We made an appointment at 9:30 am to check an over heated car. But later two other cars arrived and said he will have to service those cars over mine when we clearly made a reservation. He just kept on guessing what the problem was for the overheating. I think he ended up damaging my car rather than repairing it. The owner is a liar hypocrite and just wants your money. Do not come here for your smog check. I came here via yelp yesterday to get my smog check after figuring out my regular place was closed this past Saturday. First off, it was hard to understand Mr. Park because he has a thick accent. He made me wait inside while he started the smog test. A few minutes later, he came in to tell me I failed the test because he couldn't find the front oxygen sensor. He kept insisting that when my car got serviced in the past, the workers might've forgotten to put the sensor back in. He made me pay $38 upfront and told me to come back with an oxygen sensor within two weeks and he'll charge me $14 to retest. Definitely trying to get more money out of me. I ended up purchasing a new oxygen sensor and had a friend try to install it. Once he opened the hood, he told me I already have that oxygen sensor installed in the front and the rear. I ended up going to a new smog check station without changing anything of my car & sure enough, I passed. Mr. Park doesn't know what he's doing- avoid this place, save yourself some time and go somewhere else. read more

I was a customer of ACE more than 15 years ago, Steve did a good job to repair my car back then. Since I moved to South OC, I didn't visit Steve's shop much due to distance. I did struggle to find a good trustworthy mechanics. Today there was an issue with my BMW 330, I drove it back to Steve after talking to my friends who is a long time customer of ACE. Steve still remember me and spend a lot of time and effort to diagnosed my issue although I haven't been there for over 13 years. Still trustworthy and good services. Like one of the earlier reviewer said, the owner cannot be trusted with performing smog check (and I wouldn't trust him with anything else either). Only after he failed my car for a routine smog check, I came to yelp to find a surprisingly similar experience posted by one of the earlier reviewer. A few weeks ago my registration is due for renewal and smog check, so I took my 2003 corolla to this place, after calling a few other places for price comparison. He quoted me $35, and and that's what I based my decision on. I figured it's just a smog check, what can go wrong. The car is well maintained and not showing any signs of problems. I took the car to his shop, he proceeded to do the smog check. Just a few minutes later when he was still performing the test, he told me "I don't think your car will pass the smog check." This is BEFORE he finished the test. When he eventually wrapped up the test, sure enough the car failed. He then proceeded to explain how he knew the car was going to fail, and recommended throttle body cleaning, air filter change, and other miscellaneous work that total up to $200. I smelled something fishy and let him have his $35 without performing any of those recommended repairs. The next stop for me was a random STAR test only station (Ace Auto Care is test/repair station). Without making any repairs to the corolla, it passed the smog check with no problem whatsoever. On Steve Park's failed test, the HC PPM was 98 (limit is 64), and on the subsequent test HC PPM was 46. Same day, same car, within 1 hour of each other. Do I think he sabotaged the test? YES. So he can throw in a "FREE" retest and charge you for repairs that you don't need. read more

This place is a small auto repair shop in a plaza with like 8 others. I havent tried the other shops, but i know i can trust this place for all my auto repair needs. Hes honest and will not hesitate to tell you if you really dont need to repair something right away. The only downside is he gets pretty busy and you may need to wait a while or some back another time. read more

You know people always say it's hard to find a honest auto mechanic? Well, you have found him, Steve Park. I first came to Ace Auto about 5 years ago after my uncle recommended Steve, and I have been coming here ever since. If I can only use one word for this review, it would be "trustworthy." Location: This is one of many shops along Valley Blvd... very convenient to get to. But if you're stuck here, then there's not a whole lot you can do. Steve: Steve is just plain awesome. He's very honest and tells it like it is. I don't want to admit it but I know nothing about cars. Steve makes everything easy to understand and shows you exactly what he needs to do. Sometimes, he'll tell us NOT to do something. When was the last time your car mechanic said no to a job? Steve is reasonable. For example, our Acura MDX is leaking some sort of oil (see my extensive car knowledge?). He told us that it'll cost a thousand or two to fix it.. but nothing will happen if we don't fix it. Little things can really tell you the personality of a man... Once, he offered to let my wife borrow his own car so that she can go somewhere. Another time, he turned on the air-conditioner in the office because my kids were waiting. You can't go wrong if you go to this place... read more

I visit ace auto several times with different issues, and the owner is very honest and very friendly. My car had repetitive problem and to compare other auto shops he charged me a lot less than other shops and problem solved quickly and inexpensively. It was very impressive and I don't have to worry any more with the same problem. So, I highly recommand this auto shop for especially women because in my experience most of auto shop overcharged when female driver visit alone. Also, he explained about problems easy and kind even I do not have knowledge about the car. My family and my husband's family also visit ace, and we are all satisfied. read more

Stay away from this place!!! The owner (Steve Park) is a crook. I went there in the morning a month ago to do a smog test for my 2004 Sienna. There are other auto care shops next to his, but he is the only one in the block that does smog test. After asking his price and agreeing to it, he scanned my DMV paperwork to start the process. Then he asked me if my van has the 3.3 litre engine. I said 'yes', and he told me it would be hard to pass. He said the 3.3 litre engine is very sensitive. That should have been a red flag for me. I told him Toyota is well known for clean burning low emission engine. Also, the last time I did the test (2 years ago) it passed without any problem. In fact, I also have a 1999 Sienna that still pass the smog test without problem. I had made sure the engine was hot. I drove around for 20 minutes reaching up to 50 mph before I got to his place, and I left the engine running all the time while talking to him. He positioned the car on the test equipment, put the sensor into the exhaust pipe, and proceeded with the test. After about 5 or 6 minutes or so he came out of the car and removed the sensor from the exhaust pipe, walked around for about 2 minutes, and sticked the sensor back into the exhaust pipe, and went back to the driver side and proceeded with the test. Then he called me. He said "I have had a lot of experience with smog test, so I usually know before the test ends whether it is going to pass or fail. With you car, I have a bad feeling that it is not going to pass". I just kept quiet. I wanted to know what else he had to say. He spent another 5 minutes and ended the test. We waited for the test result, and when it came it says that the test FAILED in the HC category. The maximum limits for HC are 49 ppm and 32 ppm (at 15 mph and 25 mph respectively). The reading for my car were 71 ppm and 87 ppm respectively. He told me he knows what to do. First, he said he needs to do the "Full throttle cleanup". The price for the job is $120.00 and he said that was a discounted price. Afterwards he would retest the car, and if it still fails he needs to replace the Oxygen Sensor. The price for the job is $200.00. So the total cost could be up to $320.00. I paid him the $31.75 smog test fee without the certificate (since it fails) and got ready to leave. He looked at me and asked "What are you going to do?". I told him I would go somewhere else and took off. I was so sure that the car should pass. So during lunch time on the same day I took the car to another smog place. I took the car to another smog place in the same area. I showed the the guy the result from the earlier test, and asked him if there is any restriction from DMV that I would have to retest at the same place. He said 'No', so I asked him to perform the smog test WITHOUT MAKING ANY CHANGES TO THE CAR AT ALL. He performed the smog, and IT PASSED. We compared the results, and it was like day and night. The reading for the HC this time were 10 ppm and 6 ppm, way below the maximum limits of 49 ppm and 32 ppm. That night it suddenly hit me. I mentioned that Steve removed the sensor that goes into the exhaust pipe in the middle of the test for a couple of minutes and reinserted it. I remember the guy from the second smog place simply stayed in the car throughout the test process. That was one difference I noticed. The next morning I called the second smog place and asked if the sensor can be removed from the exhaust pipe during the test. His answer confirmed my suspicion. With that I called Steve back. First I told him that I took the car for another smog test at another place without making any changes just 2 hours after it failed. I told him that it passed the second time and the numbers were not even close. Then I told him that he cheated on me by removing the sensor from the exhaust pipe in the middle of the test, just enough to cause it to fail so he could extort more money for me for the made-up problems that he caused. I could hear him mumbling all sorts of things trying to deny what I told him, and refusing to refund my test fee when I asked him. I hope nobody goes to him and put him out of business of cheating-on-people. read more

I've been coming here for about 2 years now for smog checks. The owner is very helpful and came across as extremely helpful, and I was in & out in about 15 minutes. I need a lot of work done on my truck, and I'll more then likely be going back to this location and mechanic because he seems to know what he is doing. And I believe he can help me with a lot of auto issues with affordable prices. The parking is minimum and I would advise going towards the end of the business day, because it's less busy during that time. read more

Came in today for a mandated smog check. Steve was very friendly and said it would be about 20 minutes. Said he liked my car, we chatted for a few about his golf game. Low an behold I was outta there in like 15 minutes. I will be back with my other cars when they need smog or service. PS. Mondays are generally slower here if you can manage it. read more

We have taken our cars here for a few years now. Standard stuff like oil changes, tuneups, and smog checks when required. Every experience has been professional, friendly, and above board. Seong, the owner, is friendly and efficient. As for pricing, he's more than fair. Like all respectable mechanics, he lets you know of any potential repairs that might be needed due to normal wear and tear, but he never pushes it on you. I appreciate that approach. Who wouldn't? It's the same approach that you get from your doctor or dentist. I see there's a couple reviews that dinged him because their car failed the smog check. I hope people understand that that happens. Legitimate places are only reporting to you what the state approved machine is saying and make suggestions on what is needed to be done in order to pass. So dinging him for that or his English, which is fine, is misleading. There are plenty of mechanics out there, it's freaking So Cal, but we've been extremely happy that we found ACE! read more

I went here a couple times with my Honda for an oil change. Price was normal. He did it quickly. When I got a new car, I thought to go back for the oil change. Price was normal. But what got me was every time I was there, there was always something else that needed fixing. Why I didn't notice it before? I'm a girl who doesn't know anything about cars. I just believed it. What is worst is I accepted the jobs as ok. When I got new brakes and the rotors were fixed too, it would squeak so loudly at every stop. I was so embarrassed. I took the car back. The owner said it does that when newly replaced. It was almost 6 months after use and still it squealed. The owner didn't do anything but just say it'll go away. I asked him to check. He found more "problems" with my car. I left. I was taken advantage of way too many times. Don't go here. He adds "problems" when there aren't any. took my truck for a busted spark plug and turned out that we needed to retread and install difrent size spark plug the owner was verry helpful and so was his assistant Jose, Jose did everything he could to replace the rest of my spark plugs even though they were pretty much welded on from having them for so long and the owner Steve gave me a Great deal on the whole tune up package including the repairs i Strongly REC A+++++++ ASK FOR JOSE he is bilingual Spanish/English and is verry cool and Honest guy =) read more
