Another Mexican spot fairly close to my house that I frequent. They have a nice outdoor seating area for the warmer weather and it is BYOB here which is a plus. Our waiter this time around was very friendly and patient with us. I got my usual when I go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant - tamale and enchiladas. The tamale was steaming when it came out and the mole had a distinct spice flavor to it. The enchiladas were eh in my opinion. The rice was over cooked and the verde sauce didn't seem homemade like the verde they served with the chips. The cheese empanada and chorizo tacos were good. The Molcajete they serve here though is one of the best in the area. We also got a burrito to go when we ordered and it was ready by the time we signed the check. read more

This place is pretty authentic for good Mexican food. It's small but they have a great menu. We had some chicken and beef tacos and they were excellent. The beef is delicous. The guac was delicous. I can't wait to train some different dishes. For dessert we got a tres leches to go and I was blown away by how great it was. It's a must try. Authentic Mexican. Great quality food. Not much atmosphere inside to sit but it's comfortable enough and in the summer you can sit outside.

My husband is Mexican and we drive an hour out of our way because this is the most authentic food we can find around here. We live in Barnegat. The portions are very big. The service is excellent and the menu is extensive. It's very quiet, setting under trees in the shade And outside if you like alfresco dining. If not, you can eat inside, but we like it outside because it's very quiet. We highly recommend it. read more

NOTE: I am not depriving this place of five stars because of the bird poop. I was in the area with my husband for lunch. We decided to stop in Cholula's for a bite to eat. We grabbed a seat at one of the many booths. The interior is bright and colorful and if you're into sports they're playing loudly on the tv. Service wasn't friendly at all and definitely not attentive. My husband ordered the shrimp quesadillas and I had the taco salad with grilled chicken. We also ordered sweet plantains. Everything we had was fine but somewhat bland. Solid Mexican spot if you are starving and looking for somewhere to sit down and eat near the Englishtown Flea Market area. We came here on a steaming hot day, which turned rainy after the flea market...and what a better way to dry off than with some tacos? I ordered the trio with chicken, steak and pork. I really loved the chicken and pork, but sadly the steak felt very bland. They were definitely authentic and came pipping hot with a roasted scallion for great flavor. Hubby ordered the pork platter (roasted pork chops and pork chunks - also the platter is named something nicer), he was super satisfied! He liked the the plate brought delicious fresh made beans, perfectly seasoned pork and even better mole sauce over his quesadilla. My Supervisor told me about this little hole in the wall that I had to try. This place is 40 minutes south of me but I figured, I had nothing else going on so I would give it a try. At first glance, I was skeptical. Not the greatest looking place on the outside and rather smallish inside. I decided to get two burritos: The shrimp /w chipotle cream and the burrito macho /w steak. These were no Taco Bell or Chipotle burritos. They were huge. One burrito was enough to feed 3 people (2 people with a large appetite). The shrimp in my burrito were plentiful and large. I was surprised as I expected small shrimp. It was an excellent choice. Next, I tried the steak macho. This burrito is superb! A definite must try. The steak was cooked perfectly. Still love this place. Haven't been here on awhile. They were quite busy. The service was a little slow but she was also serving outside. We ordered fried plantains, wings which were delicious. I ordered 3 Mexican tacos for 7.50 with spicy pork which were okay. My baby fox ordered this huge burrito bowl with ground beef. It was layered with so much stuff couldn't finish it. They changed the menu. It's actually bigger and more organized. Only complaint is the food takes even longer than normal and service is still spotty. We ended up being there for an hour and a half. They also stopped letting you get a big bottle of soda. So now you have to get individual bottles. Which can get expensive. Since their $2 a bottle. Food is still delicious. read more

If it was an option for zero stars that is what I would give it. I took my family their to celebrate my sons birthday. I do not speak fluent Spanish so I had some difficulty in conversation. My son almost swallowed a large piece of hard plastic that was in his food. He managed to cough it up and then we showed it to the server and they acted like nothing was wrong, they took his food and several minutes later we had to ask if they were replacing the dinner, then and only then did they even start cooking another one. He was the last to eat and finish and they charged me for his dinner and did not even offer half off. Why I have no idea, they just looked at me like they did not care at all. Very frustrating and I had a friend who got sick after eating there so this was it, I am never going back to eat or order out from there again. read more

Reading the other reviews, I would think that this place was excellent. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day? I got takeout for my wife and kids. It looked like authentic mexican food, for sure, and I have lived in Mexico. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Ok, fine - only 3 tortillas provided when 15 were needed. I made my own. However all of the food, and we ordered many things off of the menu, tasted exactly the same. Bad? No. There was simply no flavor whatsoever. None. Maybe there was salt in there. I couldn't tell. It's first come first served, which we didn't realize until the people behind us ran in and took the open table. No waiting to be seated, no one to welcome you. They're certainly understaffed as they had just one waitress for the entire restaurant. We got the next available table and ordered: - Shrimp Fajitas - Steak Tacos - Sweet Plantains The food arrived at a reasonable time, however we were not given any plates. Fajitas were very bland and tasted boiled or maybe baked, instead of grilled. There was cheese melted on top of the shrimp which oddly didn't add any flavor. Steak was chewy though had decent flavor. I was in Englishtown doing my MSF course for 2 days, when the first day was over I really wanted Mexican food that I can enjoy, I found this spot. GLAD I went over and check them, they had outdoor sitting and great selection of food! All I can say it is very delicious! Very friendly staff that were wearing masks and gloves the whole time. I really am upset that I have to write a bad review for this place. I wanted to like it but the service is nonexistent. I came in with my husband and 2 friends and we sat down when the waitress told us it was self seating. We had to flag down a waiter 10 minutes after sitting down and I had to go up to the register to get menus after not receiving any. Two tables came in after us and did not have this experience at all where they were served their food right away. We waited over an hour for our food and it didn't even come. We ended up going to the register where the woman cashier was beyond rude to us. We said we wanted to pay for the drinks and that's it. They even made us pay for 4 cups of tap water. No one apologized to us for our experience and it really didn't seem like they cared. Definitely unfortunate given that we weren't even able to try the food, but the lack of service and waiting time is enough for me to never return. Unfortunately it seems if you're not hispanic, they won't give you any time of their day since all the other tables with latino customers were given much better service and the food arrived before ours did. read more

Came here for lunch with my wife and friends. The experience started off by waiting 10+ mins for our waiter and when no one showed up we had to flag him down. Then after that they gave us stale tortilla chips. The worst part was waiting over an hour for our food. The whole row behind us sat down after us and still got their food before us. Once we decided to pay for our drinks and leave the waiter said the food is ready. We said we will take it to go. Once it came out we discovered that much of the order was missing or wrong all together. At this point we just wanted to leave. The cashier was extremely rude, charged us for 4 cups of tap water and did not apologize at all for the poor service. It was a huge waste of time, a big let down and I won't be coming back here again read more
