If you're craving punugulu and mirapakay bhaji, Abhiruchi in Sunnyvale is an absolute must-visit. I've been five times so far, and it has never been a miss--always a hit! Honestly, it's the best I've had in the U.S. The punugulu are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, while the mirapakay bhaji packs just the right amount of spice. It's a to-go place with no seating, but there's plenty of parking, so you can enjoy your meal in your car. I do wish they had seating options, but the food more than makes up for it. I've also heard great things about their thali, so that's definitely on my list to try next time. Highly recommend it!

We ordered catered food from here for our daughter's birthday party for 30 guests and the food was phenomenal. We got mirchi bajji, gutti vankaya curry, Mango pappu, tindora fry, sambar, vegetable dum biryani, gulab jamun, double ka meetha and rotis. The gutti vankaya, tindora fry, sambar, biryani were so tasty, absolutely delicious. The mirchi bajji was spicy and accompanied with onions and lime juice! We felt the Mango dal was a little more oily than we would like, but tasty nonetheless. We ordered mild spice for everything as it was a kids birthday party and everything was mildly spicy and delicious. All the guests raved about the food and took leftovers home too. The food was freshly prepared and the quantity was generous too. We coordinated with Anitha garu for this order and she was so helpful in suggesting different items for the party and personally ensured that the food arrived on time! Overall, the taste, service and value for money were amazing! Highly recommend!

Outstanding. Undiscovered. Togo only. They pivoted from a dine in to completely togo business. Incredible. Have to go back and try the rest of the menu; consistent with other reviews. The authentic taste seems to be preserved without compromise for profit. Not aware of any restaurant which has this much pride in their food. Can see why there are so many accolades for the quality of their food in the other reviews. All about portion size and preserving authentic taste. Not optimized for profit. No mandatory 20% tip as a cashier hovers over you when paying like Starbucks. The dine in photos are obsolete. There is no dine in area now. Only togo. Other review comments on portion size and quality is better than any other South Indian restaurant seem accurate. Not a destination for Instagram diners. Female owned and not geared to generating returns for investors. Extension of home cooking. Vegetables fresh, high quality fresh coconut in chutneys Pre pandemic a 5 star dosa experience was a deep brown perfectly crispy shell with filling in the center. Mostly hollow and mostly shell. Post pandemic with increase in labor costs for sit down restaurants, the pivot to togo means the experience has to change. Can't have the 3ft mostly hollow cylindrical dosas stay crispy in a container. Nobody buys the hollow dosas in a togo container. The steam renders it soggy and there is little logic in paying 13$ for a soggy mess. Eat the dosa ASAP after ordering. I ate it in the car. The ToGo dosa changed to a cheese/potato masala/red onion/peas/carrot filling where very little of the dosa is an empty shell. Unlike the sit down experience most of the dosa is filled. Raises the cost. Very filling. No appetite for dinner. Other restaurants serve a soggy dosa but not here. This is the equivalent of many dosas in one because of the amount of inside stuffing. Can split between 2 people. Was full after eating 25%. Spring Dosa = Spicy Sauce, potato masala, red onions, cheese, cilarntro, peas, carrot, cabbage, podi. Melted Cheese kept the dosa hot. Ate in car. Best experienced fresh to capture the aroma and texture of hot melted cheese. Like a giant quesadilla for 12.50. They use hIgher quality cheese, not the standard salty low grade cheese pizza parlors use. Mind blowing experience with a dosa crust crispier than a grilled cheese sandwich, the different flavors and textures with the 3 different chutneys and melt in mouth cheese and potato mixture. LIke a cheese stuffed baked potato but 10x better. The red onions bring out the flavor of the masala. They could cost reduce with a cheaper yellow onion. This is closer to a shallot. The peas and carrots didn't have the overcooked frozen veg texture. Don't know how they did this. Bright green and crisp. Tasted like fresh peas. Coconut chutney: superior to madras cafe and ulavarcharu. Nut watered down. Thick. Tempered with small curry leaves, dal, mustard seeds. Can see the fresh small curry leaves. Not iold dried out leaves. Looks like fresh coconut in the chutney. Peanut Chutney: can see the tempered cut bright dried red chili peppers. Not old dark red ones. The flavor changed from a first bite cool sensation to a deepening peanut taste and slight spice you savor the bite. Tremendous. Definitely higher quality than the ulavarcharu peanut chutney. Spinach chutney: never seen this before. Delicious. Slightly spicy. Spring dosa must be 1k+ calories. 2 people meal. Overate but delicious. Reduced appetite for 2 days. Incredible binge experience. Equivalent to a super large quesadilla and more. Have to go back for the other items. Their idly might be better than idly express.

I stopped by Abhiruchi for a takeout Veg Thali (about $20), and it really hit the spot. The order was ready fast, and the food felt like something straight out of a home kitchen, light, flavorful, and not oily. The Thali had papad, roti, rice, rasam, sambar, palak dal, chana sabji, tindora sabji, and a tasty South Indian-style pulao. Tindora was top notch! Everything was fresh and comforting. Portion size was solid too. Definitely coming back!

5 stars for the portion size and value. Whenever I visit the South Bay Area lately S Indian food is my go to. As a vegetarian, it's tasty, spicy, and satisfying. Plus I think Indian food tastes better up in the Bay than LA (don't @ me lol). I'm glad I found Abhiruchi and ordered the thali. So much food for $14.99. It's a no frills take out spot, and I love that. I just want good, authentic food at a reasonable price which isn't easy to come by around these parts.

Whoa! So much rice to go.

The spring rolls and the golden rolls appetizers are top notch--it would not be hard to convince me that the spring rolls contain something addictive because I cannot seem to get enough of them! Coworker's favorite appetizer is the wonton poppers, which are also great! I've tried several things on the menu and while my coworker and I have some favorites (the lemongrass beef must be tried, and the green curry and curry noodle soup are both also fantastic), we haven't had anything so far that we haven't liked. I did bring my husband for a meal on the weekend and he wasn't a fan of the fried buns for the char siu bbq with lotus buns and thought the char siu was too sweet, but he enjoyed the spring rolls so hopefully he'll give it another chance later. Vietnamese iced coffee here is also good, but it's not one of the places that brings the little drip filter out to the table etc. in case you're looking for that (my coworker was hoping for it when we first came). The decor is fairly typical of a place run by the Supreme Master Ching Hai group, and the menu has the same vibe if not the same items (my sandwich-loving husband was dismayed by the lack of banh mi), which is a bit of a change from when I had been here previously almost a decade ago. I think it's a change for the better. The location is clean and the wait staff are friendly to the point of sometimes being suspiciously chipper, but it's actually pretty endearing. They also have a little mini market by the door where a few vegan dry goods and instant coffees can be purchased, although I haven't tried getting anything there yet since we're usually on our way back to work. Merit is part of my regular lunch rotation, so I expect to be back many times! Maybe someday I will have tried everything on the menu, even!

Recommend for groups who need a vegan restaurant, and price and portion size are economical. We started with fresh spring roll, which was crunchy and had a mint in it, which elevated to great and set my expectation for rest of the dishes high. We had Green papaya salad, tom kha thai soup, i was expecting coconut and lemon grass flavor come through on a high note but missing. Veg chow fun without vegan shrimps and rice clay pot were decent.

I am one of those people who thinks that just about every meal needs animal protein or it won't be satisfying. Well, Happy Flower proved me wrong because I came away with a very happy and full stomach and I did not even miss the meat! We ordered 8 different dishes to share family style, and I was especially pleased with the all seasons sampler and vegan fried rolls appetizers, as well as the pad Thai, salted fish fried rice, hainan chicken rice, tomato fish, and happy clay pot entrees. Each dish was quite large such that all 9 of us were able to try generous portions of each dish. And then we got two servings of the mango sticky rice to share and the mango was amazingly sweet! I did not try their boba drinks, but a few of my friends ordered drinks and enjoyed them. Their boba drinks are sized quite large as well. I will say, the meat doesn't necessarily taste like the meat it purports to imitate, but the textures for the fake chicken and fish are pretty spot on! Service was friendly and helpful and they delivered the dishes at a good pace. The inside isn't fancy, but it's clean and well lit and spacious. I wish I had known about this hidden gem sooner, but they had a good clip of takeout orders and families coming in for dinner. Parking is also plentiful and easy in their large attached lot. With this in mind I had high expectations - service, ambiance, decor were all vibe and def. makes me want to go back. Location is smart - parking is fair but being within a modern style hotel def. brings the right amount of traffic and liveliness. There is a cute outdoors area and small garden with a beer trolley and pizza served outdoors (part of Valley Goat, I think but not quite clear lol) Anyways, pricing also was not bad and suited the menu and location fairly - so in the end it really just came down to food (&& prob my issues with saltiness...lol) Let's Dig In: (1) Blueberry pancakes - one of the better items, fluffy small stack pancakes, just a bit too sweet overall. Needed a cream to cool off the sticky sweetness. (2) Potato Crepe - a rip off of one of my fave Viet dishes (Banh Xeo) that simply DID NOT work. What makes Banh xeo so good is the light and airy batter - the potato and cheese shell (aka batter) was overly salty and just too oily + the filling & vinaigrette also leaned salty. (3) Coconut Labneh - this was ok, nothing to rave about overall. (4) Goat Empanadas - this was also sadly just ok, the meat inside had a great flavor but overall the whole thing ate a bit dry. (5) Yucatan Pork Belly & Tomato - this was fair, there was a lot going on with the salty & saucy-ness but the dish overall had lots of flavor and texture. (6) Heirloom Tomato Salad - similar sauce and texture to the above, tasty just a tad bit too much going on overall, esp. for a tomato dish that should've eaten more light & fresh. (6) Spicy handroll dip - loved the nori chips, but just wished the dip went a bit lighter with the chili crisp and sauce, again...too saucy and salty which def. took away from the dish. (7) The Biscuits - this was good, flaky and tasty with a unique butter and chili-like jam. Cocktails: honestly can't remember what we got but overall they tasted similar - too sweet/sour and more like juice (booze was too faint).

At a recent Yelp event, we were given coupons to redeem for a complimentary app or drink, so we finally decided to put it to good use. Amanda was our server and she was attentive without being overbearing. She also brought out a little water bowl for our dog without being asked and just in the nick of time as the pup was quite thirsty. We ordered the beet poke ($16), mushroom bao ($15), and a spicy sausage pizza ($26) to share. We tried the beet poke at the Yelp event, so knew what to expect. We honestly just wanted a lighter, healthier dish to combat the other two. The mushroom bao should actually be plural because we were given a duo. I guess it makes sense to give two portions as it's an app and for $15, it would be a bit wild for just one bao. In my mind, I guess I thought it would be presented as one massive bun? The spicy sausage pizza though, oh my lord. I am NOT a pizza fan by any means, but I actually really enjoyed this pizza. It comes sliced up in 6 pieces and was so incredibly creamy which complemented the spicy notes perfectly. I restrained myself from eating more than one slice, but it's definitely a winner. There's also a 4% surcharge for employee benefits. Again, does this really go to the employees?? Some people say yes, some say it goes straight into the owner's pockets. Idk. Spicy tofu curry (3/5): Portion size is massive but so is the price ($26). The broth was very flavorful, but I was looking forward to the spice and it turned out to not be spicy at all. The ancient grains were unique! However, I felt that there were way too many vegetables+rice and barely any broth - it didn't feel balanced and seemed more like a salad. My friend said the rigatoni pomodoro was average - could have been more flavorful. Cast iron chocolate chip cookie (4/5): Pretty good! However, there weren't really any chocolate chips and I would say the texture was more like a cake rather than a cookie. Otherwise it satisfied my sweet craving! I really appreciate the vegan restaurants in the Bay Area. Service was great and the ambiance feels upscale, but the food was just ok - I was a bit underwhelmed. It is also rather pricey so I don't think I would return

At some point, it stopped being background music and became an uninvited fifth member at our dinner party. Not particularly welcome either! However the service was warm and on-point. Now, the food! N ordered the mixed chowmein, spicy, with lamb, chicken and prawn and it was pretty good. P ordered the goat curry, also spicy but their spicy is tolerable not mind-bending spicy, and OMG, that was something else! I am from Northeast India, and there was something about this curry that felt so familiar and yet unfamiliar. The spices, the depth of flavor, that wonderful homestyle quality. I kept going back for another bite. And another. Poor P probably wondered whether she was going to get to finish her own dinner! I ordered the chicken fried rice and chili chicken. The fried rice was alright. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing particularly exciting either. It needed a little more oomph. The chili chicken, though! Oh my goodness. THAT was good. Spicy, flavorful, saucy, with just the right kick. I love a good chili chicken, and this one absolutely hit the spot and the quantity was large for an appetizer. Ketan had the chicken curry with rice and loved it. I tried some and thought it was okay. Clearly, we weren't all having the same culinary experience at this table. :) And did I mention the portions? HUGE! All four of us ended up taking food home. I love a restaurant where you don't have to choose between eating well and having lunch sorted for the next day. So why five stars when the fried rice was just alright, the chicken curry didn't particularly impress me, and the music next door was testing my patience? Because that goat curry and chili chicken were THAT good. Sometimes two dishes are enough to make an entire meal memorable, and these two absolutely did it for me. I will be back, can't promise to try the momos though because if that goat curry is on the menu, I make no promises !!!

My son, his friend, and his friend's mom headed to San Jose from the Bay Area to see a kids show at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. We were excited to try this all vegan restaurant for lunch. Upon entering, the dining area was mostly empty. We sat far from the other 2 occupied tables and my son (hungry and excited after a long car ride) said a little too loudly "oh, we need some tea," when he saw the server bring it to another table. I hushed him, while the other mom began reviewing the rules of eating out to both kids. We were seated no longer than 90s when a server came over and asked us to leave - stating another patron had said it was us or them. We assumed at the time that they were referring to the kids. I have heard about this restaurant's heavy MAGA values, so I'm now wondering if they thought we were a 2 mom family, since we'd been there less than 2 minutes when this occurred. I asked about the outdoor seating we'd seen on the way in. They said it was dirty, and I said "that's ok." They told us they'd unlock it, and on the way out, I noticed the other, huge, empty dining room on the other side that they could have mentioned seating us in, had they been kind or interested in our business. They pointed but didn't lead us out. In the patio (which seemed clean despite the warning), we found QR codes. No one checked on us, and we got our own water from inside. Our food was brought out to us with paper plates, and the server made sure to point out where the trash can was located for when we left. They did not bring out a pitcher so one of us had to go around the parking lot and through the front door to refill and carry back our small cups of water. We didn't stay long and didn't order the dessert we'd anticipated. In reading the reviews, others have had similar experiences of being shuffled onto the back patio combined with hostile and ineffective service. There are plenty of other vegan options in San Jose. The food was all right but nothing special. We will not be returning. Our kids will not grow up asking to visit Vegetarian House when we visit San Jose.
