This is my new favorite restaurant. I don't mean favorite like favorite in Orleans or on the Cape. I mean favorite in Massachusetts. The food-- all of it, and there were seven of us, which is a big party for this small, cozy place-- was excellent. Small plates and bowls, something that made everyone happy from the college vegan-kid to the 79 yo touring (Europe/US) musician. Drinks were also perfect- best caipirinha since Panama. Wow such a great find. Funky, friendly and the food was amazing. We sat outside under the covered deck but inside looked to be just as fun. Amazing food and ambiance! The tzatziki and ceviche were scrumptious, with warm pita and tortilla chips. The beef souvlaki was a tad dry, the scallion pancake with curried sweet potato and raisins was DELICIOUS, and the salmon poke was so fresh. The khao soi was spicy but not too much, the bun cha was so delightfully light, the 5 spice tofu was cooked beautifully, the mu ping was "fantastic" with well-seasoned rice. The only lacks were the speed of service (felt like we were rushed a bit), the slightly small portions (maybe include the amount of food for each dish?), and the shoyu ramen was not as good as the other noodle dishes (still not bad). Ok, I've been dining out in Orleans for many, many years. I've always been a big fan of local favs like the Land Ho, Yardarm, more recently Rock Harbor Grill and La Bella Vita. Other towns had some good choices as well from Eastham to Brewster, Harwich and Chatham, but I want to talk about Abroad. Holy Smokes was it good! The food is for sure a reflection of the name. Asian, Indian, Caribbean, Polynesian flavors just to name a few. The good: love the Tapas/small plate approach! Everyone gets a taste! The vibe is eclectic and reflects the name as well as the food.... A funky little joint that is well decorated and helps make it feel more spacious inside than it really is. Service was awesome and our server super helpful. We enjoyed the visit by the chef who was checking in on our experience. The food was amazing and the three of us in our party all shared 4 plates and no one left hungry. The Bad: not a thing!! Maybe it would be busy during the summer, but not a single thing last evening! Off the hook, excellent! It's atypical for Cape Cod as far as I can tell. The food is not giant and there are not french fries and cheese with everything. It's delicious, interesting food via smaller tapas-like plates. I've been 3 times this summer and everyone I brought there enjoyed every dish they had. If you're looking for same old, same old, this is not the place for you. If you want a great interesting restaurant with neat ambiance, I highly recommend it. I've been here about five times since they opened this summer and each time is amazing. The ambiance is super cozy and romantic, but also great for groups and not too loud. The owners and staff are super friendly and make you feel really at home. The decor is eclectic and collected from the owners' travels. The back patio is lovely, covered and breezy (bring an extra layer for cool nights) and the bar is great for just hanging out. Everything in the place feels very intentionally crafted, even the bathrooms are lovely. Now for the food! I've tried almost everything on the menu at this point -- it's always hard to choose between my old favorites and the specials. It's tapas but I've never left feeling hungry or like I broke the bank. I usually go with a couple friends and we get 2-3 dishes per person and share. Dishes range from $8-$15 each. The waitress helped us navigate around some allergies and preferences and the chef made some accommodations for the cilantro-averse. There are plenty of great veg and vegan options too. My favorites so far (but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu): Stuffed scallion pancake: Similar to an empanada but delightfully crisp and chewy dough. Fillings change daily but my favorite so far was a green curry potato pea filling. The curry flavor was so fresh and interesting. Scallop mango ceviche: Doesn't need much more explanation! The scallops were super fresh and flavors melded beautifully. A+ Som tum: If you've never had green papaya salad you need to give this a try. Fresh and perfect combination of savory-tangy-zippy. Nam sod: The chef told me he picked this one up traveling around northern Thailand and it's his favorite thing on the menu. I can totally see why! I don't know what's responsible for this flavor combo but like the som tum, it got something for every tastebud in your mouth. Pork tacos: These are just about as close as you can get to a perfect taco. Savory juicy pork, crunchy tangy slaw, hand made tortilla. Eat them right away when they land on the table. Jamaican jerk chicken: All the skewers on the menu are great but this one is the most succulent. The jerk seasoning is on the milder side which is good for folks who are new to jerk but it was also satisfying for us folks who like the heat. Ramen: It's really hard to find good ramen in most parts of this country but Abroad's is excellent. The broth has great depth of flavor with kombu and pork belly and the soft boiled eggs give it extra umami. And don't forget the drinks! The drink list ranges from some well-balanced tropical classics -- like the pisco sour, daiquiri, Singapore sling -- to some interesting new creations like the Caribbean mule martini (ginger+pineapple+lime = yum!). They don't stiff you on the booze either, which all of us appreciated. Overall this has been a tough year for restaurants and opening a new place during a pandemic has got to be very difficult. But folks at Abroad have always been super warm, organized, and professional, like they've been open for years. Based on the many full tables we saw here even after Labor Day, I'm sure they will make it through with flying colors. A much needed addition to the Cape! read more

As a group of four, we spent well over $200 after sharing 5 apps and each ordering a noodle bowl as an entree and left unsatisfied. These prices are similar to high end restaurants in Boston, though the food doesn't quite compare. Would recommend if you're looking for a cocktail and a small appetizer. I want to give this a higher rating, but just can't. The service and atmosphere were fine, and the tzatziki and papaya salad were terrific. But then it went downhill from there. I had the chicken tikka masala which had pools or oil in it, and the cream was curdled [still edible, not a health threat, so I ate it]. The arroz con pollo arrived with no chicken at all-- so had to give it to the waitress to get chicken put in it, and my friend who ordered it said it tasted like not at all made from scratch but just a processed spice packet put on it. Other friend had a thai noodle dish that she said had no flavor. The prices were way too high for these. Also we reserved outdoor seating (trying to be COVID-conscious) and 'outdoor' was a back room that was not at all outdoors. We really wanted to like this place as the concept is great and the decor and all of the staff were really nice. They comp'd us the arroz con pollo dish as my friend didn't eat any of it, and that was very kind of them. But we would never come back. read more
