They checked the previous work and found the actual problem. The repair service and the staff were wonderful. More importantly, the owner (Kyle), went above and beyond for the comfort of my mother. She was dealing with the car for me and does not like to drive in the city. On the first day that they had the car Kyle called her and told her he wanted to show her the issue, when she said she would grab an Uber, he insisted on picking her up! After he walked her through the issues with the car, he drove her back! During their time in the car together he asked how she was liking Columbus. She said she had not had much time to explore since she had been dealing with the car. She had really wanted to check out the Conservatory but didn't think she would make it after all. I'm extremely disappointed writing this…read more Over the years, I've been recommended by several people to John's Tires & Brakes because they were always friendly and made customers feel like family. They would offer rides, snacks, and made the experience feel personal. Because of that, there was a lot of trust built. Unfortunately, someone very close to me recently discovered that multiple repairs done here were either poorly completed or failed far sooner than they should have. Spark plugs that were replaced last May (with only about 5,000 miles driven since) were already completely fried, despite typically lasting much longer. Wiring that was replaced just last month also needs to be redone because it's damaged. On top of that, another mechanic showed that the welding work done on the muffler/exhaust was poorly done and may have contributed to further damage, including the catalytic converter needing replacement. I strongly encourage anyone getting major repairs here to seek a second opinion.

They told us that an auxiliary fan was broken, and "repaired it" for nearly $400. Less than an hour after their "repair", our car broke down in traffic and smoke started pouring from the hood without warning. We feared the worst. We called Mike for an estimate, and he came and looked over our Jeep the same day. He took excellent care of us, was honest, and explained his hypothesis of what was wrong with the car. HIs rates were fair and he was just overall wonderful to work with. 2 hours after he arrived to our complex (after having our car towed home), our jeep is up and running better than ever. And for very little compared to what Pep Boys tried to sell us. He even showed us that the "broken" fan, in fact worked, and gave us a year's guarantee on his labor.
