After the viewing and before going over to our friend's parents' house, we decided to grab something to eat. After looking up various options, we decided on Abuelo's since we kinda were feeling the idea of tacos and it wasn't too far from where we were. We were seated immediately in one of the booths. Or waitress came over immediately to introduce herself and greet us. She was very attentive, friendly and had a few funny moments during our dining experience. We each got a drink - I ordered the sangria, which I enjoyed. For food, I ended up getting the quesadilla with chicken and beef empanadas for us to share. The portion sizes were very good seeing as what I ordered were appetizers but felt like a entree size portion. Updated; it's been a while. -1 star - the men's room was filthy. I always worry that if the men's is dirty then what's in the kitchen. Food was a solid 4 stars, service was a five. Handicap/wheelchair access was perfect, plenty of room. Cost is reasonable for the level but not cheapest. It was way too much food for me to eat. We had eight people and everyone left pleased and full. Overall a pleasant dinner. read more

Food, margarita, and service at the bar were all good. For some reason, though, I looked up at the ceiling while waiting for my food, and I wish I hadn't. All the many vents and ceiling are covered in black mold. Then I smelled the mold and realized I was sitting over a cut out area of the bar covered by a trash bag. The manager said they had had a leak. When I told him I was surprised they were even open to the public, he just said they needed to clean all the vents. I think the mold problem requires more than a cleaning of the vents. read more

This was a nice place to eat. Went here with a party of 6 on a Monday evening and waited about 20 minutes. We were seated a spacious table near the back where three baskets and chips and three trays of three different salsas were waiting for us. The tortilla ships were light and seasoned. The salsas were all good but the salsa verde and brown salsa were my favorites. Our food came out quickly. I had the fajita tacos with steak which was pretty good. Came through to pass some time before our JC Penny photoshoot and saw some appealing drinks and food items at Abuelo's from other Yelpers! We sat ourselves at the bar and the bartender was attentive, friendly, and quick. The drinks they offered were aplenty but went with the tried and true mojito. We were impressed by the glass shakers, so much we bought one online after the bartender shared where they got them! The interior is cozy and they have a variety of seating. Just had a first date here. The Food was delicious and the staff were even more amazing. My date and I were yapping non stop even up until 5 minutes till close and not a single one staff member rushed us, they were very pleasant. Frequently checked on the quality of the food and gave us time to get to know each other. The ambiance was excellent and the bar wasn't crowded. I had a great experience at Abuelo's tonight and would definitely be recommending it to others, truly one of the best restaurants in SC for a date. The people were very sweet, but the food not very good. The cheese dip tasted like velveta. Most unauthentic Mexican food I've ever had.

We ordered chicken nachos and the bacon wrapped shrimp. My husband really liked the nachos. All the ingredients were very fresh. I was a little taken aback by the bacon wrapped shrimp as there were only three shrimp that came with the order. The free salsa was pretty neat because it came with three different variations of salsa and heat. Very beautiful restaurant. It reminds me of a hotel in Vegas. From the very beginning, this was a great dining experience! Service was exemplary, Bianca took extremely good care of us. The chips and salsa were good but our meals were soooo good. We came here on a recommendation from a friend and were open to see how everything would go. We arrived in time for the lunch menu and I had the chili rellano and spinach enchilada while my wife had the tortilla soup. Presentation was great but the flavors were better! We shared each other's food and enjoyed every bite. I would absolutely order the same meal again but next time I will probably have one of the steak or fish plates on the recommendation of our server. I tried this place last summer for the first time, after several of my family members begged to go back (they went without me the first time the year before ). I tried the sea bass and it was probably one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It was seriously that good! Great location, interesting cocktail choices, good food. We were at the mall and had dinner here. Lots of group of 6-8 people were seated as well as larger families when we walked in, but we had no trouble getting a table quickly for two of us. Menu selection had some Mexican standbys (fajitas, quesadillas, burritos) but also a section of gluten-sensitive options and lighter fare. Our server was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Blackberry mojito was the best thing I had, honestly. The cocktail came in a shaker and was poured tableside into a Collins glass of ice, with enough to refill it. It was slightly sweet, extremely refreshing and flavorful. Tortilla chips and salsa were brought to us right after we were seated and the salsa was chunky with a bit of a chipotle kick. We opted for a trio of dips that came with chicharrones, a dip sampler that was pretty good. The guacamole soup cup in it was half full of lettuce, but they were very generous with the chili con queso and the queso diablo dip. It was very hard to save any room for entrees! Fajitas chimichanga with steak - nice crunch on the tortilla, super cheesy, just not much meat. If you're looking for a steak option, I'd go with fajitas or a more meaty dish. Enchilada platter - cheese/chicken/avacado was pretty meh. There was not a lot of flavor to it, and the avacado mash was really a guacamole spread in a corn tortilla. We would definitely order different entrees on a return trip, and likely sit at the bar closer to the cocktail shaking. Ladies restroom was heavily used, but for the late dinner hour we were there, no complaints. It was sanitary, just not very clean and needed a good mop and wipe down. I had the shredded beef chili relleno, chicken enchilada, papas con chili, and rice. The beef in the chili relleno was tender, the breading on the relleno was very crispy and extremely delicious! The chicken enchilada was very flavorful as well. The papas con chili is their spin on mashed potatoes and were nicely done. So you know how Mexican restaurants well any restaurant is a hit or a miss? WELL, Run don't walk because this Mexican joint is the BOMB. Our server oMG he was amazing. We ordered a drink that kina didn't have much tequila in it and he took it right away to make it right. And it came back, so strong and yummy. The food, we got chicken and shrimp fajitas and enchiladas with beans with their three sauces and oh yeah, it his the spot.
