Took my in-laws 2016 Subaru Forester to get diagnosed and possibly get major work done. Both the used car guy(Of course!) and a different repair shop told my father in-law that there were major leaks which would cause problems. The used car facility(Of course!) wanted to pay him $4-5K under blue book. The other repair shop would have charged him $4K for the so called problems. Before I made it home, I was contacted by the owner of Fuji Auto. He stated that there were no major problems, just a small stain on the valve cover. #105 for 2021 I found Kay and Fuji Auto way before Yelp existed. Back then it was frustrating to find a good mechanic. I had gone through several mechanics only to be sorely disappointed in a needed repair not repaired. Waste of time and money. Reading the other reviews you'll see there are many long time customers over 20 years. There are some interesting stories to read here too. I've gotten to know Kay and Fuji Auto for 26 years myself. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I always feel like I'm dealing with a professional race team that really cares about you and your car. Kay came as a recommendation from a good friend mine who heard about Fuji Auto from a good friend of his. Yup good friend tips is how we learned who was good and who was not back then. My friend told me his story. He had recently bought a Sierra and brought it in to the dealer for a schedule maintenance tune up. Car was only about a year old. Everything was fine when he brought it in. After when driving it out he could hear a rattling noise so he brought it back. The mechanic told him what the problem was and gave him an estimate of $2000 to fix. My friend couldn't believe what he was hearing and did not go through with the repair. He told his friend about it and got referred to Kay. Kay took a look at it and figured it out quickly. A mount was loose for the radiator. Kay tighten it up. Problem fixed no charge. Wanna guess how my friend felt after that? He continued to take his car in for maintenance work. He couldn't get out of it. He never let the dealership repair anything after that incident. I needed to get a repair for my car and went around getting quotes. I wasn't happy with any of it. I do have an understanding how a car works and have worked on them in my younger days. Yes, they've changed a little but not too much where you can put a spin on it that I wouldn't know. I didn't go to Kay right away because I had moved away from the area. The problem was transportation. I asked a friend for help and was happy to see Kay again. I told him what the problem was. He immediately told me what had to be done and would take a week. He gave me a quote and I shouldn't have been surprised but I was. It was less than what I was expecting. It took 5 days but it was worth it. He purposely over shot how long it would take because some times you never know what you might find when you do the repair. I understand that. He told me of things I need to watch for and gave me an estimate of how much life I can expect from my old car. I love my car. There were other minor repairs taken care of Kay didn't even mentioned or charge me for. Like my center mirror kept falling no matter how I tighten it. That was fixed. The driver's seatbelt some times would get stuck. Not any more. If you need advise Kay is good to get that from. He'll educate you and then give you his suggestions where to go. I had an okay experience here. Both good and bad. I recently had my alternator & serpentine belt replaced here at Fuji Auto after my car was stalled in an autozone lot nearby, which ironically was right after I had driven almost an hour of heavy traffic to get home from an affordable mechanic in garden grove that had just replaced my brakes. I assume they do quality work here since they are Japanese guys specializing in Japanese cars, which usually gives me peace of mind to rely on fixing my old 2007 Lexus is250. The main issue I had at this shop is when I 1st called for a quote, it seems that it was the owner who quoted me for roughly $40 less than the 2nd quote from one of his employees when I called again the next day. That 2nd time I called, the employee said the owner Kay was on vacation and disregarded it like he didn't believe me that the quote didn't match. It sounded like he didn't want to even at least leave a note for the owner to confirm the original quote once he was back in office. It may not seem like a lot for folks who aren't struggling but to me it really hurt my feelings and my wallet's feelings. I didn't try to argue with the worker bc I just hate arguing in general, so I still decided to bring in my car to give them a 2nd chance. I appreciate that they were fast with the service. I was so happy my alternator & belt got replaced in less than a day but unfortunately, I arrived super late after business hours to pick up my car and was VERY grateful that the employee waited for me. I was stuck in extremely congested traffic & Google maps was glitching & kept rerouting my boyfriend & I in the opposite direction of the shop. I verbally appreciated his time & patience & explained the traffic & gps issue when I arrived but he laughed annoyingly as if he didn't believe me. Really hurt my feelings again & cried at a business for the 1st time in my life. It was embarrassing but I still respected him for his time so I paid the full price of his bigger quote AND tipped him with all the extra cash I had on hand (~$23) even after the quote discrepancy. I hope he realized then that I was telling the truth but who knows. I'm not sure if I'll consider coming here again, since there are many other auto shops to try out, including Japanese specialists. If the employee would've at least acknowledged the owner's original quote, I would no doubt become a loyal customer & recommend him to everyone. For now, I'm not sure if I'll come back. read more

Firstly, I can tell the business owner takes great pride in the work that they do for Japanese vehicles and I can appreciate that. I brought my car in to get serviced and paid close to $900 for the work done. AC was working fine before I brought it in. The next day i notice my ac (cool) setting is not working. I call back and explain the situation. The owner said to bring the car in they will take a look. I drop off my car and they call me later and say they couldn't figure out and they charge $160 for diagnosis and told me to be prepared to pay $1k to fix it. I said right now I do not have the budget for a complete fix and asked if they can check the connector or fuse and do a quick temporary fix and I can bring it back when I have enough funds for a full fix in the future. It was a flat out no from the owner, who sounded very annoyed when I asked if they could do a quick fix. They defended their work saying they did the job right Tuesday when I brought it in, and that this is a different issue. I completely understand and respect where they are coming from and take pride in what they do. So I took my car to a different shop. A quick temporary fix was definitely possible and the different shop did it for less than what Fuji Auto charges for diagnosis. Although Fuji auto does great work too, do not come here looking for any quick fixes as they will not lower their standards based on customer needs. Unfortunately I went back because of some minor car trouble, I was called 2 times for "urgent fixes" that should be taken care of. They tried to charge me 80 dollars to patch a tire, you can patch a tire for $20 easily. They called back to ask if I wanted new premium brakes that would cost $160 total. When I declined both, the drop in kindness was apparent. I paid $240 for an oil change and rotor resurfacing, along with taking a brief look at my batter terminal. They were professional, but I won't be coming back here anytime soon, since they were rude when I picked up my vehicle. It also took 5 hours. This place is a ripoff now sadly. read more

I love this place! I first brought my Toyota Prius in 2021 because I was looking for a mechanic that would have a deep understanding of my hybrid car, and this place seemed to be highly regarded and specializes in Japanese cars. What impressed me first and foremost is that while the owner is elderly, he communicated professionally in English and took care to explain technical issues to me respectfully and patiently. He was very nice, efficient, accommodating, all without being rushed. He also gave each new customer a service record card which in my opinion is immensely helpful, because it lists the specific things that requires maintenance at certain mileages. There's a comfy waiting area with sofas and reading material if you need to wait around to pick up your car. Another thing that impressed me was how affordable the service was. It might be due to the fact that Fuji Auto is located next to a bunch of other car mechanics, so it has competitive pricing. Regardless, I have become a loyal customer of Fuji Auto due to their amazing service. I knew exactly where to bring my car again this year when I needed to get the major service at 60k miles. This was by far the most stressful car service I have had, but Kay was able to bring in his promise to help fix the car and his customer service saved this review from being a low rating to a perfect 5. So far car is okay. Update may happen if something changes. So I had a 2008 Lexus IS250 needing it's transmission rebuilt since Check VSC Light and Engine Light was on. Got many places to check what was going on and many gave quotes and diagnostics as to what was needed to fox the car. I decided to go with Fuji auto as they had a decent quote compared to others and this place was recommended. I bring in the car to get it serviced and he said it will take a week. Okay no problem, makes sense, it is a big job. So I wait and when time to pick up, we have a problem. He needs more time because shifting is not correct. So we wait a few more days. Still not ready and other problems arise. The transmission housing is warped so they need a new transmission rebuilt again. This takes another week or so and still it's not ready, car needs new reprogramming of computer. Now I'm thinking okay what the heck is going on with the car?? It comes to a point where it's been well over 3 weeks and I still didn't get the car back. Finally today after a few more fixes with sensors and such he says it is all ready. I go to his shop and we get to talking. Guess what he says, a mouse was living in the engine bay or something and was chewing up the wires and causing issues with the car. Now in my opinion, this is unheard of. This is a first for me and I couldn't believe it at first. However it makes sense because I did find a dead mouse in my garage not too long ago when I still had the Lexus. So his story checks out. I give Kay a 5 star because he did his absolute best to make sure it was up to his standards and that the car is in great condition to drive. He honored the original quote of the repair and it makes me feel happy that he did that. All the other repairs that they did ontop of the transmission rebuilt would have cost a pretty penny. He did a good job on my car and is quite knowledgeable. I am leaving a lower review due to customer service. From the first phone call, the owner was a little bit rough. Whenever I asked a question, there would be a long silence on the other end of the phone, followed by an aggressive response that made it seem like I should have already known the answer. When I would ask clarifying questions on price, he would pause, then respond really combatively as if I was trying to bargain or get something on the cheap (I never asked for a discount - I had purchased my own parts online, and was trying to understand if I would save money using my parts or his. I actually wound up using his.) At one point, I even said "hey man, take it easy", to which he responded "I am easy! I..." and continued like I was trying to rob him of something. Maybe it's because he had just had Covid when we talked (ended his quarantine wednesday, I met with him Friday) and might not quite have felt like himself, but I really felt like I was on parole.
