Recommend: Yes for a SMALL Ace Hardware filled with caring Staff. Beware of the most atrocious parking lot I've seen since the 70's. And I mean atroooooocious parking! We've all been to many AH stores so the point here is that you'll walk in to an extremely if not ultra cramped store, IF you can snag one of the 7 parking spots?? It begs a serious business question, why on earth would you put an AH 'here'?? Okay, THAT being said, when you look at HOW the store is ran, I've stepped in here numerous times prior to this review and always, and I mean ALWAYS am greeted, and addressed if not numerous times if I can be helped to find anything, from almost every employee you bump into. I very MUCH appreciate that!! The store is extremely limited in stock variables when considering the other extremely large stores here in Tucson but the hospitality is top notch, IMO. Honestly, the store needs to be placed elsewhere since it's right downtown and really could bring in SO MUCH more business if repositioned, but again, that parking lot.... LOL. I love an Ace shop and this one was great for what I was looking for and a few missing items for the kitchen. Certain things were definitely cheaper and other things that were clearly $1 cheaper. Things like soaps and cleaning g supplies cost more than a Target. I loved that they even had some Art Supplies here like puffy pains, acrylic paints, water colors and brushes. I go almost every day and every time I go the two white woman have a problem , rude , they don't have any manners , they hiss hum about everything , they don't like to go in and work , all they do is ring people out and it seems like it's the hardest job , I get it people are rude but it's your job not to specifically when people come in without an attitude, thank you for the rest of the crew there the guys and the one Hispanic woman, has nothing to do with race but unfortunately it seems like it . Simone there in the store is aware of this hopefully it gets better hate to think about going in there but it's a (convenience!) but if they continue I will drive 20 min away and go to Lowell's read more

This is a fantastic little Ace store! You recently moved and I've been in countless times and I have found someone to help me each time. They typically walk me down to the aisle and show me what I am looking for and explain it to me as a layman which is important as I am a layman. The staff was so warm, welcoming and helpful but in such a genuine way that even as jaded and cynical New Yorker, I told my partner we had to give a five-star review as soon as I left the store. Making sure to tell us that we didn't need to leave our animals in the car and they were highly anticipating to be brought in to say hi even by employees who were allergic. Special shoutout to Leslie who went out of her way to call an auto store to find out an answer then when finding out we could use any type of fluid for our car, telling us we can just get it here while still on the phone and catching herself doing so, cheekily saying, "well I guess I just lost you a sale. I'm sorry!" She even took it upon herself to give suggestions and history if the town when she realized we weren't from there. read more

I have always had a positive experience with the friendly, welcoming, and helpful women who work at this location, which has made it easy to overlook the same male employee who each time has been unnecessarily rude towards me, despite his capacity for charm and enthusiasm which seems to only be directed towards other men in the check out line. During my last visit, none of the women were working and so my interactions were limited to this guy and another who incorrectly completed my paint order and seemed annoyed when I kindly asked for it to be fixed. Unfortunately this isn't an irregular experience for women in traditionally "male" environments, nor is it the end of the world, but as someone who is currently making multiple trips to Ace several times a week, I will be avoiding this location in the future. read more

I'm a huge fan of old-school hardware stores, and especially this one. I love that it's downtown and super-easy to bike to. I love that even though there are multiple employees the same guy (let's call him Jim) is always right there to help me, and he both knows where everything is and is funny. I enjoyed his observations on the silliness of colorful dog-poo bags (which they have! and which saved me an extra trip to Pet Bigboxstore). During my last trip here, I bought: A giant bottle of vinegar for cleaning 3 blocks of suet 100s of colorful dog-poo bags (made from cornstarch!) A mesh bag for washing delicate/secret laundry items Spicy tamarind-jalapeño Mexican candy thing that was delicious I almost bought a tube of caulking, which is why I came, but then decided I didn't know what I needed. Just so you know they also have regular hardware store stuff too. And of course they give you free popcorn, which is just duh. When does Lowe's or Home Depot ever give you popcorn? And why on earth not? Anyway, so very happy with my Ace Hardware store experience. You should check it out. read more

You ever walk into a store, and feel like you're bothering the staff? Yup, me too. If you haven't experienced that feeling, try this Ace Hardware. This store didn't have the parts I needed. At least I don't think so, the staff certainly wasn't very interested in helping me find out. In a world where retail is struggling against the convenience on online ordering, human staff is the difference. Since I didn't find what I wanted here, I ordered everything off of Amazon. I may do that for my next purchase too, since it's not worth wasting time and gas to not be helped. I went into this Ace Hardware to have a piece of pipe threaded and because it was dirty the manager gave the weak excuse that because it was dirty, she didn't want to risk "damaging her machine". This is a machine that cuts steel so a little dirt and rust would, in no way, damage a commercial threader. Her bullshit excuse didn't hold for a second and I immediately called her out on it. I went to the nearest Ace Hardware ( St. Mary's Rd. & Grande) and the woman there threaded it with no hesitation. Here's the bottom line, there are many other Ace Hardwares in Tucson and based on this poor customer service experience, I will go out of my way not to patronize this Ace Hardware. read more

I love this Ace, it's unlike any of the other Aces even though they offer the same stuff. It reminds me of way back when, before my time, when small towns had one hardware store and the old owner knew everyone. It's got a very nostalgic feel to it. It's got everything you'd expect in a hardware story plus friendly staff AND DOG FRIENDLY. Not only is it dog friendly, they have treats for them too. Ok, So I know I just did a review of the Campbell Ace, but this one is my "go to" location, its just down the street. The building is very cool looking, think retro Ace. They have 99% of what I need. The only thing they dont have is my 14x25x2 air filter, but pretty much NO one in tucson does. Service is great. Im usually asked if I need help within 60 second of being in the store, and if not, the first person I run into always helps me. I try and ride my bike here (pending what I need to buy) because parking is very limited, Under 10 spots in their 'lot'. But there is usually parking on the street. Hey's hardware is OK for a hardware store. This one happens to be the closest one to my vacation rental. Some of their prices are really exorbitant. But the customer service at this particular store is terrible. I called three minutes before closing, I know that that's not a nice thing to do, but I asked if they could please just bring some logs for the fireplace to the front and I would be there in two minutes. I was less than a block away. The lady told me too bad she has to close at six, and then I can go to the grocery store and pick them up. Unless I was pulling into the parking lot right then. Which I was. They then locked the door at 5:59. Thank you very much for all your help. I will go to Home Depot from now on. read more

I had to get new keys made after my whole purse was stolen. Not in the best mood, and exhausted from replacing and cancelling and filing police reports... I go in here to just do a quick chore. This is my go-to old style Neighborhood hardware store. They pretty much do everything - cut keys, sharpen blades, thread pipe, etc. They also have at least one of pretty much anything you could possibly need from canning jars to rain gutters and they know where all of it is. They have a really small parking lot so the people on the floor are right at the front door to pounce on you, find out what you need, get it for you, and get you out of the store with a smile as quickly as possible. They are also really helpful and knowledgeable - It's pretty much the complete opposite of Home Depot. read more

This is the place to go for basically any home project. Nice sized store with the most knowledgable staff around. It's like stepping back in time to that hardware store your Grandpa always reminisced about. When I had questions that the employee wasn't positive how to correctly answer, they actually admitted it and found the person who knew the answer. Great service cannot be over-emphasized!! It's not just the depth and breadth of the hardware they carry, but the people they have and the knowledge that they carry. Nothing is ever a problem for them: "Hey, I'm rebuilding a 1964 Chevy Truck, got any bolts? Oh sure, the manager Ray says." "I'd like to build a rocket ship for a Tucson high science project, got any aluminum? Yep, says Stephanie, another great manager that works there." These guys are all committed to their job and always have a solution. I love this place and have spent thousands of dollars there. Very poor customer service and strict return policy. Purchased a package of 25 drippers for irrigation system. They would not turn easily to adjust flow. They cost 15.00. When I tried to return them I only had 24 of 25. They refused to accept the return and were so rude. I am not ever shopping there again even though it is in my neighborhood. So much for friendly neighbor service. read more

I stopped in at my "neighborhood" Ace on Saturday to pick up spray paint for a project I was working on. It was my first time in the store and while i was impressed with the store itself the staff working in the store were rude to both my husband and son but the real kicker was the cashier ,when we got up to pay for our multiple spray paints she gave us a look over like we were criminals. I mistakenly thought she didn't see all of our cans, boy she was let us know SHE KNEW about our multiple cans of spray paint. I will never go to this Ace again and would rather travel across town to Lowry's Hardware then waste another dime of my hard earned $$ in a place that doesn' t value my business or my feelings. read more

Looks like everyone is having similar experiences here. The gentleman there helped me find various things I was looking for around the store, and even gave me exact directions to another store when there was something odd that I was looking for that they didn't sell.
