I went here due to all the yelp reviews and was pretty disappointed since their pricing wasn't nearly as good as others have stated. I also didn't find their customer service at all deserving of 5 stars and was average at best. I knew what needed to be done to my car and looked up several youtube videos to see if I could do it myself, but decided to go to a mechanic since it wasn't something I felt comfortable completing myself. I didn't need an explanation of what was going to be done, but after the service was over, it would have been nice if he showed me the work or walked me through what was complete other than just handing me my keys (the wrong keys at that interestingly). I have a 2002 Toyota Camry that had a Check Engine light with a P1135 code, which I got from Pep Boys who will check the code of a Check Engine light for free. This was the 3rd mechanic I visited and the most expensive. Why did I go here then? Well, my dad who was driving me around to take me home while my car was getting repaired didn't want to go back to the other mechanics so I just bit the bullet and went here. The first mechanic told me it would cost around $250. The second mechanic told me it would cost $210, and this one told me it would cost $260. The prices weren't that different so I just sucked it up and decided to go here. Now the job was actually finished pretty fast, within a few hours, which was nice, but what rubbed me the wrong way was when I saw his billing statement. He had the oxygen/fuel sensor for $200 and $45 in labor plus tax making it an even $260. I know they sell this part on Amazon for like $70 (Bosch or Denso) and at Pep Boys and Autozone for a little over $100, so basically he charged me double what the cost is at Pep Boys, which is literally a few blocks away.Now maybe he used a sensor that was super high-end that justifies the $200 charge, but if that were the case, he should have explained that the part was a top-tier product and that was the reason for the higher cost, which he didn't. Now, I knew all this before I went to him and some would say that I could have just bought the part and then paid him for labor, which is true, but the tricky part about doing it that way is you never know what other parts are needed such as the special sealant they recommend when putting the plug back in or some minor things and that can be a hassle causing more trouble with your car down the road. In some sense, I can't fault him completely, but I'm not going to give him high marks when I know he's not a very inexpensive mechanic and I'm not sure if he's even fair with the prices for his parts. However, his labor costs seem reasonable. However, i won't be going back to him again. read more

In 2002, I owned a Mitsubishi Eclipse. It was in need of service and because I was hesitant to go to the dealer, I found Master Tech in the Yellow Pages. Nine years, another car (Toyota Prius), and one move (66 miles away!) later, I am still going to Master Tech, because Witt is the best mechanic I have ever met. He is unfailingly honest and fair, and will not sell you any services and/or products you do not need. Witt's staff is friendly and incredibly skilled, plus they go above and beyond to make sure your car is in perfect condition. Everyone here works very quickly, but whenever my car needed work that would take more than a couple hours, Witt or a crew member would drive me home and pick me up when it was ready. I can't think of many places that would do that. Master Tech has a comfortable and well-lit waiting room, but if you are waiting for your car and hungry, there are many places in the immediate area where you can eat. Carl's Jr., Ajisen Ramen, Yogurtland, and Tommy's are literally steps away from the shop. You will also find a number of other places across the street on the north side of Colima. Finding a good mechanic in L.A. is like gold. You not only want to stick with them but you also want others to discover them. I truly cannot recommend Witt and Master Tech highly enough. LOCATION NOTE: Master Tech is located in the center of the white, one-story building just west of Carl's Jr (which faces Colima) on the northwest corner of Colima and Fullerton. You will need to enter the driveway from Colima as if you were going to Carl's Jr. but instead head left past the restaurant to reach the building. So many times I had a quote from the dealership and of course knowing they are just money hungry I didn't believe them with what I need.
