I call "Technosmart" and the gentleman stated sure he has a power cord. I took a lift over and he graciously just gave me the cord. I would not have been able to get a power cord until the following week. Technosmart saved my day - Thank you!

I tried to re-boot the computer and walk through Microsoft's guidelines for restarting the operating system, but nothing worked. On the road without my my data, I was clearly in a very bad position. As a member of Geek Squad's technical assistance program, a membership I highly recommend, I was told their techs only work on situations in which they can remotely access a computer. Since my computer wouldn't re-boot, that wasn't an option. The Geeks told me to bring it to the nearest Best Buy. Having done that in the past and waited days & days for them to get to my computer, I decided against that course of action. Instead, I sought out a local computer shop with the capability to assess and hopefully fix my computer problems. At 8:00 am, the start of store hours, I brought my failed computer to TechnoSmart in South Miami | Coral Gables. I explained my problem to the store's tech supervisor, Nolan Delaney, and he assessed it on the spot - defective hard drive! That was exactly the diagnosis I had hoped not to hear. Ahhhhh! Because the drive no longer functioned, a great deal of work and expense would be needed to restore my system. I needed the data to be retrieved from a drive that no longer operated, the old data to be copied to a new drive, a new drive installed on my computer, a new Windows 2007 operating system, and new Microsoft applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc... All records of my Windows purchases were back in New York, so I needed to buy everything again and on top of that, I needed it all done fast, very fast. Nolan, the tech supervisor at TechnoSmart was fantastic. He scanned my hard drive, called to informed me that he could retrieve the lost data that same day, export it to a new drive and install a new drive to my computer. In addition, he loaded all the new software, and configured my computer and re-established everything just as it was before my computer blew-up! Nolan did all this the same day, just unbelievable service. In addition, Technosmart charged me a very reasonable price for the service, new hardware & software. At the end of business hours that same day, I had a fully restored hard drive and fully functioning computer. I can only say thank you, thank you, thank you to Nolan. If anyone in Miami, visitor like me or resident, has computer issues and you're seeking highly skilled computer techs to fix your problem quickly and a fair price, TechnoSmart near the University of Miami is the place to go. Be sure to ask for Nolan - he's THE MAN! Thanks for all your help, Nolan!

Ended up going with another outfit and paid less than half what I was quoted by SERT, and when I informed "Todd" from SERT that I had paid $400. (which would have been $300. with the outfit I went with, except that my drive was encrypted so it cost an extra $100.) and recovered all of my data, Todd replied (after-the-fact of course) that I would have paid less with them, which is absurd based on that he was arguing beforehand about how his $899. fee was reasonable. It would appear that there are "two" Todds, because sometimes he replies with somewhat helpful messages and other times seems to be irritated and writes negative emails that appear to stem from insecurity and resentment that other companies out there are thriving charging far less for the same services. My advice would be to avoid SERT at all costs - from what I can see, this is another of those outfits that gets hold of your broken drive and then extracts whatever they can from you. My review is based on the inconsistent quality of customer service and that they quoted me $899. and assured me that no one could do the job for less, and then had the gall to try and claim that they would have done it for less, after I did find another outfit that did do the job of 100% data recovery. Very unprofessional attitude. In sum: this is how the "data recovery game" works: most all of these guys are more crooked than a barrel of snakes and will extract as much as they can out of you once they have your drive. Some will quote a very low initial price and then once they have your drive will quote something like three hours of work at average $300. per hour - others like SERT will quote you around a thousand right from the getgo - in sum, most of these guys try to get the magic figure of around $1000. from you. If you can, as I did, find a place with great reviews and a flat fee that is reasonable, go for it. Yes, data recovery is not cheap, yes it will cost you a few hundred dollars, but no, there is no reason to pay more than that, not even for "chip off" USB drive recovery, it still should not cost more than a few hundred dollars. Do not pay more than a few hundred regardless, hold your ground, and you won't go wrong. I gave them two stars (versus just one) because SERT was up front about price gouging - versus some of the others that lure you in with some hope that they will charge little, and then end up charging as much or more than SERT anyway. P.S. Be wary of five star reviews for companies that come from Yelpers with just a few reviews....

Our external hard drive with over a TB of data was 80% recovered and the turnaround time was less than 24 hours. The 20 years of videos, photos, and music was worth every single penny. Yes, there are cheaper places out there, BUT my IT friends all had the same recommendation, SERT. I did a Yelp quote with another business and even they recommended SERT. I would absolutely use Todd again. Again, yes it is super expensive, but this man has an amazing skill set and it is worth the price.
