My wife and I both ordered fajitas - one veggie one chicken. The veggies were bland tasteless and undercooked. The chicken was paper thin and was also tasteless. Portions were not generous. Guacamole was good and street corn were good but the main course was not acceptable. Don't understand why the reviews were so positive. Ps - my wife just threw up read more

Chimichanga and nachos were both great! Ordered from wave resort and it was a great decision. Solid take out option in the area. It's actually really hard to get good delivery nachos. read more

From the moment I walked in, the restaurant felt lively and welcoming! Bright, colorful decor with upbeat music playing and Grease on the TVs added a fun, nostalgic vibe. We were seated quickly and our orders were taken promptly. To be fair, we arrived early and were the only customers at the time, so I can't fully speak to how service is on a busy night, but during our visit, everything ran smoothly. The food was absolutely delicious and tasted truly authentic. The Birria tacos- amazinggg! Every dish was flavorful and clearly made with care. As a bonus, it's BYOB, which makes it even better for a relaxed night out. I would definitely recommend this spot and will be coming back! read more

AMAZING ! If you're looking for a place to grab dinner in Freehold, this is the place. Parking is in the back, which is convenient given that finding parking in Freehold can be very difficult. Gosh! What can I say? Everything was delicious. The nachos were a must appetizer. And I cant wait for the next time to try something new. Service was great, our server was very attentive and kind. read more

Amazing little gem in downtown Freehold Boro across from Rita's Ice. Very authentic and delicious Mexican food! The menu is so extensive! I can't believe I've missed this place for so long! You must go here if you're in the area, there's several other Mexican places that are all good also in the same town, but this one is a must try! You'll love the ambience. Once you step inside, really cute, colorful decorations, everywhere! The menu was great. You could first of all order almost any side. You can imagine including cheese. The food here though is over-the-top incredible! Any of the street tacos are gonna be incredible! I love the complementary chips and salsa, they bring three other sauces on the side as well. You're gonna be blown away here! The beef tatadas were fantastic! So were the chicken street tacos! I need to go back and try some of their burritos, and all their other food too! You could see all the reviews are five stars here so I wouldn't hesitate get this on your list and make sure you come! Highly recommended if you're in the Freehold area for top-notch, authentic Mexican food! read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time and loved it. Truly authentic Mexican flavors from Morelia region. It's beautifully decorated. You feel like you're in Mexico on vacation! Birria tacos were delicious as was the Bistec encebollado and the Mexican flan. Will definitely be back! read more

I was in Freehold where there is no shortage of Mexican restaurants. I thought I would give this place a try. It is brightly decorated, with two large screen TV's playing Mexican music videos. A lot to choose from on their menu. We were given a small portion of chips with 3 sauces which were all good. We were seated and served promptly. I ordered the fajita Street tacos which were tasty. Hubby ordered El Borracho which was grilled angus beef short ribs. It was presented very nicely and he loved it! read more

I ordered De la casa Romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes, cotija cheese, avocado & creamy dressing Salad should have been 8.00. First there was maybe a cup of shredded iceberg lettuce, 4 gape Tomato's , I counted 6 1" sq pieces of avocado and a sprinkle of cheese. ., 2-3 oz grilled chicken a a teaspoon of onion. The dressing they gave was not avocado dressing but Cesar. It was $16.00 and I was starving. This was so disappointing;not worth getting read more

Just great! Best tacos I ever had! The place is nicely decorated, very colorful. With what I assume is Mexican music playing. We started off with fresh homemade chips and salsa. They charge $10 for that, which usually is complementary in most places. But they very good. And came with three different salsas: hot, med (green) and mild. I liked the mild the best. My wife loved the birria chimichanga and I loved the steak tacos. We finished off with a chimichanga with rice pudding inside. They have a large menu with both traditional Mexican dishes and dished that are more familiar to me. Also some "New Creation" items. I have my eye on a lobster and shrimp item from that menu, for next time. The service was very good, and friendly. The cost was maybe a little high, but not excessive. We are definitely going back! Can't wait, actually! read more

AMAZING food, even better service. The place was also very clean and well kept. Cant wait to return.

El Agave is a fantastic Mexican restaurant worth visiting in downtown Freehold. It has caught my eyes several times driving by and I was so happy to finally have had the opportunity to dine there this weekend! The interior decor is very nice with a colorful Mexican theme and upbeat music. We split the nachos as a starter. It was . The fresh chips and ingredients definitely came through. I had the tacos dorados and my husband had the agave chimichanga. All the food was so delicious and the side of chipotle crema took it to a whole other level. The service was a great and the food was plentiful. I will absolutely be back and will be bringing other friends who love good Mexican food. read more

Great food and service. Would highly recommend for authentic Mexican food in Freehold. Also BYOB.

I've never had a go-to Mexican place... until now. El Agave is everything I've been searching for - it packs the flavor and heat (if you like it) in every bite. We've ordered delivery and dined in and both are divine! From the crispy chips to the delectable sauces/salsas, we have enjoyed everything we've tried here so far. The price point is so reasonable, portions are good - not too big or too small, and service was great. We came with our baby and were worried about timing but the food came out really quick so we were able to enjoy it without rushing! The agave burrito and nachos were our favorite with the enchiladas trailing close behind. We're excited to come back and try some more from their extensive menu! read more

We came to celebrate a belated 50th for my cousin and boy were we not disappointed, Besides the food being absolutely terrific, they went above and beyond for her. You figure a candle in a cake and maybe the bd song, but no, they made it so special for her tears were flowing. Now by now, we all know their food it top notch. My son and DIL are major foodies and they were blown away. My son said the Tres Leche cake was better then Sophie's in NY, and that's saying a lot. Their homemade mole...WOW!!! read more

El Agave Mexican Cuisine - Celebrating a 50th BD - Seafood Near Me - Freehold Township, New Jersey

Hidden gem in Freehold! The Mexican food is authentic and delicious! I highly recommend anything that's topped with Chipotle cream sauce or green sauce. They start you with complimentary chips with salsa and a green dip. The best burrito I ever had in my life is the Burrito Agave! The creamy chipotle sauce it's covered in is to die for! It was nice and cheesy inside too! I also had the Enchiladas Enmoladas and the Burrito Bandera. Both were also delicious! The green sauce that's topped on half of the Burrito Bamdera is amazing as well! The ranchera side was good, but not my personal favorite sauce here. I had the rice pudding chimichanga for dessert. It was good, but not something I'd order again. I want to try the Mexican flan or tres leches next time. The menu is huge here. There are so many more dishes to try. I highly recommend El Agave in Freehold! read more

After reading the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. The restaurant is split into two dining rooms, with the second one being closed off when we went. The room we dined in had walls that were painted yellow, lime green, bright blue, orange, and purple. The walls were adorned with all sorts of cultural items, which ranged from decorative plates to plant pots that resemble Mexican candy skulls. The Mexican flag also hangs over the entrance to the second dining room as well. We ordered the following: We got Esquites (Corn Salad) to share. This is a Mexican street corn salad, topped with mayonnaise, chili powder, lime juice and crumbled cotija cheese. It came with a little container of Tajin. Hubs thought it was a cute promotion but said that the corn salad was ordinary, overall. Daughter and I thought it was pretty good. We like Mexican corn salad. Hubs ordered the Caldo de Res (corn tortilla) which is a spicy Mexican beef and vegetables soup. The bone-in beef ribs were cooked in the broth, giving the soup a rich and meaty flavor. It's served with fresh diced onions, jalapeno, cilantro and lime. He said that he liked it a lot, especially the accompaniments. Daughter and I shared the Paella. It came with seasoned seafood, sausage and shrimp. The rice was saffron scented with crispy toasty rice bits. We liked it a lot and thought it was delicious. I love the saffron rice the most. Hubs ordered horchata because he wanted something different. It tasted ok. I forgot to take a photo of it. The one big con about this place is that there isn't any parking. They're located right by the tracks. We thought that we could park in this lot next door but found out that it's reserved for the other businesses nearby. I think they have parking but it got taped off and we weren't allowed to drive in there. So, we ended up parking nearby at a residential street a few blocks away and walked over. Service was friendly and quick. Even though there was lack of parking, I will definitely return and try other items on the menu! read more

Outstanding tortillas, the chicken burrito was amazing. Definitely recommend! Friendly and attentive server!

El Agave has amazing Mexican food - the best I've had in years. The menu is huge and filled with wonderful-looking options. The chips seemed fresh-made, and were served with fresh, flavorful red and green salsas. (The salsas weren't chunky or particularly spicy, if that's what you're used to, but they were ridiculously flavorful.) Everything that we tried was full of flavor and seemed wonderfully fresh. The servings are large and filling, but not overly so. The entree prices are good and ranged widely, with most plates between $12 and $20. The staff is warm, friendly, and efficient. I don't usually think of "pacing" for meals except when I get to go to a fancy restaurant and expect/hope that pacing will be a flawless part of the experience, but the staff's pacing here was outstanding, from the greeting through when we left. The restaurant is filled with lively, colorful decor, but stays just under the line, to me, of going overboard. There is a lot of seating inside (two dining rooms) and outside (a smallish fenced area). Definitely make the walk just past the main areas of downtown to get to El Agave. It's a block past the train tracks from the main area of downtown; diagonally across the street from Rita's. I can't speak to the other restaurants in the area, but you'd be missing out if you passed this by! read more

I recently Noticed "El Agave's"~ Yelp ratings.. Now I know why! We live in Manalapan 4 Season's and love Mexican Food, it started with Juanita's near the Count Bassie Theater 40 years ago. Freehold has some great Mexican Restraunt's now with El Agave 4 miles away. They have the greatest Location just west of Train tracks on Main St. It's "Charming" my wife commented, she loved their decor. Mexican brightly colored decorated Dinning Room was warm Clean & well lit. They even have, a smaller eating area to grab a quick bite or Order Out.. I plan on visiting this place for Lunch or Super Bowl Take out !! ***** Their staff is friendly & efficient. We arrived about 6 pm & we were starving & had brought a bottle of wine. They opened it promptly & brought Chips & Sauce's, delicious! My Meal was Spectacular, I had asked the waiter what his favorite was after finding my Usual Carnetez. My wife suggested, be daring & I was rewarded. She had a Fish Dish that I got caught stealing her Shrimp. The waitress offered her another table but out of my reach. I have Pictures!!! This place was truly amazing from the food to the decor. As soon as we walked in I knew this place was going to be good. The decor is half traditional Mexican style and half modern led lights on everything style. It is a perfect date night spot. Our waitress greeted us immediately and sat us down and brought chips and 3 different salsas. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the burrito bandera and it was honestly one of the best looking and tasting things I've ever had not only from a Mexican restaurant but any restaurant I've ever been to. This burrito was gigantic and I was barely able to finish it but it was too good to stop and since it had two different sauces how can I only eat half ya know. I will definitely be taking the ride to freehold more often. read more
