We had an amazing dinner here! Such wonderful ambience, you feel like you're in another country! Beautiful. For starters, we ordered the chips and salsa Verde and the scallion pancake. Scallion pancake was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. For entrées we order the eggplant vindaloo and the char sui pork fried rice. Fried rice was really tasty with crispy bits of pork, perfectly done. The vindaloo was spicy and flavorful and not just hot. I loved my tangy, pomegranate, margarita which had great flavor. Great atmosphere, but the food was only "okay," and even though these are small plates, the portion size on some of the dishes was beyond small. --Stuffed Scallion Pancake, miniscule pork stuffing and wasn't expecting deep-fried. --Jerk chicken skewers lacked spice, mostly tasted cloves. --Bean and Cheese tacos, soupy filling. --Char Siu Pork Fried Rice, our waitress called this the house special fried rice and this was the best we sampled. Flavorful and ample portion. Service was lacking. Waitress said dishes come out quickly so she left menus on the table for future rounds of ordering. Meh, the food was ok, but disappointed to receive 3 of the smallest falafel I'd ever seen with a tiny side salad, pita and some rice. The eggplant vindaloo dish was even more disappointing with only some spice, no sauce on the eggplant, more rice and another of those pitas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Abroad is a cozy restaurant which gave the impression of having dinner at a friends house.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We loved the experience of ordering and sharing small tapas plates and trying numerous items off the menu. We tried the jerk chicken which was moist and tender and bursting with flavors without being too spicy. The stuffed scallion pancake with potato, cheddar and bacon was equally delicious with a nice sweet chili sauce accompanying it. We also tried the creamy and satisfying tzatziki with freshly grilled flatbread, homemade pickles and pit-less olives that balanced everything perfectly. The pork tacos with the delicious slaw and dusted with cojita cheese were delicious. The nicely grilled corn tortillas with savory pork was right on point. The only dishes we were a bit hesitant on was the house fried rice with pork and the Kalua pork. The fried rice in my opinion had way too much sesame oil on it which overpowered the flavors of all the other ingredients but also gave the dish a slightly greasy flavor. The pork served on white rice was a bit dry and the rice was slightly undercooked. Overall we definitely enjoyed our dinner and will be back to try more of the international menu. read more

8/25/23 we arrived shortly after Abroad opened for the day and opted to eat at the covered outdoor patio. It's fun to look around the room with all the eclectic items to see. Katie was our server. We ordered drinks and food at the same time and requested all food to be brought together. For our libation, we both went with Abroad rum punch, which we enjoyed sipping while waiting for our food. The wait was short as our food came out within 10 minutes. My husband opted for the gazpacho. He gave me a sip, and we both agreed it was like a bowl of summer. Delicious! I had a small order of the eggplant vindaloo, which was also very tasty. We shared an order of the stuffed scallion pancake, and the jerk chicken skewers, which we also enjoyed. The plates were cleared when we were finished, and the check was brought out in a timely manner. We were on our way about 40 minutes after arriving, which surprised me as we took our time eating and enjoying our punch. Headed to Nickerson State Park afterwards to work off some of the calories. Super cute space and you can ship while you wait for food but you won't be waiting long. My partner does not do cilantro, and appreciated that the taco part of the menu called out it's usage, but then it was in other dishes without being mentioned. He got one of the noodle soups, which was meant to be a substantial meal, per the server, but was what we would have called appetizer size. He then got the broccoli rabe which was just steamed with cheese. I had the eggplant which came with undercooked rice. I told the server and got new rice, but the eggplant was served on the rice, so I still had hard pieces of rice stuck in. The eggplant was really good though. We went to Abroad tonight for the first time. Everything was delicious! We started with the tzatziki. For our tapas meal we had the Siu Mai meatball skewers, one of each tacos Cochinita Pibil and Taco Bean And Cheddar, Patatas Bravas and the pork fried rice. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse with black salt. The fried rice was my favorite, or was it, I really loved everything! Can't wait to go back try some more of their menu!! The prices are uncomfortable, borderline delusional for the food that you get. I am not afraid to spend top dollar for excellent food, I come from NYC after all.... but you will come out of this restaurant feeling that you've been scammed. Case in point, they charged 12$, for 4 thinly pieces of avocado over rice and sauce. That dish really needs to go back to the drawing board. Plating was terrible, taste was not bad, but this is taking the avocado toast meme to another level. The Good: The décor and ambience is beautiful. The staff is friendly and the overall concept is very unique. Some of the dishes are executed fairly well, but nothing spectacular if you had the original dish before. Jack of all trades, Master of None: This restaurant aims to "take you around the world" in terms of cuisine. I've had the majority of the food that they offer from restaurants that actually specialize in that cuisine. And as expected... none of these dishes come even close to being either high quality or authentic. This is inevitable because it's impossible to have mastery over a wide variety of cuisine. But again if you charge these ridiculous prices, then you have got to deliver. And sadly none of them really do. I'm extremely disappointed overall. Truth be told, there is a lot of good ideas here. Sadly it didn't click with us. Asked if the Riesling was sweet or dry the bartender didn't have a clue. Plus very off putting sitting at the bar because the bartender smelled like an ashtray. It is a shame that this place replaced Abba. I found the decor to be unpleasant and distracting- seems like owners shopped at the christmas tree closing sale. I also have to note a fly problem- we had many large flies buzzing overhead near the bar area as we tried to eat. Tofu skewers were so covered in spices- had the texture of coffee grounds. As for the dan dan noodles- nearly inedible. Disgustingly greasy with only white stem pieces of bok choy. No spice, flavorless. Jerk chicken skewers were the most edible thing on the menu. Last night we had the incredible pleasure of being able to dine at Abroad in Orleans. The food served tapas style was exceptional; the service was out of this world and the decor was unique. We traveled the globe in the hour and a half that we were there. We enjoyed Thai, Middle Eastern and Mexican cuisine. The Kafta beef kibbi was as authentic as my late dads' relatives used to make during our family gatherings. The Kaho Soi was about authentic as you could get for a red coconut curry rivaling that from many of the other top Thai restaurants I have frequented in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Bun Cha was loaded with rich flavors matching the authentic home cooking I have experienced from my Vietnamese friends home cooking. This restaurant is a true gem in Orleans in a town that is noted for great beaches but restaurants lacking in diversity. As a frequent visitor to Orleans where my mother resides it is great to have a new and different establishment to visit. Despite the food being out of this world the truly neat thing that made our experience even more special was that the co-owner Molly was very engaged with her customers as she spent about 15 minutes chatting with our table We truly wish her the best of luck and the establishment continues to prosper. I wanted to give this place more than three stars but there where a few things that were annoying here . Mixed drinks are creative and very delicious , but hardly any alcohol in them . For $13 should have just ordered the mock tail . We really wanted to try the Kafta but it was not ready and the waitress was afraid to ask the chef when it would be ready . Also as many have mentioned portions are very small even the items marked "dinner". $27 for 3 shrimp and some rice noodles was a lot. At the end of the dinner we asked if kafta was ready as we wanted to take home to eat but again we're told she was too afraid to as Chef which is too bad because we did like all the food we ordered .
