Extended Review: I was you - I didn't have anyone who knew a floor installer for hardwood, and I was trying to google-fu my way into finding one. I stumble across Ciprian, see the 5.0 google rating at 360+ reviews, and think either "this guy must be amazing" or "he's got a great review bot setup." Turns out he's just that good. I sent him an email about wanting to add hardwood flooring to two bedrooms in my Chicago condo, ideally matching the existing hardwood flooring throughout other areas of the home. He responded within the day with a rough estimate, and within 3 days made a visit to take measurements and produced a precise estimate that night, along with a diagram of what wood species my floor was and what he recommended. The next day, we had the install scheduled for 3 weeks later. He set expectations upfront that the color wouldn't be a perfect match since it wouldn't be the exact same wood, exact same stain, and all the flooring wouldn't be installed at the exact same time. Ciprian delivered the flooring a couple days after that. I didn't know this, but apparently it's best to have the wood acclimate to where it gets installed prior to being installed (for expansion / contracting based on temp / moisture). Ciprian knows this, because Ciprian knows wood. On the first day of the install, him and his partner had the carpet removed hardwood slinging immediately while also replacing some old base plywood boards free of charge; they finished installing the boards in both rooms that first day. oved When it was time to stain, he wanted me there to approve it - he mixed 5 different stains and placed them throughout the rooms to compare lighting with the existing boards. He then went back and forth tweaking the best stain making it darker/lighter until he got the perfect match - it was a point of personal pride to try and match it as close as possible. Ciprian is professional, punctual, responsive, diligent, efficient, and passionate about his wood species (which is a massive green flag for the guy installing your hardwood) and most importantly about the quality of work he provides. He and his team finished a day early, matched the new floor's stain against the current floors perfectly, and left me with a new standard for contractors that's going to be really hard to measure up against. If you made it this far, you can take the final step and shoot an email to Ciprian for whatever project you have because you've found your guy - he is him.

In the closets, they were sloppy with the corners and didn't put as much care as the more visible parts of the house - it's true that people aren't studying the corners of closets, but we didn't love that. He does charge more than a few other quotes I received, but his rates reflect the quality of his work. He is very responsive and laid down all of the stain options I was looking at in 4 different rooms throughout my house so I could really see how the color looked in different lighting conditions. He was also able to seamlessly fill in all of the cracks in our floors making them look brand new and did the entire house in less than a week! Make sure you do your research on whether or not you want Synteko for your finish - we ended up going with a water-based finish since we have a dog and little babies crawling on our floors and didn't want to risk the toxins, but I would definitely trust Johnny with the finish if you're interested in it. Finally, about a month after moving in, one of our stair treads broke off and Johnny was able to come and replace it in a matter of days - he asked for the measurements ahead of time, so when he showed up at 8am, he already had the tread pre-cut and was done with everything within the hour. His work is truly phenomenal and I would recommend him for any hardwood needs you have!

Update: I hired Oliver with Olivers flooring (773) 587-7571 to work on my ugly old stair issue…read more Oliver removed the old crunchy carpet and we realized that the stairs were pretty old and had a lot of glue, paint, staples, nails etc. the best option would be to install new risers and treads, including replacing the landing. He also raised the landing as it was too low and removed the short railing. Oliver did such a fantastic job. My stairs look beautiful. Oliver was easy to work with, prompt, extremely detailed and kept a very clean site. He matched the stairs perfectly with the newly installed flooring in the rest of the house. I would highly recommend him for anyone's flooring needs. He is a perfectionist, takes a lot of pride in his work and is an overall nice person. I had my carpenter (who is also fantastic with tile) build a new railing and he also complimented Olivers stairs for being perfectly straight.
