Opened in 2019 and inspired by the owners' grandmothers, this establishment located on Ditmars Blvd in Astoria is dedicated to serving its customers homestyle cooking. Acento Latin Kitchen and Bar caters to cuisine from a variety of Latin cultures, including Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Ecuador, and Mexico, but with a very strong Colombian cuisine. My cousin and I came for dinner tonight on a weeknight as first timers. Upon arrival, the interior was nicely decorated with a fusion of Latin souvenirs and family photos, while Spanish music was playing in the background. We were greeted by the staff. For starters, we decided to split the chicken empanadas. For our main entree, we have decided on Ropa Vieja (Cuban-style shredded beef served with yellow rice, sweet plantains, and black beans) and Mini Bandeja Paisa (a mini-traditional country platter with beef, rice, beans, pork skin, sweet plantains, eggs, corn cake, and avocado). The food was totally delicious and authentic, and the taste was right on point! The pricing was comparable to the area. We had an excellent time, and we can recommend this place.

In love with this Restaurant!! Every time I come here the quality of the food is consistent. Great food, awesome flavor and the portions are big! I was craving for some latino food , ofc I was looking on yelp and I found this restaurant. The hostess is was very nice and the servers are fast! The menu is huge ! the drinks are very well made. With the COVID-19 situation the indoor dinning is closed but they have outdoor dinning. I know is winter , is cold but this restaurant has great heaters . Actually, is the only restaurant that you wont feel cold at all! those heaters are great! I been to another restaurant where the heaters don't work ! Food ! Chips with Guacamole - always a good choice for appetizers ! La Reina Pepiada - 5 of 5 ! My favorite Arepa!! Arepa is a traditional Colombian and Venezuelan Food ! This one is with shredded chicken with mayonnaise, avocado , garlic and other condiments. Bandeja Paisa - 5 of 5! Traditional Country platter with a mix of everything ! rice, beans, meat even eggs! Drinks ! Bombay's Classic Martini ! 10 of 10!! its very well made ! Margaritas ! are great!!! 5 of 5 Bathrooms are clean Extremely recommended !

This place is the one I always prefer. I visit plenty of restaurants but here I go the most. The crew is very cordial and the cuisine they offer is so good. I am always happy to have a good meal in this restaurant. I recommend this place with pleasure. This place is doubtless one of the most attractive restaurants in the area. Anytime I visit this place I am absolutely pleased. They manage their very high level service and the topmost level of cooking they serve. You no doubt will love this restaurant. Highly They prepare sensational dishes, they have a rich menu, The chef in that restaurant is well trained, I like very much tasting all their food. The food is always fresh, the service towards the clients is agreeable. I go often to this restaurant and I not even once was unhappy One of my preferred spots to grab something to eat. good location, well organised, and very good customer service. Highly recommended! Very authentic Spanish comfort food!Everything that is offered in this place is homemade, they got a very small staff extremely friendly and helpful . We need support our small and local business! We are facing really difficult moments for small business in Ny lets support the places that we love! Amazing place, great service and amazing food. Great cocktails, it's authentic food.

Delicious and filling meal. My and I thoroughly enjoyed our arepas. The guac was simply flavored and the sweet plantains were perfect. Our arepas were very fulfilling and were easy to enjoy in the cold weather because they have outdoor heating. Mera's Tip: bear the cold and eat your plantains.

chipotle chicken empanada (great) and beef empanada (good)

Great dinner spot! Came here on a Thursday evening with a friend and got seated right away. To start off, I got the Chipotle Chicken Empanada, which was really good. I tried my friend's Beef Empanada which was pretty good too. For my meal I got the Tacos de Pescado which I thought was really good. Had a couple frozen margaritas during our meal and I left feeling pretty good haha. Definitely worth the visit!

Very Friendly staff , I got the frozen margarita. BEST MARGARITA !!!!! Must try this one !!!! I didn't get any food here but the entire time I was there the kitchen and plates walking by smelled very delicious . Must come back and get the bandeja paisa acento!

Big portions for your buck! Get the tostones with chicharron for sure. The place is small but offers outdoor seating. The menu is fairly sized with lots of carne and seafood options. They have your typical colombian platters as well. Overall solid spot

Mehhh I really want to like this place because it's the only Colombian spot in the neighborhood but I feel like the food is subpar. I've been here before and tried different dishes but I can't say I've enjoyed them. I got the arepa acento which had chicharrón, beans, avocado and cheese but I can't say I enjoyed eating it. It had a strange consistency. Some other dishes I've tried where the guac and chips, quesadilla, and empanadas. I do have to say that the drinks are bomb. They are strong. I usually get the frozen margarita. It's a small restaurant with outdoor seating, however you can just walk in and there's usually no wait. The service is also friendly but I would only come here for drinks and small bites.

Mojito

What a nice find not too far from the place we were staying. It was a little bit of a wait but the food was worth it for sure. When seated we had wonderful drinks and chose to get a mojito. I was surprised at how strong they make their drinks. You get your money's worth! The food was excellent. My wife's lomo salteado had fantastic flavor. Steak cooked just rice and the saltiness from the fries and rice tie it all together. My sandwich was also very good but unlike the steak from her dish, mine was a little tougher. Come try this place for sure

I had brought and ate the bandera dish that comes with goat and tripe stew, shrimp ceviche, and rice. Overall, it was delicious and really good. The service there was also attentive and pleasant that they even give me a sweet slice of cake for a complimentary dessert. I couldn't agree more! Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

That's a difference of $16.20, which was more than my $15 entree (steak with rice, beans, and tostones). They took it upon themselves to include a 15% tip on debit ($7.20) after my wife had already tipped with $10 cash (which was returned when we questioned it). They charged us $3 extra for a side of beans that should have been included with my wife's $21 fried fish platter. Initially they didn't charge anything for a $4 lemon beverage that was ordered by a misunderstanding, but once we ordered the flan after the bill came out the first time they corrected that mistake. Granted these are small charges, but the overall feeling we were left with was a bad taste. The bill turned out higher than what we initially expected and was no bargain considering we didn't even order an alcoholic beverage. It felt like we were paying a sucker surcharge.

I'm not going to pretend that I am the best person to determine what an authentic Colombian experience is (never had the pleasure of visiting Colombia), but if this isn't it, I can't imagine what they're missing. The staff speaks to you in Spanish exclusively, which made me glad one of my boys is Honduran. The TVs all over the place are playing what appear to be Colombian music videos that were made in the 80s featuring old men and attractive young women. They've got buckets of Colombian beer and frosted mugs so cold that the beer turned to slush around the sides. They've got a platter called the Bandeja la Berraca that consists of rice, beans, steak, plantains, eggs, avocado salad, little corn cakes, blood sausage, other sausage (amazing), and a giant side of chicharron. Eat and drink to you're bursting, while adorable Colombian kids run around the place. And rejoice that you live in NYC, where these things can be had.

Why 4 stars? Because these arepas were different, but enjoyable…read more --- --- --- To-date, I apparently have only had Venezuelan arepas and wasn't aware of how different Colombian arepas were. Colombian arepas (or at least the ones here) come with a sweet, corn tortilla and are more open faced: to be eaten with a fork. In the past, I've had flour tortillas that are designed more like a taco and eaten as a handheld. So despite the differences, I (and my friends) enjoyed our meal. Let the official record state, I ordered the arepas con queso with chorizo. We had plans to eat our way through Jackson Heights, but because a couple of the places we planned to visit were closed, we actually just mostly hung out here and enjoyed our arepas of the sweet and open-faced variety. It was a good afternoon.

Before this, if someone mentioned arepas, I probably would have confused them with pupusas, which I'd only seen at street fairs and thought of as more of a sweet item. I had no idea they came in savory versions too. I went with the carne asada arepa, and the beef was fresh, juicy, and cooked just right. It's so common for places to overcook little chunks of beef, but here it was perfect. Each arepa is big enough to split between two people, so the price feels very fair. The filling was generous, with beef packed inside and even overflowing out the sides. They also serve the arepas with a rack of five or six sauces to choose from. Some were spicy, and one had a sweet condensed milk flavor if you like a mix of sweet and savory. My go to ended up being this green mayonnaise sauce which I assumed was like some sort of a lime mayo, which added the perfect tartiness to the rich cheese filling.
