Customer service was great. The reason I am writing this is because of a HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. Not just for customers but for staff. Went to exchange my propane tank and they were having some sort of food event outside. There was a pop up tent with a few barbecue grills right next to the big case of propane tanks. No biggie...but DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE PROPANE TANKS was a table with catering trays that had OPEN FLAMES keeping them warm. Less then a foot away. I pointed it out to the staff that there should not be any open flames near a mass pile of propane tanks and he said...."we keep our employees safe, don't worry." I brought an cheap key to be copied. The key broke in the machine. The key was poorly made and this accident was not the operator's fault. The entire staff was more than apologetic; the store manager sent an employee over to my home to replace the lock on my study door! The new lock, keys and labor were provided without cost. Plenty of parking , plenty of items on covered patio in front , certainly a great feature for shade in warm hot weather. Fun inflated animated holiday decorations, colorful Adirondack styled plastic lawn chairs, succulent plants, firewood , everything but valet parking . They always make you feel like they care, even when they are assisting another customer, they let you know when they will be with you. Awesome service today from absolutely everyone I interacted with, as per usual at this ACE location. Despite renovations and obvious change, all three employees who interacted with me were so kind and helpful. I believe Richard(?) did my key fob programming today, and he was super courteous and quick! I shouldn't be saying anything as I worked there. Shopping wise, you'll get great service. Look to the women if you need help they are THE BEST! BAR NONE!! Employment wise, I thought we had an agreement about what I expected and needed from the interview to accept a job, and it took a mere month for all of that to be stripped away. I would have been perfectly fine with them saying they couldn't accommodate me and sending me on my way (at least it would have been honest). Don't say things are doable and take them away. It's not the way to treat people. No holiday pay, no OT pay. I was told my schedule would be static and it was changed (as was everyone's) without the simple consideration of telling people ahead of time. I'm not unreasonable but I will take you to task. You expect me to work a holiday for straight time pay and you drive a Lamborghini? Sorry, that ship doesn't sail for me. Add to that unaffordable health care plans and lousy PTO benefits. I called to make sure this location services chainsaws, was told yes, brought them to the back as directed, and was met by a stoney faced man who ridiculed the request to have the 2 chainsaws serviced. 'Well, they clearly been left outside.' They were not. Then he got his supervisor, more of the same: questioning and belittling. 'We only sell Stihl chainsaws.' 'Then the woman who answered the phone should have told me that.' 'Did you ask her if we service Ryobi?' 'Did anyone tell me I needed to identify the brand of my chainsaws before I bring them in?' On and on. Worse 15 minutes of the week, I can tell you. Got the strong feeling those men do not like women in business attire. read more

Great experience with Mark and his team at Ace! My wife and I visited the store on a Monday and worked with the staff to purchase a Big Green Egg and a number of accessories. We scheduled for a delivery on the following Wednesday and this is where things got a little interesting. I worked with the delivery team to get the grill down to our back patio space... these grills are super heavy. My wife and I had purchased the table that comes with the built-in space for the grill. When we went to lift and place the grill into the table it was essentially dropped at least 12 to 18 inches into place. It was a little scary in the moment wondering if the grill would be okay but also making sure that no one had injured themselves. In the process the grill top came loose and had to be worked back into place by the delivery team. When they were set to depart they made sure to communicate with me to note anything that might be an issue when inspecting the grill. I'm including all of this to make sure everyone understands everything that Mark and his team did to make it right for us. 1. Mark, the owner, shared his cell phone with me so that I could send pictures and communicate with him directly on the issue. 2. When delivering the grill they didn't include the small stand that goes beneath and the wood on the table got a little bit scorched from the high heat during our first cook. Mark had one of his store managers come out the next day to clean up the wood and get the grill set up on the stand. 3. The top of the grill wasn't square with the bottom of the grill. His store manager removed the grill top and replaced it to sit square with the rest of the grill. 4. One of the pieces to the firebox on the inside of the grill was cracked when it dropped into place. They replaced this piece for us! We will absolutely look to Mark and his team in the future for any needs we might have around the house! Great service! read more

One of the best Ace Hardwares in Tucson (along with the 22nd Street location). Mark's has always been a wonderful store, but under the leadership of manager Dean Avery the quality has gone up even more. My husband and I purchased an $800 Traeger 575 Pro grill from them in June, for our 40th wedding anniversary (gift to ourselves--it was on sale so more like $600+ with accessories). So much helpful information and enthusiasm from the staff. However, the grill malfunctioned since day one; I tried everything and while Dean said they would make it right, I had to go through Traeger "customer service" first. It was not a good experience, suffice to say, but in the end it was Mark's Ace Hardware who took care of us (no doubt at a huge loss). Traeger is not a good company. Mark's Ace Hardware is a GREAT company. Wow. They just personally delivered a replacement, I mean what kind of service is that? Unheard of today. I love these guys. Thank you. I stopped in for a few things; Glue to repair a carved dragon. They had a 3M super strength glue that should the trick. Hangers for art. This is for hanging on a stucco wall. The sales person recommended a type I had not seen before, specifically for stucco called hardwall hangers. They had 4 small short nails to hold the hook in place. UPDATE: We tried these hangers and they worked great! Artwork was hung! The last thing was some white Christmas lights that we can hang for a soft lifting effect. They had those too. Love this place! Everyone is friendly, helpful, and if they don't know about something they find someone who does. I went in looking for a part I needed to hookup a new gas dryer. Unfortunately I can't remember his name, but the employee who helped me knew exactly what I needed. The only issue was that I didn't know the exact size of the fitting but he told me if it didn't work to take pics next to a ruler and come back. When it didn't fit, I ran back over there. They were about to close so I was rushing and forgot the receipt. Even though the same gentleman who helped me before was gone, the other employees took care of the exchange with no issues. I had gone to this store since it first opened. I will not go to Home Depot because of their treatment of their employees and the politics of the owner. I do go to Lowe's when I can't find what I need at the neighborhood hardware store. Loew's has good employee relations and customer relations and an owner who supports Veterans with a discount and gives to worthy charities. But I would rather go to local small stores to support them. Unfortunately, I had a deal-breaking experience there a few weeks ago. I made a request to speak to the owner, Mark, about a concern I had. He was in the store and "in a meeting" and refused to talk with me then or later. All of his employees were rude to me and I left the store without purchases. Mark owns several of the Ace Hardware stores in town, so I called around and found one that he doesn't own. While I was on my way home a good Samaritan honked her horn at me so I would be aware of that my license plate was about to fall off. I went looking for the closest Ace Hardware because Ace always gives great service. For the first time I went to Marks Ace Hardware. I told John Luke my problem expecting only to get directions as to which screw to use. This used to be "Al's Ace Hardware." Al sold off many of his stores years ago. This is now Mark's Ace Hardware and has been for quite sometime. It just took a while to convince Yelp Managers that that was the case. Here is my review (under Al's Ace Hardware) that I made when it was actually Mark's. Did you follow all of that? :) If you want cheaper prices in general, then go to a big box store like Lowe's or Home Depot. If you want real assistance and items that those other two stores do not carry, then go to an Ace Hardware store. Ace's prices are a little more expensive, but in most cases, not that much more expensive. If you are not going to be purchasing in bulk, I guess you will have to weigh whether saving a couple of bucks is really worth the drive to the big box store. At the big box store you walk for what seems like miles inside to find what you need and you spend more time in there doing that. Ace is small and comfortable. Then you may spend more time and walking distance trying to find someone to help you. (I find Lowe's a little better than Home Depot in this regard.) At Ace, it is never a problem. There is always someone nearby than can and is eager to help. Ace is the only place that I can find specific bolts, nuts, nails, screws, washers, connectors, hooks, etc. etc. sold individually. You can't at the other places. Ace also carries Craftsman tools. Hey, and as a bonus, grab yourself a free bag of popcorn to munch on while you are shopping there! read more

It's not my favorite neighborhood Ace, which is on 9th st. but it gets the job done (har-har). I stopped in to get a copy of my house key, it only cost $2.16. I did not go with a fancy key, those are obviously are more expensive. Occasionally I will go here for paint, someone is generally around to help. A few times I have had to seek out an employee but generally they're around and knowledgeable. I like their discount of the week section, it's back underneath the helpdesk. You can get some pretty cheap stuff for a dollar or two. I once went in for wood, they do cut it to size for a price. It's just a typical hardwood store. read more

Asked the nice girl at the register if someone could help me. She called and told me they'd be there in a minute. I waited so long that my two year old grew restless and I walked out without purchasing anything and saw three associates on my way out doing what appeared to be busy work. My experience was the worst customer service experience I've ever had in my entire life! I would love for you to review camera footage before even reading the rest of this email. I entered your location on July 3rd around 5:20 pm. I was with my boyfriend. I was in your store for no longer then about 5 minutes before getting so upset and leaving. I was approached by a male employee who asked if I needed help finding anything. After saying "no we are just looking thank you" he then followed us down every single isle we went down. And didn't even do it secretly. After my boyfriend started to notice, i looked up and there wasn't one, but about 3-4 employees all following me. and coming from a customer service background, I made it known I was upset and stormed out. Telling the cashier woman that I was being harassed. Mind you if you have watched the video playback, I didn't even pick up anything besides a hand broom. That I played with and put back. So being this upset, I couldn't leave without saying something. I didn't even make it a few steps before turning around and walking back into that store and asking for the manager. An older man who I guess was the supervisor approached me and disrespectful preceded to tell me he was just doing his jobbbb. And that I must not work for a good customer service business or else I would know he was just providing good customer service. I'm sorry but nothing in my 10 years of customer service has ever taught me that following a client around and profiling a single individual was good customer service. I asked for your name and contact information when the supervisor then said "I'm not getting you shit and you can get the hell out" he then told me "what's in your purse I'm pretty sure I seen you put some things in there" So at this point I'm being accused of stealing, profiled discriminated against, harassed, bullied, and treated like complete shit. I willingly showed him the inside of my purse which had a whole lotta nothing but some trash, my money and wallet, a finger puppet and a little bottle of lotion. Once I did that he finally walked away to get me your card. But in the mean time, I called another location in order to get Marks contact information. I have explained my experience to mark in detail but thought I would follow up by sharing this experience with you as well. Because this was absolutely uncalled for and I will not let this experience go unheard!! I will NEVER set foot inside your location again. And I will forever tell every single client that I see at my location as well as all my friends and family how disrespectful your employees really are. Just to let you know, I'm 5'0, weigh approximately 145 lbs, I have blue eyes, I'm Mexican with curly hair. I had my makeup done nicely, I was wearing off white limited edition Ivy park adidas high tops with ripped jeans and a crop top swear that reads "God is dope" My boyfriend is a 6'0 tall Mexican slim build, man bun hairstyle. Great Folks, Terrific Selection Not sure what bee was bothering the previous reviewer but nothing Geoff said applies to my experience at this store that I have been going to for almost five years. As a tradesman, I can find large supplies of almost all commodity items at a lower cost somewhere else. But when I need something out of the norm, Mark's is one of the first places I go to find what I need as well as the basic hardware items that a person wants to purchase by the unit and not by the box or bag. Yea the piece price might be higher than the bulk price, but it doesn't save money to buy a bunch of something you only need one of!
