Summer weather reminds me, every year, of the harmonic convergence of wasp season. One particular event has kept me in tune with buying a new spray can right before I use it. Imagine coming out of a cold cocoon only to find wasps have set up a home right over an eve overhanging a driveway. So I went and got my trusty bottle of wasp spray from under the kitchen sink, went outside, and took aim as well as I could after fighting a day long fever. And as I deployed the button, well, the bottle was kinda old, and less than killing the wasps, I managed to anger them as the spray just kinda reached around the area, hit them with fumes, and petered out to nothing but me holding a can and back peddling to the house. Mind you, in flip flops. As a side note, really, flip flops are a bad choice for running -- even criminals know that, and running from things that can move fast and sting... bad bad bad. Now the harmonic convergence: my balance was off from the head cold and fever, so I rounded the corner to my front door and ended up in a bush... and with my pride hurting in the ankle that met the brick planter, I extricated myself only to notice the twins passing my house walking their dog as they pointed to the wasps now in a small cloud between me and the car / driveway. And the walk/limp/run into the house was only thwarted by my juggling a defunct bottle of wasp spray. So the lesson here is not to trust that the bottle from the multi-pack from under the sink (unknown year) is going to work -- it's not wine; wasp spray is better fresh. My yearly convergence-less ritual, is when I do venture out during sunlight hours (like today) and see the wasps have set up home -- at my front door -- I sneak over to Ace and buy one can of spray. And I make sure that I don't have to go back in the house or that I have the option of getting to the house or car safely. Proper footwear is a must along with a wallet and cellphone in case I have to call 911 for myself. read more

Very disappointed trip to find holiday lights. In the past the store was brimming with a wide variety of lights however this year, the selection was from last year. The vibe is lost, and we wonder if there are new owners. I pointed out that their Star Shower was $10 higher than elsewhere, and if they would honor the lower pricing, they declined. Love, Love, Love me some Ace Hardware!!! I know everyone generally goes to Lowe's or Home Depot for their hardware needs, but you really must stop by an Ace Hardware instead. They usually have everything that those two huge stores have, and sometimes they are the only ones that carry parts you can't find at the huge stores. This place has more of a mom and pop feel, and the entire staff is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. You certainly don't have to run through half the store looking for someone to help you like you do at those other stores. Also they have services here you can't get (that I know of) at the huge stores; like getting your screens for windows redone and an actual person to make a copy of a key for you. Upon entering the garden item area, I was approached by a member of staff who asked if I needed help finding anything. I told him what I was looking for and he said he had never seen or heard of what I needed. We walked a few steps further and I spotted what I was looking for. It was just below eye level and very easily seen. Off I went to the cashier to make my purchase, still shaking my head a bit at the guy who seemed willing - but, yeah, not really - to help. I was behind a woman in the queue who was attempting to return an item. The gal at the till, Kobe, seemed bewildered by the transaction, and had to ask three others to assist her. The woman left frustrated, and I'm still not entirely sure she was successful with her return, as she still had the what appeared to be the original in her hands, and was saying something about "the incompetency". My turn came and Kobe rang me up for my purchase. I presented a coupon on my phone that I had received via email. Kobe said she couldn't take it from my phone and that I'd have to return with a printed copy. I informed her that I've used the coupons from my phone at other Ace locations with no problem and she said "we don't do that here". The guy on the other till turned and said to Kobe "yeah, you just have to key in the numbers." She quickly turned to him and said something, he looked at me, said "oh", and turned away from us. Kobe turned back to me and said she wasn't able to do it. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and wouldn't you know it, Helpy McHelperson who first 'assisted' me in finding what I was looking for showed up. He told me that people usually print the coupons (yeah, fabulous, Sparky, but I don't have a printer and have never had an issue at other locations), but that he could do it. To his credit, he did, so five minutes later, I completed my purchase of ONE ITEM. So, yeah, Kobe, it CAN be done. It's not the first time I've encountered an issue with her. The first time, she was unable to help me until she tied her apron. (It took three attempts.) Then, she needed to find her name tag. "Where DID it go? Has anyone seen my name tag?" Name tag found, then it was off to find a pen. Then she had a piece of hair that was in her way. I've never been more exhausted watching someone prep to ring up a bag of vermiculite. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this location. As much as I'd prefer to keep my business local, next time I'll avoid the aggravation and go to Lowes. read more

Just left this store about a half hour ago. Was treated very rudely when we try to returned an item. We had original receipt, package was not even opened. And had just bought the item half an hour or so earlier. ( S shaped hangers, not right size.) Young lady at register was rude, and had a terrible attitude. Like it was coming out of her paycheck! This is the second time we have returned something here, and got treated like crap. We will NEVER go back. And what a shame. This is handy, since it shares the parking lot where I grocery shop. I have been in this store while the cashier had her cell phone on, texting too. Today was the last straw, there seemed to be manager there, or at least an older lady, who noticed that things were not going well. I could spend all day in this shop! They have everything you could imagine, from auto parts, small kitchen appliances, cookware, gardening equipment... wow! The staff constantly roam the store making sure you're finding what you're looking for and are friendly. This is no corporate giant Home Base, that's for sure. I accidentally bought some drawer pulls that were $7.00 instead of the $0.99 ones, I needed nine and didn't realize my mistake till I got outside (I was too busy perusing the goods at the counter). I ran back inside and said "Wait! I didn't want to spend this much money!" Without a question they took back the pulls and refunded me on the spot. read more

This is a place filled with bright, shiny objects that catch my attention. I could walk down every aisle and glare at the rows of merchandise endlessly. It's tiny and cramped, but they have just about everything you could need hardware-wise. I forget its here most of the time and end up going to Lowes/Home Depot where you have to walk a mile to find what you want. Must. Stop. That. Insanity. Shopping at Ace is so much easier, nicer and convenient. On this particular occasion, I was searching for a halogen bulb for my under cabinet lighting. And voila, they have it. Not cheap, especially after I priced it online, but I needed it and I wanted it NOW. That's the price you pay for convenience. Although Ace is a chain, it's not a big scary box store like its competitors. This has a very neighborhood type feel to it and I plan to shop here more often. The worst service I have ever experienced at a business. None of these children working here know what they are doing or talking about. I tried to buy 20+ boxes of mason jars from this place and every other ace hardware I have been to will honor at least a 10% discount (which is about a dollar off per box) but not only did they say no and refuse a sale of 20+ boxes, but as I was speaking to one of the employees he just walks away haha! I literally said "okay it's not like I'm in the middle of a sentence or anything". I have been in customer service for 12 years and now run a business and I can honestly say this is the worst service I have ever gotten. If there is anyone that understand how to deal with the public, it is me. I understand that it is not employees making decisions etc but at least have a smile on your face when dealing with people. Everyone at the store is knowledgeable and so friendly. Their employee Aaron truly went above and beyond for me today. I came in with a broken/stuck screw in my pool filter top, and he helped me remove and replace the part! So sweet and kind and patient. He showed me what parts to use and suggestions on what to do next time. The rest of the store employees are just as nice. I HIGHLY recommend. Everyone was wearing masks and the cashiers were friendly and greeted me when I walked in. I let them know I needed help with plumbing they let me know someone would be with me. An employee bald and wearing a red shirt came to assist immediately he looked like he was annoyed at the fact he had to assist a customer. His tone was short and rude. I was holding an item in my hand and without warning grabbed it from my hand and said "here let me show you" in a combative manner. It took all the energy in me to not take this to the next level. You have an employee that is rude and combative that is working at your location. I have been coming to your Ace for 8 yrs and I have never i mean never been so disrespected and disappointed with the level of service provided to me. I dont live nearby i go to this Ace because they usually have incredible customer service. With all thats going on and over a million people on unemployment I would think an employee would be appreciative that they are still employed and would showcase that in their daily tasks. read more

I had a small project which required some special screws and hardware. When I presented the project to the manager, he literally stopped what he was doing and assisted me until I found and even completed the project. Ace is one of the few hardware stores that still have a huge selection of specialized nuts, washers, screws and bolts. I've used that particular store on two occasions to find similar hardware and each time the staff have really helped me out. Their customer service is second to none. Normally, this is my to-go store, especially for products currently hard to find that are related to corona-virus. The volume of products stocked is amazing and the employees are polite and helpful. However, I was extremely disappointed to see one employee with no PPE covering his mouth/nose. He was wearing a neck tube which is fine, but it was pulled down around his neck--not over his mouth and nose. I saw him a week ago and about a month ago with his mouth and nose covered, so why not today? Isn't that a state law for businesses? He walked up to customers, including two senior-citizen customers, and talked to them without pulling up his neck tube. This young man really tried his best to look like he understood what I needed, but it was clear to me that he was new to this. Finally, he fessed up and explained that it was his first week. I appreciate this young mans honesty. He told me to hold on while he went and got someone that had a little more experience with the parts that I needed. The store manager allowed a salesperson to service a customer who interrupted the salesperson who was at the time in the process of assisting me, expecting me to wait for the interrupter's needs to be satisfied first. I objected and grew increasingly vocal, whereupon this manager demanded that I leave the store. At no time did the manager direct the employee to return to assisting me.
