If you're claustrophobic and/or have social anxiety, this is not the Ace for you. There are the entrances on each side of the corner. You walk straight into the cashier counter and if there's a line - people waiting. I just needed spray paint, and the isle was impossibly narrow. Unfortunately when I was looking for my spray paint, somebody else also was looking for spray paint and both being of average build and weight, we still had to side step each other and it was a bit uncomfortable. From my brief experience in here, it seemed like everybody is regulars, everybody knows where they're going, everybody was in and out quickly. Whenever I come to Ace Hardware, it seems like there's somebody ready to help me the moment I walk through the door. I've come here for gardening supplies, cleaners, keys, Birdseed, air, conditioner filters, etc. They have just everything I need for the house. They have a Rewards program if you want to give them your phone number so there's always those little perks. read more

I've given this place to many chances they have to be the worst Ace hardware in all of Tucson! I decided to try my luck again and get a key made and when I checked out the wrong change was given because she couldn't de sphere between a 2 or a 3 and when I told them I was overcharged they acted as if this was some scam I pull and they had to recount the draw. The manager Melissa was rude and disrespectful and even when the draw was counted correctly she just sobbingly gave me back my $1.55. I'm Definitely never coming here again. read more

Very helpful staff. Always ready to help with kindness. They are not the biggest Ace store in Tucson but do have a very useful selection.

Service was good....I normally visit the one on Pima but due to an auto accident obstructing traffic - I brought my Blue Rhino refill here....was surprised to find the cost to refill was $23.90 (Other Ace on Pima $17.99). This is a 33% increase or $5.91. Learned Ace's are franchised and owners set their own pricing - needless to say - get your propane refill elsewhere! read more

I went in to buy 9 volt batteries. The Dura-Cell was marked $6.59, at the shelf tag, but they charged me $7.99. When I brought it to their attention they acted like I was lying but when it turned out to be true the manager said it wasn't their fault I was overcharged and said I would lose my discount and that wasn't true. They are rude and act like you are trying to steal their money. This isn't the first time this has happened. I needed some light bulbs and was greeted by a sweet cat roaming around inside of Ace Hardware! Apparently all of Ace Hardwares in Tucson has cats inside! So that was my highlight. Anyways, friendly people, service was quick and we were helped right away. The price is much better then Home Depot as well! read more

This location closes the earliest I've heard of an Ace Hardware closing. They close at 6pm. This is a half hour to an hour before most people get out of work. Perhaps they only want to sell to repair men/women. As clearly their hours don't lend to the general working hours of a lot of people. I'll remember to just stick to Home Depot! read more

Ace isn't the place for us anymore. While it's staff is friendly and helpful. They have decided to have a cat in the store. My Service Dog and I would stop in for a dog treat and kind people whether shopping or not. Recently I opened the door and was met by a cat that hunched and growled at my dog. After over 20 years of frequenting Al's Ace sadly it's not our place anymore. Cats should require Service train and leashing also. read more

This ACE is NOT THE PLACE. Knowledge, Helpfulness & Courtesy's is given a BIG FAT ZERO!!! Some are not a professional, so please don't ask for help. They can point you in a direction but that's as good as it gets. He's not a plumber, he's not an electrician, he's not a handyman... blah, blah, blah. You get the picture. I use this store at least two times a month. It's very convenient and right in the neighborhood.

I try to go to Ace when I need something, and this review is specific to last weekend's visit, but reflective of pretty much every location I've been to. I'm a single mom. I wear high heels and big sunglasses and skirts. I drag my two kids with me on chores, and I like to tackle "really hard for me but truly pretty simple" home improvement projects. When I walk into Ace, people are probably shaking their heads at me. BUT... someone is always immediately there to help. Last weekend, the gentleman walked me from aisle to aisle, choosing what I needed for the electrical job I had decided was mandatory. He made suggestions ("um, you'll flip the breaker off, right?") and gave me my options, all while chatting with my kids with a smile. We were in and out in record time. I do not get this kind of customer service at other hardware stores. Only 4 stars instead of 5 only because there were a couple of items that they didn't carry, and so I'll have to make another stop at a larger hardware store. Thanks Ace! read more

I went to Al's on Saturday because they said they would price match with Lowes, and the Ace in my neighborhood said they would not. My neighborshood Ace is on 22nd and Kolb. Alice and the rest of the staff at Al's Ace Hardware were personable, competent, and caring. I got what I thought I needed and away I went. They were even friendly to my two little dogs I didn't want to leave in the car. As it turns out, what I got didn't work and on Sunday I went to Ace at 22nd and Kolb to return it with the receipt. They wouln't take it back because I bought it at a different Ace. They said they are independantly owned. I asked if that was really my concern as a customer, and they assured me yes it was my problem. I went back to Al's, spending about 20 min on the road, plus gas to return my item. They took it back with a smile. read more

I have gone to Ace Hardware once in a while for little things that I need for my projects. I have always had an easy time getting what I need. However, each location is different and I take that into consideration. This location was a disappointment and here are my reasons for saying so. Reason #1: If you are going to tackle every customer who walks through the door with "good" service then at least follow through with your claim. Ugh, don't promise to help them with trimming, shaping, measuring, sharpening, or bending an item and then later say...."Sorry I am not able to do that." It's a false promise. ( minus one star) Reason #2: Hiring someone with experience doesn't mean they have to be technically elderly in age. The guy who couldn't fully help me was slow mentally, and I had to speak up loud for him to hear me. It was tough to get a clear idea across to him. So that probably didn't help any either and it was irritating. (Minus one star) Reason #3: Prices are not displayed on everything and had the guy told me my tiny purchase of a single pipe was going to be five dollars, I would have laughed and gone elsewhere. (minus one star) Since Mr. Slow couldn't follow through with his promises I had to drive to The Home Depot... and guess what!? They could do what I asked. They can measure, trim, bend, cut and more. So, I would say I will be going to a different location or at least Home Depot from now on. I don't want to drive around town just to have someone else finish the job from Ace Hardware. OMG this store is awesome! Needed to replace a bathroom fan & Jesus was kind enough to take the old fan off the housing & replace it with the new one. Can't get that kind of service from the big box stores! Thanks Ace! read more

Convenient, but overpriced, but worth it if you are DIY and need some guidance.

I received the worst customer service in this Ace Hardware. I am a landlord and use many hardware stores. But this place is beyond the pale. I WILL NEVER USE THIS STORE AGAIN. I entered the store about 20 minutes before closing and I needed locks rekeyed. I had question about the product and the work they did and was inspecting the locks. It was about 5 minutes after closing. The clerks rudely shouted at me that they were closed and turned of the lights. letting me in the dark unable to see the locks to repackage them. I estimate that they lost a $168.00 sale as I refused the product and the product was unusable as the locks were already changed and could not be changed back so they lost the value of the locks as well. To say nothing of my further business. All other Ace's in Tucson are great. This is a shocker. Poor customer service, little selection of commonly needed supplies for any one who does any kind of real repairs or maintenance. There many good Ace's around. But this one..........NO WAY. To post my review I have to give it at least one star. It makes me sick to give them anything. read more

I've been going here for several years and the customer service has always been very consistent. A couple of the guys who work here really excel at customer service, know their stuff, and always help me when needed. Some of the other salespeople, not so much-- those guys and gals just do the minimum and don't always know the right part that I need to fix something etc., so I just avoid them if possible and find the other guys who I know will actually be helpful. This store usually has the things I'm looking for when I'm in a bind or hurry, and the location is convenient with plenty of parking and easy access. Their prices are very reasonable and sometimes some of the items are just a bit higher than say Home Depot, but you are paying for the convenience of shopping here so it works out. Overall I like this store and will continue to shop here as needed. read more
