Just ordered take out from Aby's with my husband. We are both extremely impressed and stuffed! The woman who took our ordered was very pleasant, the delivery was quick and the delivery person was very nice. We both ordered the enchiladas with rice and beans and it was delicious. Nice size portions, enough for lunch the next day. This will definitely be our go to take out instead of the usual Chinese or Italian. Overall 10 out of 10. Keep up the good work!!! read more

Very disappointed with this place. The food is very overpriced and lacking any flavor. The vegetable fajitas are basically a bag frozen vegetables fried in a lot of oil served with bland rice and beans. Nothing has any spices or any kind of flavor. 4-5 stars but I am rounding up because Aby's handily beats the local competition. Food is very good, and even the beans and rice are delicious. Lots of combo plates offered on the menu. Veggies in the chimichanga and were very yummy. Around six different sauces to choose from for your dish, and all are explained on the back of the menu. Nice Tex-Mex with a good atmosphere and service. My wife is a connoisseur of Tex-Mex so admittedly our expectations are higher than normal. The obligatory chips with salsa and the enchiladas that we ordered were nice. The service has quick and attentive. read more

I ordered the enchiladas - there were 3 in the order with choice of fillings. I was told I could not get 3 choices but only 2 of 1 and 1 of another. Ordered 2 steak and 1 chicken. The steak were good - better than good , the chicken were ok - i was expecting shredded chicken but got chunks. They were tender but just not expected. Our server was Antonio - very attentive. The dessert was fried ice cream - not fried for us but fried then frozen. Disappointing. Overall a good place but not great read more

This place was an excellent find. My go to place when I'm looking for Mexican food is Jose Tejas, but when I drove past this place I figured I had to give it a try. I went with a few girlfriends for Sunday lunch and we were NOT disappointed. I got the tacos with a side of chips and salsa and they were delicious. My friends both got chicken dishes that they were also very happy with. The portions were filling and all of our meals came with a side of rice and beans. Aby's has great Mexican food; definitely the best in the Matawan area. I have been going to Aby's for years and I am so happy to see it flourishing in its new location by the train station. The service is good and I have always had consistently delicious meals here. This place is BYOB as well. My pick here is the chicken chimichanga with ranchera sauce. Food is usually decent, but we ordered seafood chimichanga and the seafood inside was over cooked and hard. They serve chips and salsa only if you order an entree. We asked for chipotle sauce and for 2 servings of that in a small dish, charged us $3 - that after ordering $20.99 entrée. Seriously, extra $$ for sauce !! Last time we go there. read more

I'm a fan. What can I say. I've been going there for a few years for lunch and they always deliver consistent and tasty food. There are other Mexican places in Matawan, they are also good but I keep going to Aby's because I really like the Burrito Mojato. This week was the first time I have ever gotten anything but that. I tried the Chimichanga and I went with the Crema de Chipotle sauce instead of the medium hear verde sauce I normally get. Glad I tried something new. It was very good. read more

My husband enjoyed the steak burrito and flauta the second time and said it was even better than the first because he got it with salsa verde this time. I read comments about the quesadilla and yes, it is very basic. However, if you try any of the other items you will be impressed. My personal favorite is a steak burrito with chipotle cream sauce! The most bland mexican food i ever had. everything tasted like nothing even when you added salsa or lime or anything to it!! i had the chicken tortilla soup and fish tacos. two of my favorite things to eat but not here! the staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and spacious. they had strange punk rock music playing which didnt fit the place. im really disappointed with my visit because i heard such great things but im never going back. read more

Not the place to be if you are hungry and in the mood for good Mexican. Very disappointed with the experience that I had. Ordered chicken nachos for an appetizer expecting a pile of chips loaded with toppings, when the waiter brought it out it was a small plate of five tortilla chips in total with light toppings.. looked like someone's left overs. Then when I ordered my chicken fajita it came with no topping on the side so we asked for some lettuce tomatoes and cheese and they charged us $3.99 for it on the check!! Also says that all meals come with rice and beans and chips and salsa and we never got the chips and salsa. Expensive for not getting the full portion of your meal. This place was disgusting. I was shocked by so many things. My son ordered the kids nachos and out came a plat with 3 tortilla chips with melted cheese. Really!? Taco Bell does better nachos. Then the tacos and chimichangas my wife and I had were very subpar. I think it is a disgrace to call it Mexican food. And to top it all off, they are way overpriced. If you want fried, assembly line greasy food (think Chi-Chi's, On The Border, Taco Bell), this is not the place for you. If however, you want freshly prepared authentic Mexican cuisine, visit Aby's ASAP. As an aside, every table gets free chips and salsa, so I'm not sure what the previous reviewer is referring to. Some standout dishes that we have regularly are the pollo verde, chile relleno, enchiladas and tortilla soup. Diners get to choose what type of sauce they'd like on their dish- ranging from mild and not spicy at all to very, very hot. My family eats at Aby's at least twice a week- it's that good. We consistently bring friends there for dinner and no one has ever had a bad meal. read more
