I've passed this place on multiple occasions over the course of five years since my friend moved here, but I never really had a need to enter other than my fascination with hardware stores and the myriad of things they carried since I was a young kid when I followed my dad into them when he did all of the maintenance at the family's rental properties. Founded by the Novick family in 1922, the surname literally translated to "newcomer" in the Jewish and Polish languages. In 2013, Mitzi and Bartolo Tejada bought the business. In April 2022, it celebrated its 100th anniversary and continued to be a landmark and stalwart at the same location. As a newcomer to this business, did I find what I needed at this hardware store!? PURCHASE(S) Replacement Bathroom Window Screen 30" L x 14" H ($20.00): This was the main reason for my visit. Since my friend moved in, the bathroom window never had a screen, so it was hard to have the window open for ventilation for fear of bugs and such coming in (mosquitos were eating me alive!). So, I finally got fed up, took the customized measurements, and they were able to make it for me in less than 15 minutes while I shopped around. It was a near-perfect fit (my measurements were slightly off), but it did the job. TruGuard Safety And Security 1"-1/2" Protection Furniture Leg Pas 4pc ($4.99): I noticed some scuff marks on the wood floor underneath a chair that didn't have any foot padding, so I installed these to prevent any further damage. Bathtub Hairstopper ($4.99): My friend had a full lush head of hair, and her tub drain barely had a cover to catch any of her strands, so I felt this was an easier solution to alleviate the slow clogging that was going on. Green & Yellow Key Tag ($1.00 x2): I coincidently needed these for a couple of color-coded properties back home. SERVICE I initially called the day before and inquired whether or not they made window screens and spoke with a very friendly and informative gentleman (I never got his name). When I arrived the following day, I met said gentleman, and he proceeded to make time to have this window screen made. Once he was done, he found me in the store with a new screen in hand, left it for me at the counter, and wished me a good day. At the counter, a different friendly gentleman rang me up, and I was on my way with my prized possession - todah! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): This was a moot point since I walked the flat 15-minute distance. No parking lots in sight, there seemed to be plenty of spots along the main drag of Central Ave. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A compact floorplan with several long aisles thoroughly stocked while items and materials were displayed from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. Although I saw a flight of stairs that went downstairs and upstairs, I was unsure whether or not merchandise was sold on those levels. Otherwise, it was just one level. This definitely was your neighborhood hardware store versus the big box ones, so items, quantities, and services were limited. A decent amount of natural lighting filtered through the front glass doors and windows while soul-sucking fluorescent electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There weren't any TVs while I believed music played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Novick Hardware has served the community for over 100 years, so dammit, it was obviously doing something right, and I couldn't have been happier to finally visit them! Benjamin Moore Paint seemed to be a huge part of their business model, and quite honestly, I didn't ask what else they did. For the merchandise and possible services they might've lacked, they really made up for it with the customer service and comparable prices. Plus, I always preferred to support small mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $32.31 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

I was on Fulton street and walked into this store that I accidentally found while in the area. I walked in requesting a copy of my keys and the owner asked if I wanted him to make only a copy of my keys and why not the FOB, too? I told him that he couldn't do that and that only my building could. The owner reassured me that he had all the equipment in that store and he would be able to CLONE my FOB so I'd have an extra set of keys and a FOB just in case I lost my original ones. He was right! I live in Brooklyn and when I got home even the FOB worked. This place gave me great customer service and really came through. They certainly know what they are doing.
