Went here on a recommendation of a lot of people in matawan, we always hear good things about here. We went the day after christmas for lunch and there was only 1 table occupied when we walked in. The food was good, at least what I had was. But the service was HORRIBLE. Carlos our waiter was rude and his attitude seemed like he was annoyed to be having to serve us. He didnt even introduce himself I had to check the receipt for his name. I dont require an overly enthusiastic server but being treated like a burden wasn't acceptable especially when we were didn't ask for anything other than our entrees and drinks. Aby's is a bit of a drive for us but we make it when we're in the mood for some delicious Mexican food, well-served in a nice atmosphere. This is a very well run restaurant with a big wait staff and excellent service - which seems a rare commodity these days. The decor is cute and better than most similar establishments. The food is the usual but always with some specials and in our experience all fresh-cooked and very good quality. You can tell a lot by the mole sauce and Aby's is really top-notch - perhaps my favorite in the area. It is rich, fragrant and redolent with spices and chiles. You basically mop it up with whatever is available and lick your utensils and fingers when done. Their mole chicken is large pounded breast pieces covering a large plate with a huge ladle of sauce over the top - completely simple and completely delicious. We've not been disappointed with Aby's yet and look forward to our next visit. Definitely recommended. read more

Friendly & courteous staff who are always willing to accommodate all guests. Food is prepared to specifications and they accommodate vegetarian (can't really say Vegan) they do prepare meat and cheese dishes. Guacamole is the best I have had in a long time other than my own. -1 They do not have traditional Mexican drinks like horchata or hibiscus. -1 They charge extra for dressing :( read more

We love abys! My husband and I have been customers since they were in their older location downtown. The new location is clean, colorful, and spacious. The staff is friendly and always make us feel welcome. We even had our wedding rehearsal dinner at abys. We were more than pleased with the accommodations that were made for us and the prices are always fair! Great quality food and service for an affordable price. Highly, highly recommended!! Also, my husbands favorite dish is the pollo Casablanca. I tend to order a chalupa or burrito off the specials menu. I have yet to be disappointed. Thank you, abys! read more

This place is really expensive for what it is. I had the Aby's taco and just wasn't really impressed.but the chicken in my dish was a little chunkier and required more chewing. I decided to have an early dinner on Sunday afternoon so after ordering chicken fajitas without peppers the waiter brought out chips & salsa which turned out to be the highlight. The fajitas arrived with peppers which I picked out and a side of rice & refried beans both of which were tepid. To make things worse the waiter brought the food and disappeared but he half heartedly apologized for the peppers when taking the dishes away. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon read more

Major improvement since they moved into their new location! Cleaner, nicer, and overall better atmosphere! Fast service and positive attitudes! They give suggestions on how to order to save money. Food tastes fresh, their enchiladas are possibly the best I've ever had! I recommend having it with the Chipotle cream sauce. You can easily make a meal out of a bunch of appetizers. Only negative is if you get there or leave during rush hour because the train station located near there will trap you in the parking lot. However don't let that stop you from enjoying the experience! read more

Just had Aby's for dinner! Super convenient by the train station. I had a quesadilla and my husband had the Aby Tacos and burrito mojado. Amazing we loved it. The sides of rice and beans were delicious. The salsa and guacamole were a perfect touch as well. The staff was so sweet and put up with my many questions on explaining the dishes and sides too me. I've recently started visiting this restaurant because it's the best Mexican food I found in my area. The food is fresh and tasty. The service is extremely attentive, warm and friendly. Some excellent appetizers include the Tortilla soup, the Chorizo, and the Ceviche. I thoroughly enjoy the Enchilidas Suizas and the Mole Poblano at this place. I'm a little disappointed the Fajitas didn't come with a side plate of extras like guacomole, tomatoes, sour cream, etc. This may be keeping me from giving this place 5 stars. read more

I had a hankering for Mexican food so I decided to try Aby's. I called to place my order and the young man who answered was pleasant and answered all of my questions. I decided to go with a chicken quesadilla, which came with rice, your choice of black or refried beans (I went for black) and a small sample of chips and salsa. Everything was well seasoned except for the chips (bland with no taste) and the salsa, for me, was too spicy. I expected more of the quesadilla but it was just chicken and cheese folded in a tortilla. Nothing fancy. The beans to rice ratio was overwhelming - either give me more rice or less beans. I probably would not eat here again as there was nothing spectacular or memorable about the meal. I've had better -dare I even say it - at Qdoba. read more

Very good, authentic Mexican food. Ordered the guacamole..it was fresh and delicious. Chips and salsa were perfect...very flavorful with the right about of heat. Steak fajitas were sizzling, on a bed of peppers and onions with a side of rice and beans that were all cooked to perfection. A town with a proud Mexican heritage is done proud by probably the most quality Mexican food I've had. The only thing keeping me from extending it to the full 5 stars would be the pricing. BYOB definitely helps to cut the cost however. That said I consider it worth it for the quality. Great waiters too! This place is a hidden gem. I tried it for the first time last night after living 5 minutes away. I take the train everyday to Manhattan and always see it and never tried it. We went with a group and it was so much fun. Next time I plan to bring a bottle of wine (or two) because it's BYOB. I LOVE that. A tad pricey, however super delicious. The last two times we were there we had the same waitress and she is extremely friendly and personable. She checked in on us and even had a conversation about traveling (my passion)! I also got the same thing, the Aby Taco, which is plenty to even have leftovers for the next day! Give it a try. We came here Saturday for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Nice atmosphere, we were immediately greeted and seated. Plenty of choices on the menu, I had beef chimichanga. This was their 3RD CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The last 2 times (previous to this time) they have messed up my order. I am a vegetarian and they seem to make my veggie burrito different every time. The last two times they put meat in it and were giving me AN ATTITUDE FOR WANTING TO GET THE PROPER ORDER. Also there was someone who took my order on the phone and they couldn't understand so they just said they don't have it. Then I said it in Spanish and they got an attitude with me again. Tonight I ordered again in hopes that this time it would go alright. My veggie burrito didn't even have veggies in it!!!!!!!!!!! it was just beans, WET LETTUCE and tomatoes!!!!!!!! I promise I am not making this stuff up. The sauce was extra spicy than it normally was. I think they were pissed I ordered one meal to be delivered but I apologized and told them I would pay the difference but they still sent me a crap burrito with beans tomato's and WET LETTUCE!!!! Found the restaurant online today, and figured we'd try it for dinner. We had: - Chips and Salsa (tasted like commercial chips. Salsa had good flavor, but was *very* thin/watery. We were surprised it had to be ordered for $2.99. However, when the check came, we weren't charged for it) - Tortilla Soup (too salty, and with broccoli in it, which we didn't expect) - Burrito with beef and Ranchero sauce (beef was good, ranchero sauce was salty) - Mole Poblano (this was good, by far my favorite food of what we ordered) Service was good, the waitress, who spoke broken English was very friendly. Not cheap but very good Mexican food. My mom moved to Laurence Harbor a few years ago and this is one of our favourite places down there. The food seems to be getting better and better. Loved the shrimp fajitas. The chicken burritos with the chipotle crema is fantastic. Not a cheap place but worth the money. Go for lunch or dinner. Just ordered take out from Aby's with my husband. We are both extremely impressed and stuffed! The woman who took our ordered was very pleasant, the delivery was quick and the delivery person was very nice. We both ordered the enchiladas with rice and beans and it was delicious.
