at your clients for making you do your job?? read more

Usually I go to the correct places for drop off when it comes to packages. Ups/FedEx/USPS, whatever it is I am very particular about how it gets shipped. Today I was in a rush and decided to use there services instead. I dropped off one package, they do charge a small convenience fee of a dollar, but to be honest with you I would've paid more ... Usually when you go to the proper places the employees are nasty , rude, and just don't care about your issues with the package. I was able to walk in and out within 2 minutes but they made me feel comfortable, asked me how my day was and if I needed any help with any services, I asked a couple general questions and was answered and appreciated by there team. Walking out of there with a contagious smile . Turns out they have a plethora of services , from faxing and copies to help with the best option for shipping! A Honest to goodness hard working small business operation that makes me appreciate the little things.. I highly recommend them. Will be using them from now on! read more

My company used Active Transport Services once to courier an envelope to mid-town Manhattan. When we needed to verify the charge and invoice I politely reached out to their office to be mocked beyond belief. I followed up with an email and a phone call to inquire about an unaccounted invoice and the person I spoke with could not have been ruder. In fact, he went out of his way to laugh over and over and over when I told him that due to his rude professional behavior I would not be using their services again. When someone is "off" there are "off". There are too many wonderful companies competing for business. There is absolutely no reason to ever use this company. read more

They charge you a dollar to drop off pre-paid packages. For FedEx you can go to the Walgreen's on 10th St to drop off for free, and the UPS counter at Slope Drugs (5th Ave between 7th and 8th St). read more

I dropped off a package here last week that got lost and Fedex claims that it was never given to them to scan. Granted, the label was 2 months old, but that does not explain how the package went missing. I went to the store to inquire about what happened with my package and was met with complete hostility. The woman that runs this place (Bilyana) insulted me, accused ME of scamming her, dismissed my drop-off receipt and said I was wasting her time. Her immediate hostility felt riddled with homophobia and might I mention that she wasn't wearing a mask throughout this entire interaction? The value of the package was $500 so it was certainly not a waste of time for me. I wrote a google review about my experience and she replied claiming that 1. I never even dropped off a package AND 2. the label was expired. So which one is it...? Because I don't appreciate being called a liar. This elderly woman still has some growing up to do if she thinks this is how you're supposed to treat customers. Everyone on Yelp says how rude she is, and they're right. I look forward to an equally hostile response here that proves how awful this place is. Avoid at all costs!!! read more

I went there to drop off a UPS pre-labeled package and a man with nasty attitude told me it costs a dollar and pointed to a sign about how they have to charge for a service that should be free as a UPS drop off location. It's a total ripoff and probably illegal-there's a Staples around the corner to go to instead, good customer service and no charge (which should be a given). read more

I used Active Transport for messenger service for the company I work with a number of years ago. They were always fast and reliable. The company recently moved and we forgot about Active Transport until a recent messenger need. We had called another local messenger and the cost was crazy. We remembered Active and called for a quote -- over $100 less! Amazing. Pick up was super fast with really nice couriers. We called late in the day, and had multiple boxes going out with an early time limit (the other courier wouldn't pick up until the following week). AT came and almost everyone received their packages that day no problem. The packages that would be delayed to the next day (no problem for us, we just needed them out of the office immediately) and they gave us a discount for the delay. So why 4 stars -- their ability to only take Am Ex, cash, or check is a bit of a problem. We ended up creating a business account, allowing us to be billed and pay later, but would have preferred just paying with our Visa right then. Also, they don't have email, only fax. We don't have fax. We often have a number of packages going out at one time to a number of locations. Giving all the details of 20+ locations via phone is a bit tedious and sending an Excel document would be much preferred. This seems a little silly not to have, especially since anyone can create an email account for free these days. read more

Been using this place off and on for probably ten years. Never again. Customer service has never been their strong suit, but they got the job done. Recently a woman has been working in the office that could not possibly be more rude. To be perfectly frank, shipping and messenger service is not rocket science, and there are plenty of other shops out there doing this. I see no reason to give my money to people who are insulting and curse at me. So, goodbye. I suggest others shop elsewhere as well. Just not worth the angst. read more

I have maintained a mailbox at Active Transport for nearly 9 years, and receive all my packages there as well. Being a retired senior, with some difficulty walking due to a bad back, their friendly and courteous service has helped me many times. But last week, I couldn't get there to retrieve important Rx medicines, and the kind owner, Peter allowed his staff to bring all my week's stuff to my door. They didn't even charge me for this, and I know they "don't deliver" as a fact. In our neighborhood of Brooklyn, Park Slope, it's this type of caring local businesses that make it a unique part of New York City. They gladly receive returns with pre-paid labels, or can wrap and ship almost anything. Plus I get my Postal stamps, an return receipts from them too! Tried to book a courier service for my small business that I own personally. The owner then got on the phone telling me they don't do personal pick ups in case one person is angry at the other person. I told him I am a small business but he hung up on me. This is the first yelp review I've ever written because I don't like to talk bad about other businesses, but I've never experienced such rude unprofessionalism. read more

This is my "Go To" place for shipping here in the neighborhood and they are always helpful and patient. They are so much quicker and easier to deal with than the PO on 9th St. or the UPS shipping center at Staples. So much quicker, it isn't even funny. I went on yelp yesterday to check closing time and was surprised by negative reviews and meant to come back and right a glowing review. I was very aggravated when I arrived 15 minutes before closing time and they were already closed tight with the gate down. Totally not cool when customers are lugging things over for shipment. This has happened to me a couple of times, so I suggest you call before you go over if late in the day. But still in all a great local business. read more

I find them to be very helpful and efficient. Whatever I've needed to get shipped, they have sent out without any problem and as quickly as possible. I definitely don't have time to wait at the post office for 30 mins when I can get it done in 3 mins there...so for that extra service and cost...it's definitely worth it to me. This place is great. The two dollars Nick charged me for my DHL drop off was well worth it after all the trouble I put him through with all my worrying about my package making it back to England . Active Transport Services is probably one of the last real Brooklyn businesses run by real Brooklyn people. My experience with this shop has been great, and I'm surprised to read negative reviews of the staff. The owner was friendly and went out of his way to help me, and the business (while, yes, somewhat run down) seemed professionally run. I had a really unfortunate experience at this store today and has driven me to create a yelp account and write this review. I visited Active Transport hoping to mail my parents their Christmas gift and, ignoring the fact that the shop had no bubble wrap or sufficient supplies, my package weighed 6 lbs and they wanted me to write on my fedex slip that it was 20 lbs. The box and packing supplies seemed less than an extra 14 lbs so I questioned it. I was promptly confronted by the owner and yelled at for my "attitude" and told to "go on get out. Get out of here" among other explosives. I have never been asked to leave anywhere before and was so disturbed by this experience. I'm a 26 year old student and pride myself in my communication, so when I was sternly told to "get out" several times for what seemed like a logical question, I can only rethink my visit or anyone's future visit to Active Transport. read more
