Ace Hardware, "The Helpful Hardware Place" Keene, Kennewick, WA - Helpful No More! My son purchased his first weed whacker this weekend, and I went with him to help him get the right tool. We settled on the Stihl Weed whacker and, with extra cord and supplies, we spent over $240 at Ace that day. The salesperson assured us that they "always check their equipment to make sure it works before it leaves the store." They took the weed whacker to the back of the store for approximately 10 minutes and returned, claiming they had started it and topped it off. However, when we got home and tried to use it, it wouldn't start; it was flooded. It never started while in our possession. I've owned yard equipment for years and knew something was wrong. We attempted to return it to the store, but were told there was no manager present, so a return couldn't be processed. The salesperson instructed us to return on Tuesday to speak to the manager. When we returned on Tuesday, we were initially told the manager, Joe, wasn't in the store as he was out doing deliveries. After waiting, we left to run errands, and upon returning, we were informed that Joe was back. However, it seemed chaotic, with a propane delivery person also expressing concern about the delay. Despite repeated calls to the back, Joe didn't appear until 2:30 pm, and when he finally emerged, he seemed dismissive and didn't introduce himself as the manager. He denied our return, accusing us of flooding the weed whacker, despite it never working. It was a disappointing experience, and it felt like the "Helpful Hardware Place" was anything but helpful. Joe at Ace Hardware of Keene in Kennewick, WA, did not prioritize our issue, even though my son had spent a week's worth of wages on a product that never functioned. How disappointing, Ace Hardware. Apparently, everybody but our poor cashier (let's call her Jane) was at lunch as I stood in the middle of a six customer deep line that still hadn't moved when I finally gave up and left. Jane was trying to get her customer a stock check for a cooler that was in the ad but in a specific color and then there was some issue with the CC machine. Jane called for a back-up cashier twice; nothing happened the first time and then there was a back-and-forth on the radio regarding who was at lunch and who was really available. Fast forward a few minutes and I see a woman coming out from the back and then stopping to answer some questions for another employee who was putting away stock. I asked Jane if either of those people could help us and she replied that the woman, Monica, was the one coming out to help. I called over to Monica and was abruptly told "Just a minute!" while she went back to talking to the stock person. I had hoped to run in really quick and get what I needed and get back before my lunch break ended- this didn't happen. Going forward, I am going to avoid this Ace and Monica with her leisurely bad attitude. I can't get anybody to help me at the big orange box, but I sure can get checked out quickly as soon as I am ready (which is 99% of the time). read more

I'm very disappointed with this ACE store. I obtained two propane tanks and had one as a backup. One of them didn't have a rino label and I didn't think twice to ask why. I don't go anywhere else to get propane switched out because they are literally less than 5 minutes away, so I always go there. I put my backup tank in my grill because my main one was finally empty and no fuel would come out, and guess what, it was the one without the label. So I go into the store and I explain that I got this tank as a refill and that it wouldn't work, but that I could not remember how long ago I got it because it was my backup. It was still full mind you, and at first they said no problem. Once I got to the counter after searching for some other items I needed to purchase, a different lady at the counter tells the other employees (I'm guessing she's the manager because she over ruled the others) and changed their decision to swap it out as defective and told me I hadn't purchased any propane in a year, when I was just there 2 weeks prior for my main tank and explained that I had issues with the backup! I didn't make a big deal about it then, but I did explain that I knew I got screwed on the deal because they gave me someone else's tank that was in the cage that had no label. The other folks in the store were nice, but the lady was a stickler and right before I was leaving the store, they said, check with Ranch n home, they might change it. Huh!? You are asking me to go somewhere else where I didn't purchase it and have them exchange the propane tank, but you're not willing to exchange it? read more

By far, the worst Ace Hardware I've ever been to. Good luck getting anyone to help you, or to even find an employee. This isn't a one time experience but every time I've been there. I waited for over 20min today to buy a bird feeder as I had to fin me an employee to get it off the high rack. I couldn't find anyone in the whole store so I went to the register. I asked them for help and the followed me to the aisle and I told them which one. They said they'd be back with a step ladder and then left me there for 15min. I went to find them and they were working the register. I left without buying anything as I couldn't get any help. read more

I went into Ace on Keene to see if they had some rubber cement to use to patch my bicycle tire. I had already walked first to Yokes, then back to Ace looking for it (about 1.5 miles). Locked my bike up outside, because previously they insisted it was against their policy to bring a bike in. I walked in and asked the woman behind the counter where the rubber cement was. She and the other guy behind the counter directed me to the location. On my way over an associate told me I had to leave my backpack at the counter. I was tired, hungry and irritable, so my response was not the best. I told him that I guessed he'd have to arrest me and continued on. I got to the glue, but having my contacts in, I couldn't see very well close-up. They did have (overpriced) contact cement, but I couldn't read the fine print. So I started heading back for help and a big burly guy came up and said I had to leave my backpack at the counter or he would have to escort me out of the store. I asked him why the two people behind the counter didn't tell me when I was there and could have (begrudgingly) left it there while I was there. (The woman behind the counter had been the one who told me I couldn't bring my bicycle in, previously.) He said there was a (big?) green sign on the front door about packs. I said I didn't see it. Later he repeated this. I said all I wanted was some rubber cement. He said he wouldn't help me unless I put my backpack at the desk, so I walked the 15 feet to the desk and tossed it. Then he said it was where I was. I told him I couldn't see, so I'd like him to show me. He took me to the contact cement. Which I later learned has to be put on both surfaces, so it didn't work for patching my tire. I finished my bike ride the next day and stopped to check the sign out. It was on letter sized green paper in a plastic protector which was hard to read with the glare of the sunlight coming in the door. While I understand why they don't want backpacks in the store, and I acknowledge I could have responded better, I don't think they are the 'friendly, neighborhood place' they claim to be. read more

If I can get what I'm looking for here, its my first pick. One, because of its locality. Its nearby and I don't have to fight traffic to get there. Two, because of the smaller size. The larger hardware stores can be fun, but sadly I feel lost most of the time. I like being able to park closer, run in and run out and be done with it. With bigger places its hard to be quick. Three, the store just feels more comfortable. Not much of a selling point to most, but I get irritated in jumbo airplane hangar size stores. So lifeless feeling... so cold... read more

I like to come in here once and a while when I need something from a hardware store and I want to look at guns. They do have some pretty good prices in here. The store itself is a little small compared to the big box stores like Lowes, but the customer service is better in general. It's not my favorite hardware store but I do like coming here. read more

Today I was in ace and this family comes in and makes a big scene not wanting to wear a mask even though it is a new health policy. Ace was so awesome and so considerate of others in this situation! They dealt with the individuals who chose to be so disrespectful of others by not wearing a mask and nicely asked them to wear a mask. They deal with people so well and maturely even when others are rude and disrespectful towards them and others around them in the store. Before purchasing a pool from this store I asked many representatives before buying about their return policy all people I asked said they have an excellent policy and strive to provide excellent service. Right days later and for times attempting to fill the look with absolute failure and my daughter and niece both getting their head stuck under the lip of the pool the site manager tells me they're not going to do anything since the pool is fine and he cannot resale it. The gentlemen is a manager for griggs and ace they clearly only care about their profit and not customers or maintaining a reputable business. I will never shop at Ace it griggs again. read more

Always friendly and helpful, and no wait in finding help either. I like the size of the store, which makes shopping easier. Prices are a bit higher, but not that much. Usually good on having things in stock. Always good in answering questions, and walk you to your item. read more

I will never go in this store again! They were all very rude and basically I was called a liar today when I purchased bird seed like I have been doing for a few years at this store, I gave them a 5 dollar off coupon and it says you have to spend 25 dollars which I do no matter if the seed is on sale or not.. last month I came in and normally black oil seed is on sale quite often but they told me that I couldn't of used this coupon for 5 dollars off because it won't take it off on sale items.. and all I was trying to say was that it was not true that who ever is at register always takes the 5 off and basically the woman in charge was nasty and very rude and said give it to her to get her out of store!! I said excuse me why would you be so rude? Again she goes on to say that basically I'm out of my mind that I could not of used it when 100% sure every time I do and I buy slit of seed not just one bag I buy 50 or more dollars every-time I go in.. I said to her and cashier I'm not trying to cause a problem here I'm just telling you that I always use it.. and they would not be decent.. all the workers ganged up and was very nasty.. I said to them look you know what no problem I don't need the 5 off but I will never come back into this store ever again.. I have never been treated so badly and none of them had any respect or decency what do ever!! Worst business practices I have ever seen in my life!!
