I originally reached out to Able Roofing to primarily quote me for a fix on my slate roof that I'd been quoted about $4k by other roofers for. Turns out, those roofers were calling a substance rust that wasn't rust and I didn't need a fix at all! Jay Jr literally saved me $4k on the spot (with photo evidence and all) by pointing that out. I learned so much about our gutters and roofs from that first meeting, he was a wealth of knowledge. Right there, I knew he was our guy. I didn't need Jay to fix the slate anymore but since I was so impressed I happily hired him to do some gutter fixes we needed done and painting a small portion of flat rubber roof white. He did a fantastic job with both. Jay was also the person in charge of our project and doing the work himself. He texted to give me a heads-up before he arrived each day and gave me a recap after each day to share progress and findings (with photos). Over several days of work he found a bunch of previously undiscovered but significant problems that he fixed without charging me more. Jay's integrity is unmatched - he knows that by working on your roof/gutters that his name is forever on that roof/gutter and he takes that very seriously. We hired Able roofing 3 years ago to do our roof after problems with ice damns. We reviewed the roof, especially the problem areas. We had set a date when I would be home to have the roof done. The day before, I come back from work and they had already done the roof, so I had no idea if the problem areas were dealt with properly. Strike one. Fast forward 2 years to 2015, the worst winter in Boston. We developed ice damns and even worse water damage in the same areas we had before. We called Jay who gave us a quote and an estimate time to come look at the roof and remove the snow. He never showed up and he never called. Strike two. After the estimated time had come and gone, we called Jay back. He apologized and took 50% off the quote and gave us a new estimated time to finish the work. He never showed up, and never called. Strike three. Out of curiosity we called Jay again. This time he said he felt so bad and that he would clear the roof for free. Unsurprisingly he never showed up and never called. There are simply not enough positvie adjectives to describe how FANTASTIC Able Roofing and its Owner Jay & his PHENOMINAL Project Manager Joe Timilty are!! During the first of four bomb cyclone storms this month a 3000lb. tree fell on our car and side of house and thru our DR roof...and this was a day before our home inspection by buyers!! Rain was pouring into our DR and we were simply distraught and distressed to say the least! Jay had Joe come right out to our house and from there Joe had his AMAZING CREW of Tommy, Andy and his son working every day around the WORST MARCH WEATHER to complete the repairs on time. In short order they re-roofed, replaced the oversized bulkhead, installed a new side deck railing and lighting, replaced torn screen, remortared where needed, replaced basement window and dryer vent...and will soon replace damaged cedar fencing, downspouts, and paint. Found a leaking roof vent leaking into our bathroom ceiling and started calling various roofing companies. Able Roofing was the first one to have someone pick up the phone after calling 5 prior ones. They were able to come out in the late afternoon to inspect and fix 6 of our roof vents. Friendly and did the job quickly. They weren't able to give us a time frame in which they could come out to our home due to the number of homes requiring service calls (hence 4 stars) requiring me to be house-bound for the day waiting for them to arrive. Able Roofing replaced our existing flat rubber roof over the family room in Dec. 2012. In March 2014, we reached out to Jay Bullens about a problem with the new roof because water stains are appearing in the family room ceiling. He said he would have his brother Michael come out and take a look. This dragged on for several months and they always have excuses as to why they cannot come to our home. It was frustrating so we gave up. However, the situation has now gotten worse. I had no choice and called Jay again a few weeks ago. This time he told me to call his Father Don. I called and spoke to his Father. Once again, I was told he would come and take a look. Of course that has not happened. Think twice before doing business with this company as they will not honor their 10 year labor warranty that is written on their contract. Their business practice is to take new jobs and will not address any problems their existing customers face as a result of their workmanship. read more

Able Roofing (Jay) kept promising that they were sending a crew to my home to do ice dam removal EVERY DAY for 4 days and no one showed up. They said we were on the list and they'd be there by afternoon. I know that everyone is swamped with the snow we've had and leaking but BE HONEST. if you can't come, call me and let me know or don't promise everyday that you are coming. We had to try to find someone else as the leaking is in our electrical. Which is now not easy when we were told for days that someone was coming to help. Not cool. read more

We have had occasion to call Able Roofing twice in the last year or so and, quite frankly, they have not so much re-defined what great service is about but re-introduced service the way it used to be. We called the main number and the owners son came out and greeted us like old friends (he had been once before) and he could not have been more pleasant. My experience with Able Roofing may serve to warn you about this company and your choice to do business with it. I received a competitive quote for work and signed the proposal with a down payment the third week in April. The work should have been completed in 3 weeks but took 2 1/2 months. I dealt with a sales rep who continually gave all sorts of reasons for the delay, excuses, made promises, none of which were kept. He had no credibility in the end. The work was finally done, not by Able, but another company they work with, that was not disclosed until they showed up at the house. Some other work we had scheduled had to be postponed due to the delays. The owner, Jay Bullens, was contacted by phone and email and was completely unresponsive. I never spoke to him despite my effort to reach him to tell him about the shoddy business practice and complete lack of consumer response. I suggest anyone who intends to use this company thoroughly investigate and make an informed choice before engaging their services. The price may be good but not worth the aggravation. It is the worst experience I have ever had with any contractor. read more
