Over time, repeated conversations about missed appointments, attendance reminders, and signing attendance acknowledgments left me feeling judged instead of supported. The final straw was accidentally leaving one week off a summer scheduling form, which led to another conversation about attendance. It wasn't about that one incident--it was the realization that this philosophy simply doesn't align with how I believe families of children with additional needs should be treated. The clinicians were wonderful, and the front desk staff were always professional and kind. My disappointment lies with leadership and the culture created by these policies. Families seeking pediatric therapy need partnership, empathy, and flexibility. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience, and we chose to take our children elsewhere.

I can only assume they were double booking so instead of taking accountability for their poor planning, they decided to discontinue services simply because i advocated for my daughter. I was ordered by the court to participate in co-parenting counseling through COPE, which effectively left me with no practical alternative provider. Prior to beginning services, I was informed by Megan that the cost would be approximately $45 per session. I was later surprised to discover that I was being charged approximately $160 per session instead. When I raised this concern, Megan Van Carpels advised me that she would investigate the discrepancy and recommended that I request reimbursement. Despite multiple communications, I never received a follow-up or resolution. I was ultimately directed to contact Headway on my own, leaving me to navigate the issue without any meaningful assistance from the organization. I was equally disappointed with the quality of the counseling services provided. My sessions with Isabel often lacked structure, guidance, and actionable feedback. Rather than facilitating productive communication, identifying areas for improvement, or helping develop effective co-parenting strategies, many sessions consisted primarily of passive observation. As a result, I found myself questioning the value being provided relative to the substantial fees being charged. For a service that is frequently court-ordered and intended to support families during challenging circumstances, I expected greater transparency, accountability, professionalism, and therapeutic value. Instead, I was left frustrated by the billing practices, lack of follow-through, and overall quality of the services received. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this organization.

Allow me to provide some context. My son is a 17-year-old nonverbal individual with severe autism. He is extremely shy and requires a significant amount of time to build trust with someone before they can enter his personal space. Unfortunately, during my recent meeting with Dale Young, it became evident that no exceptions could be made to extend the contract of the current RBT with whom my son has developed a strong bond and trust. He kept stating that he firmly believes that it's important that they are able to work with others we agree as well we are seasoned parents. He's 17. There is rotation happening already in the classroom everyday. I just wanted him to have the best last two years of high school as possible and not have to have a transition happened twice. So at the end of the day, your company and Dale Young do not taken to consideration of the individual human. Having had very negative experiences with other local facilities in the past, we were honestly terrified to trust another rehab center. Thankfully, several people recommended Tampico, and what a difference this facility was. From the moment we walked in, the building felt clean, welcoming, and well cared for. Every staff member greeted us warmly and treated my mom with dignity and compassion during one of the most vulnerable times of her life. Her care team was wonderful. Her CNAs were Helen, Marie, and Romel. Her PTs were Mimi, Deepika, and Nicole, and her OT was Aarti. Her absolute favorites were Helen, Emiliano, and Aarti. The therapy team pushed her in all the right ways while also taking time to educate our family and encourage my mom throughout recovery. When my mom arrived, she could not even sit up independently. By discharge, she had improved dramatically and was strong enough to transfer to John Muir's intensive rehab program, which prior she didn't qualify for due to her level of weakness. Most importantly, we never once felt like her needs were ignored. The staff consistently responded with kindness, patience, and professionalism. The facility truly felt like a home away from home while still providing excellent rehabilitation care. The only complaint my mom had was the food, especially the fish meals, but she is also a very picky cook-from-scratch person. We are incredibly grateful to the entire Tampico team and would absolutely recommend this facility to families looking for compassionate, quality rehabilitation care.

(Part 2 continuation)…read more Once again I had expressed my concerns with our new BCBA, Amber and she suggested we all meet for a meeting in person (Clinical Regional Director, Wai-Ling would be virtual since she is in Alhambra) BCBA, Amber and Program Manager, Ariana and myself to address my concerns and she would get back to me with a date and time. It turns out it would have to be virtual. We had the meeting and right away the Regional Clinical Director stated "we will not be going to be reviewing details of prior concerns" but she wants to review an agreement they drafted. They should have had in included along with all the other forms when we first became clients. Basically it was an agreement that was probably made up right before the meeting and whatever was not on the original agreement that I had signed in the beginning, they just added it to this made up one. Basically they went behind my back and thought I was going to sign a made up agreement. Their service agreement says one thing and they do another thing. Then the Program Manager, Ariana calls one of our RBT's to tell her that we will no longer be a client just so she doesn't come to our home blind sided. I'm surprised they were able to communicate that. First of all she shouldn't be discussing anything about us since they take everything so secretly. Then our BCBA, Amber sends a message to all our RBT's not to be discussing and scheduling or instructor questions with me (once again behind my back). I can say whatever I want at my house. If they have that rule for their RBT's in the center, that's fine but do not tell me what I can or can't say or do at my own house. I reached out for help and support but all I received was stress. Every night I would go to sleep (especially Sunday) and have so much anxiety just thinking what's going to go wrong the next morning. I regret our former ABA therapy recommending clients there. It's difficult enough having to see your child go through ABA and they just made things worse. It's sad how the RBT's get attached to their kiddos and they don't even notify the RBT's when their last day is with their kiddos. They have no heart and don't care for the kiddos and should not be running a business. The RBT's are just a number who have no say and are treated like slaves wasting their time driving from place to place since there are so many mistakes made by the scheduler and the company only cares about making money. Seems like the parents they have as clients are just treating it like a babysitting service. Last but not least, our BCBA, Amber emailed me (the night before) talking about our RBT, Caitlin's last day will be Friday (the next day) knowing that this was approved a month ago. Talk about last minute and no communication. Caitlin (RBT) had thought all her families were notified with enough notice, but not with her kiddos she was assigned with (Amber) BCBA. Caitlin (the original director) needs to come back ASAP or else they are going to bring that company DOWN! FIRSTSTEPS needs to take the first step and GET IT TOGETHER.

Breaking my pelvis was no joke and very difficult for anybody especially the CNA's who attended me for all my needs and toiletries. There was always someone to help me and not leave me alone during my recovery. I found the food satisfactory and always delivered to our rooms on time. The rooms were cleaned every day by a very very efficient lady. She was also very entertaining. I stayed for six weeks and had three different roommates which the last one was very nice and we seem to have mutual understandings. I would recommend Moraga post acute care. The physical therapy sessions were seven days a week for me and the therapist were very thorough and supportive of me to walk again and have the equipment that I needed to support myself without falling. I have been in two rehabs in Nevada. The first after I had a stroke ending and left side deficits and the other for collapse vertebrae in my lumbar region, and neither of these facilities had daily cleaning Moraga post acute care made me feel very comfortable facility took cleaning very seriously .

I have also met with them regarding their social skills group.The MGW curriculum is amazing and we are looking forward to working with the very talented and caring staff. As an added perk, they are located on a beautiful hillside in Oakland with serene views. The waiting area inside is comfortable with ample space for everyone to relax. We drive an hour to see them and it's totally worth it. Highly recommend this agency. What a treasure for our kids!
